  1. Yeah, it'll probably be a centerfold of Brandon Phillips instead
  2. Reinsdorf would do it just for the parking income
  3. do pom ratings really mean anything this early in the season? I don't know how they're calculated. They have more value this season than in seasons past as he did a preseason projection for all teams that is being calculated in. In years past you'd get really screwy results after 3-4 games due to small sample sizes and how heavily strength of opponent is factored in. His blog yesterday say the preseason ratings count for roughly 5 games worth of data, and will be removed altogether sometime in January (22nd I wanna say? It coincides with some point in the season where they have little effect on the stats anyway) It's experimental, but it's at least a better guage than the screwy results he'd put out the first few weeks of seasons past.
  4. I'm serious when I say I think it means we don't have money to spend on a 1st baseman because we're focusing on the bullpen and an innings eater.
  5. I'm not even that big of a Longoria fan, but off that picture, downgrade.
  6. I have a hard time seeing us lose to Maryland. I'll be very disappointed with anything less than 1-1, and mildly disappointed if we come out with just a win vs. Maryland
  7. Miller Park is a [expletive] hole. Worst park I've ever been to.
  8. If it's Tom Hamilton calling the game, I'm just not going to bother watching.
  9. I always assumed they fight against the ham. Sounds like a better fit for Sam Fuld.
  10. I'm still in awe that starting pitching is the focus of the offseason.
  11. Re: Purdue I think your 3 games next week will show you what kind of team you have. You should win them all by double digits, but they'll at least your opponents will belong on the court with you. Howard and Alcorn St combined for 9 wins total in the 2 worst conferences in the country. Purdue's opening 2 shellackings moved them up to 8 in Pomeroy rankings, giving the Big Ten teams #2, 6, 8, 9, and 11. Conference season is going to be sick. And with the bottom of the Big Ten not being very good, any top team interested in winning the conference is going to have to sweep them all or else they'll really set themselves back.
  12. Nobody will go to Cubs games in Hoffman Estates or Naperville.
  13. I watched their game last night (For some reason the bar was showing FSN Ohio on one of the TVs by me), and I thought they looked terrible. I guess the box score sort of gave that away though.
  14. We need another Bucktown like we need another Mt Greenwood
  15. A park in the suburbs is a terrible idea.
  16. What? That wasn't trollbait, the Bulls don't have the frontcourt defense to contend with Boston's frontcourt. If Noah's gonna be chasing Garnett around the court then Boozer, then that leaves nobody in the paint on Perkins/Shaq/Davis. If Boozer's gonna guard Garnett, then he'll drop 30 a game on him. Miami may be a better team overall, but they're definitely a better matchup for the Bulls
  17. If you feel we can't compete in the next few years, why would you spend all that money on Upton just for the right to re-sign him to a 20M/Y deal when you can compete?
  18. Illinois missed the tourney with a 19-14 record with wins @ Clemson, vs. Vanderbilt, vs. MSU, @ Wisconsin, and vs. Wisconsin (Neutral)
  19. If Boston's healthy, I have no idea who's going to stop them in the paint. Noah can only do so much.
  20. You guys did win by 28. You sound like an Illinois fan.
  21. Indiana isn't making the tournament by beating nothing but bad teams.
  22. GEOVANY SOTO WAS A CATCHER WITH AN OPS APPROACHING 900 LAST YEAR
  23. I too am sick of Aramis Ramirez swinging out of his shoes and striking out 200 times a year
