  1. Hm, usually don't get the call when you miss your spot by that much (and when it curves around the plate).
  2. Fortunately, the first two games are Niese and Colon, and we miss Harvey.
  3. Verducci and Rosenthal could provide some quality analysis if given the chance, but Harold hasn't stopped talking since the game started.
  4. A Bryant dong would make me feel a little better about things.
  5. Part of me thinks it'd be better for the Cubs to play the WC game on the road because I worry how Wrigley fans would react when the first thing goes wrong after the failures of 2007/2008 (2003 could be included too, I guess). For me, the thing I don't want is the Pirates locking up a spot early enough so they can have Cole start the WC game. But we're a long ways off, and I shouldn't be so picky if we get there.
  6. Wood's been really good as a reliever.
  7. Roach is who Schlitter aspires to be.
  8. It is hard to get in a rundown on a force play. If he stops and the second baseman decides to throw to 2nd, Russell likely beats it out. If he stops and the second baseman throws to first before getting Roach, it turns into a tag play and the run scores.
  9. Damn, if Roach would've gotten into a rundown there, another run would've scored. Oh well, nice hit.
  10. I think I'd abuse the IBB if I were a manager, but no way I'd pitch to Baxter here.
  11. And the thought of drafting Almora over Wacha.
  12. 4 ground balls, 3 find holes. Keep throwing groundballs, they'll find a defender eventually.
  13. Wong trying to make up for Holliday being out of the lineup and doing his part to tear Starlin's ACL.
  14. I'm slightly worried about Rizzo's right elbow. He looked uncomfortable on that last swing.
  15. Yeah, if he has his sinker working, I could see him having a good spot start tonight. There might be zero strikeouts, but he can survive one start. And damn, was hoping Len would do PBP tonight.
  16. Eh, that runner was on first base, it was arguably the slowest player on the team, and there were two outs. It would've taken at least two hits (off Siegrest no less) for Ross to score. With the lead, I think run prevention remains the most important factor, and to me, an Arrieta who didn't throw 120+ pitches his previous outing takes that AB and is the best option for the 8th inning.
  17. Happ had a good game - 2/3, BB. With Dewees signed, I'd assume Happ will go to South Bend any day now.
  18. This is one one of the dumbest narratives you guys have come up with this season, and that's saying something. The offense deserves a lot of blame, sure, but it's a lot easier for a manager to not send a pitcher out there for 120+ pitches in a blowout than it is to get a hit with RISP. If Maddon didn't do that on Sunday, Arrieta definitely pitches the 8th and things may have gone differently. Not a guaranteed win, but it could've been different.
  19. Maddon did fine tonight - the pinch hitters did well, and I thought the bullpen was managed properly. It was his decision last Sunday to let Arrieta finish that may have cost us this game.
  20. Knowing that we'd have to deal with this for a 5 game series if we grab a WC spot and manage to win that game kind of takes the fun out of it.
  21. lol, I can't believe that ball didn't bounce all the way into the outfield
