  1. What's Buxton's pie-in-the-sky projection? Kenny Lofton?
  2. No, it isn't projecting a HOF bat for Javy. It's saying if he hits his insane ceiling he'll have a HOF bat. You know what I meant. Point is, I can't see taking any minor leaguer and saying, "if he hits his ceiling, he's a Hall of Famer". That's what you're saying by "Sheffield is too low". Well that's just silly. In any given year there are minor leaguers whose ceiling is that of a hall of famer. Otherwise nobody would ever be a hall of famer.
  3. No, it isn't projecting a HOF bat for Javy. It's saying if he hits his insane ceiling he'll have a HOF bat.
  4. At the risk of making goony angry: Greg Maddux Frank Thomas Jeff Bagwell Mike Piazza Barry Bonds Tim Raines Roger Clemens Craig Biggio Curt Schilling Alan Trammell There are probably 16 or 17 guys I'd vote for. Of the 17 returning players, only Lee Smith, Jack Morris, and Don Mattingly seem like obvious noes. Of course Morris finished 2nd last year and will probably inexplicably go in with: -the 22nd best bWAR among eligibles -8th best ERA+ (Worse than Kenny Roger and MATT MORRIS) -6th in Ks And this is just compared to the guys on the ballot now. All time he sits: -Tied for 395th in bWAR (With Bartolo Colon and Steve Finley) -Tied for 484th in ERA+ (with Denny Neagle, Tomo Ohka, and Dustin Hermanson) But oh, his case is based on more than just stats, you had to be there and see how he was different, you knew when you watched him he was a hall of famer. -Never finished higher than 13th in MVP voting (784th all time in MVP shares) -Never finished higher than 3rd in Cy Young Voting (Only received votes in 7 seasons, 76th all time in Cy Young shares) -5 all star games -Top 10 in ERA 5 times (never better than 5th)
  5. Holy [expletive] Scherzer
  6. From the article Maddux obviously topped everyone with 98.5% -- brilliant reader Av wrote in with a reason why someone might not vote for Maddux that actually makes some sense. He wondered if someone might not vote for Maddux because the limit is 10, and maybe the BBAWAA member has 12 or 13 or more people he believes deserves the vote. The BBWAA person might pass on Maddux knowing full well that he will get elected anyway and use that vote for Tim Raines or Edgar Martinez or someone else who might be worthy. I don’t go along with it entirely -- I think it kind of cuts against the spirit of the Hall of Fame vote -- but I can see the argument.
  7. I'd almost expect Sweeney to outproduce Nate when considering defense. Bogusevic, I don't expect much of anything from him. He's still free (with at least one option? - though they may need his permission) so whatever, but I don't see anything in his record that shows we should expect much.
  8. am I being a huge homer when I think that the "pie-in-the-sky" projection should be better than Sheffield?
  9. I want Acta as bench coach
  10. picking CHI over a winless NYG team on a short week when half of Bears Dline is dead scares me. Gaines Adams was like 3 years ago, enough excuses
  11. I'm in the tank for Harbaugh, I'd definitely take them if I was you. I don't like that Jets game. They're 3-2, but I just don't trust them, nor do I think Pittsburgh could possibly be as bad as they've shown. Though I am slow to adapt to previously good teams getting bad in a hurry which seems to happen a lot in the NFL. How insane is that JAX/DEN spread going to be?
  12. I know Houston looked like garbage, but I think I'm down to them over STL, KC over OAK, or CHI over NYG
  13. $96,840 in mine. Started with 3,228 guys. Down to 359 after tonight. I really hope this Pick 2 stuff was one week only because I've already used IND, NE, SEA, DEN, GB, & SF. My quick look had me thinking Bears, but I hate picking against winless teams for some reason
  14. Some people are just keener on these things than others.
  15. COME CELEBRATE WITH ME SNOOD!! 1,019 out of 1,547 entries in my pool had Atlanta as one of their teams.
  16. The Falcons do not deserve to win this game Please Jets, help me out here.
  17. Fully expecting a complete game 4-hitter from Wainwright on Wednesday. Why? He's really good and I don't trust the pirates offense? Well, Cole's pitching for the Pirates, and he's pretty good too
  18. Same. I'd never heard of the A's guy who walked off either.
  19. Fully expecting a complete game 4-hitter from Wainwright on Wednesday. Why?
  20. Now? You wanted something else before? I wouldn't have minded seeing him complete the no hitter. There is still a game 5 for the Pirates to win. wtf is wrong with you?
  21. Why do you think it is a matter of fans who want to sit on their hands? I was told to sit down by a group of pessimistic fans when I stood to cheer a late Fukudome HR. And the stadium barely made a peep. If you're going to cry every time something bad happens, you're better off not attending. There's a significant subset of Cubs fans who live to be miserable. They're awful people
  22. And doesn't Joe Johnson cost like 80 bajillion dollars?
  23. He went by Rich when he was in the majors. I don't know why I remember him
