  1. Dempster did us a favor after all! Whatever you do, don't torture yourself like I did and notice that if we were able to get Delgado, the package of players sent for Upton around him were pretty easily duplicated... We couldn't afford Upton anyway
  2. Was someone else warmed up when Russell came in? If the SP was done and Russell was the only warm arm bc there was a guy on and a LH and Beltran due up, it makes it pretty defensible to me. Villanueva just struck out a lefty (albeit a crappy one) on the previous pitch and was only at 101 pitches.
  3. The point is more about intentionally sending a RH reliever to face Carpenter/Beltran in a 1 run game than having Russell avoid RH hitters. The one run thing being of notable importance, as "wasting" Russell in a no on/2 out situation against a same handed hitter still led to the tying run. Are we that worried about Matt Carpenter that we have to play platoon disadvantage with him?
  4. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/breaking/chi-wrigley-night-games-20130508,0,1878827.story wow, 46 night games and 35 day games next year. Will be interesting to see how they distribute those night games. I'm assuming this means more Saturday night games. Season ticket bill rising... Yeah, I have a feeling I'll be downgrading my current ones for the time being. I was the opposite figuring this would boost me up to 65-70 games/year, I might as well lock in all playoff games and get the full 81.
  5. I could see your point if there was actually anybody on or if Russell wasn't cromulent vs. righties last year and this
  6. Probably drew names out of a hat. Bottom 3 RPI teams Yeah.

  8. Illinois has a lot of games away from Illinois. @ UNLV @ GA Tech Oregon in Portland Mizzou in STL Auburn in Birmingham
  9. I mean that was pretty good Ryan, but try making an out next time before advancing the runner.
  10. Yep. They didn't even put him in as a pinch hitter last night. He's being treated for cuts and scrapes sustained while attacking a tree which he thought resembled Luis Valbuena. Maybe he was just thirsty.

  12. Moreland you dope. ETA: Yeah, excellent ABs always end with a ground out to 1B
  13. B1G/ACC Challenge Set Tue, Dec 3 Indiana at Syracuse Michigan at Duke Notre Dame at Iowa Florida State at Minnesota Penn State at Pittsburgh Illinois at Georgia Tech Wed, Dec 4 North Carolina at Michigan State Maryland at Ohio State Miami at Nebraska Wisconsin at Virginia Boston College at Purdue Northwestern at NC State I've got 6-6.
  14. I'm inclined to agree with you but what grievance could he file? He's no longer injured. I could easily imagine the Player's Association having a problem with them releasing him immediately after he took the 72 hours he was technically allowed by the CBA. His $2M is guaranteed whether he plays or not. Releasing him could end up netting him more money if he signs elsewhere. His salary would be deducted from the 2M the Cubs owe him.
  15. He is quite likely the greatest of all time.
  16. It's not so much that you never want to sign FAs as much as not wanting to sign them until you retire.
  17. They'd probably triple team Robinson.
  18. I think I wanted Fielder instead.
  19. I'm not aware of them growing in trees in any league
  20. It's a song they sing after winning games, so I'm not sure why people hate it so much. It's a really cheesy song, so I guess it's that. It's just always been there for me; 1984 was the first year I was a fan and it was a semi-big deal then, plus my parents bought me the damn thing and being a little kid I played it until everyone's ears bled. It's burned into my brain whether I like it or not. It was a thing in 1984?! I don't think that's right It was written in '84 and used most of that season.
  21. Free agent after 2015 season.
  22. Javy's doing his best to help as well
  23. It's a song they sing after winning games, so I'm not sure why people hate it so much. Because people get angry that everyone's not raging about the bad team even after they win.
  24. I was just making an observation
