  1. Not sure. A month or two ago, I read that the Cubs wanted to break ground at the end of this season and do it in phases over the course of 3-4 offseasons. If they do it in one year, it'd be interesting if they could get that all figured out by next season. I'd be shocked if they played an entire season away from Wrigley, they'd get fucked on revenue.
  2. Oh, we'll never sign anyone to a deal longer than 5 years? At least we'll have a highly rated farm system I guess. Nah, just meant it's hard to see anyone else being as much of a douche about things as Dempster was. I don't know if this type of thing is as uncommon as you think. This just happened to leak. Just last year we had guys blocking trades left and right.
  3. Typical Cubs, we'll probably never score again the rest of the series.
  4. Exactly my point. Coletti came out of this trade deadline with 4 big additions to his team without giving up his top prospects. Explain to me how this makes him an idiot or a bad GM. Yaeh Randy Choate and Brandon League are [expletive] big-time! ETA: And Ramirez was a salary dump and he STILL gave up Eovaldi.
  5. He also traded James McDonald+ for Dotel, and Josh Bell+ For George Sherrill(Bell turned into nothing, but he was a top prospect 2 months later, and he got a terrible return for him because he's dumb)
  6. Theo might be a very smart guy, but it bothers me that posters refer to most other GMs as idiots and somehow any success that they have had has been luck. Most of these guys have been in and around baseball all of their lives. I'm sure most owners wouldn't leave an "idiot" in the GM post for many years. All of the sabermetric analysis that Beane and Theo initiated has been implemented by most teams. Bill Bavasi was legally a chimp.

  8. Lew Ford hadn't played in the bigs since 2007 until this year.
  9. I don't believe so, here in KC many weren't happy he was their choice at number one the next year Fwiw. You are correct with this assessment. Many of the Royals fans think that he's a sissy. It's like, when he has nobody on base, he's pretty good. But when he gets a runner on base, well, his mental mind just changes from a world beater to a scared (expletive) guy who's afraid to make a mistake. He's definitely not a #1 starter. More like a back end rotation guy, but that's just my opinion. Hochevar's 2012 numbers against: Bases Empty: .278/.347/.460 Runners on: .296/.352/.432 RISP: .298/.351/.438 Though his career numbers tell a different story.
  10. I think it's more likely the Cubs finish with more than 70 wins this year than less next year.
  11. The Cubs stopped being awful the day Anthony Rizzo was called up.
  12. Hendry would have dealt him two weeks ago for half a sandwich and a "get out of jail free" card. I'm not sure the commissioner would have signed off on that.
  13. Deplorable? It WAS Mark Grace
  14. YES, IT IS QUITE LIKELY THAT THEY DO NOT SCORE A RUN OVER THE LAST 6 INNINGS
  15. He's 18 in the MIDW and way more likely to stick at SS. And Baez is out-OPSing him by 250 points.
  16. that would be awful Yeah, I like the taste of food.
  17. Beach Volleyball??
  18. lol that guy is terrible Seriously, he looks like he's never swam before.
  19. But it doesn't. They're averaging ~22,000 per game this year.
  20. Went to an Illini Bash at Joe's last night, Tim Beckman and Mike Thomas were both in attendance. Beckman was there shaking hands at the entrance, and both were gracious in conversations I had with each. Stupid little things like getting everyone's name that you didn't see from the former regime. These guys really seem to get it. Beckman had the line of the night when asked about Northwestern with a "Who?" Guenther's doctrine of shunning Chicago is finally over. I wasn't thrilled with Beckman, but he really sounded great in his 10 minutes up there. My Illini hating friend summed him up calling him the coachiest guy he's ever heard, and that works for 17 year olds. Getting mildly excited.

  22. Sulley, you're way off. Derek Bell decided he wasn't going to play because they were benching him and the Pirates had to pay off his entire contract. If Dempster was put in the pen, there'd be a grievance and the Cubs would lose.
