  1. Somebody tell Jed/Theo the Cubs only get 1 1st round pick (not 2) no matter how bad the record What's crazy is there is actually a team with a worse record than them. One we still couldn't win a series from
  2. A team can rebuild without sucking this badly for 3 years in a row. As far as improvement next year, yeah I mean every season we think next year has to be better. At this rate, it isn't getting there. And given the ongoing delays with the renovations at Wrigley I think that timeline for attempting to be competitive is just being pushed back further and further. Well technically at this rate next year probably will be better
  3. It made sense to me that they didn't want to spend big on anyone except Tanaka this past offseason, but with the top prospects on track to begin arriving at the end of this year and all the money they *should* have, they better go big this offseason. I've been fine with the "suck hard until we're ready" strategy, because I was much more annoyed with the old, expensive crappy 2009-2011 teams than the teams the past couple years. But if this offseason resembles last offseason, that's just a "suck hard and hope for a miracle" strategy. I'm still confused why people are ok with us passing on Ellsbury. And the 09 cubs were tied for first on august 5th
  4. Don't get your hopes up. One would think they'd try to improve this year. I was optimistic that they'd be better this but I'm not any longer. I know this isn't right considering the Cubs have been popular forever and haven't won in a century, but I start to wonder if another horrid year, coupled with another horrid two months next year, would start to have a huge impact on the fan base coming out to games. Like, a very noticeable one. Not just the expected decrease. I don't even know what I'm talking about. I hate the Brewers. I hate that the Cubs are so bad. I hate that the Brewers get to beat up on the Cubs 19 times a year and we just have to sit back and watch it happen. What do you consider a "noticeable" decline? This year we will finish off our dropoff of 1 million plus fans since 08(and possiby 1M since 09)
  5. Why? Because Mike Olt was, at one time a short while ago, a top prospect. And despite having struggles to make contact and not playing every day, he still leads the team in homers. So, I'd ask you: Why not? Then why aren't you campaigning for Vitters and Brett Jackson to be in here over Nate and Bonifacio?
  6. Valbuena is a FA After 2016, and if that's truly the new target for thinking about contending he doesn't seem to fit.
  7. It's not just a run of the mill company owner. He's a member of a cartel. When his actions reflect poorly on that cartel and affect the other members' business they have the right to act upon it.
  8. He's a first baseman? Exactly. If the NL had the DH I'm sure there'd be some talk of going after him, but we got Rizzo. And I personally think Rizzo > Abreu. If the NL had the DH and the Cubs went after him, I'm sure all the media reports would say the Cubs were prepared to out spend all teams but end up getting out spent by the Sox by $20 million. You can't blame us for missing out on Abreu, the contract he got was insane. Besides which er of the platoons is off can slide over to DH and are projected to put up just 1 less WAR (which I personally think they'll do better than) than Abreu.
  9. I didn't find any mention of him getting hurt, so hopefully it's so he can pitch in Cincinnati on Wednesday. Hopefully it's because he's been traded
  10. http://m.sportsbusinessdaily.com/~/media/0C88F61017A5488EB5E99063B70DE35F.ashx?w=251
  11. I'd have a lot more respect for the Cubs if Julian Green said they didn't invite him because he was afraid he'd eat his soul
  12. Ditka didn't need steroids
  13. I think his slash line will reach normal Baez levels within the next couple months. I'm not worried Triple-A pitchers will continue to have their way with him after he dominated Double-A at age 20. However, these extreme struggles beginning with each level could make them hesitant to challenge him and call him up midseason like we all hoped. If he doesn't change, his first go-around in the bigs will be scary bad. Maybe I'm overreacting to these first few weeks, but I'm getting to the point where I could see them keeping him in Iowa until May 2015 with Bryant. That saddens me because Baez was the most exciting part of 2014 for me. They could just wait until September when he could still get ~100 PAs and no one would be watching so it wouldn't really matter if he sucked. If Baez isn't up in August they're not going to waste sweet sweet team control on him by calling him up in September
  14. I'm going to enjoy Kentucky not winning the tourney so much
  15. Those teams just don't realize how dumb they are for acquiring talent. Sure they may wind up in he playoffs, but if they don't do it the right way does it even count?
  16. http://voices.suntimes.com/sports/inside-the-cubs/cubs-top-pitching-prospect-c-j-edwards-to-miss-more-than-a-month-with-shoulder-injury/#.U1rR_zd5mc0 given his stature does this sort of track him into a bullpen arm in the bigsor is this just one of those things with nothing to read into for the future. I dont see why this would effect anything in the longterm. Plenty of guys come back from TJS and other surgeries that put them out for a year and end up starters. Missing a month of shoulder fatigue shouldnt put a good prospect in the bullpen. Considering a large portion of "experts" had him moving to the bullpen specifically because he was likely to suffer from fatigue, I cannot see how you can dismiss it and treat him just like any other pitching prospect. And it leaves him as unlikely to eclipse his previous innings high of ~118
  17. My mistake, that was Tsuyoshi Wada's foot I was looking at.
  18. Now watch this drive!
  19. And even if he spoke perfect English, who cares? He answered every question.
  20. michigan apparently appealed and were denied even though the suspension is being changed to half a season next year. I guess we should be impressed that NCAA managed to respond to the appeal prior to the draft declaration deadline.
  21. So Mitch McGary is going pro because the NCAA suspended him for a year for a positive marijuana test according to an Illinois beat reporter
