  1. Castillo had a higher WAR the last 2 seasons and having Wieters in 2012 would have cost us Kris Bryant
  2. What the pre-determined point is doesn't matter!!!
  3. I dunno, I can't bring myself to care that Rizzo didn't win Silver Slugger, but thought it was really cool when Darwin Barney won the gold glove. Maybe I realized it was the last good thing that would ever happen to Darwin?
  4. Depends on your definition of a game
  5. I think Lake is perfect for the Brooks Kieschnick type of role at this point. Yes, whatever it is Kieschnick is doing now, I'm sure Lake would be great at it.
  6. lol Ibanez hasn't even retired yet
  7. I'm pretty sure it is.
  8. Not a whole lot really worth disliking either. He said essentially nothing. Well, aside from the fact that him saying the increased value of the franchise doesn't mean much when he's about to sell 20% of the team and profit from that increase directly. And that that money will go directly towards the stadium reno, which I expected, but still disappointing to have it confirmed. ETA: And "But there are 29 other teams, so you have to be rational, while being aggressive." Well, it means that the renos will almost be paid in a lump sum and we at least don't have to worry about hearing about paying those off for years, which I feel like a lot of us feared. Even I didn't think they'd keep our payroll low to pay for reno
  9. I'm just glad Kyle's found a new thing for today.
  10. Ahhhh, so Mike Trout is valuable.

  12. Brett recapped the interview. http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/11/06/tom-ricketts-speaks-maddon-spending-tv-deal-stake-sale-rooftops-epstein-extension/ Not a whole lot I'm liking from it.
  13. The best part about Tom Ricketts radio interviews is none of this http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-insider/files/2011/10/tom-ricketts-firing-hendry.jpeg
  14. Jeff Sullivan wrote a really stupid article for fangraphs. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/let-us-address-the-angels-super-hypothetical/
  15. Why would we have to give up less by getting Brown? If the Phillies want to get rid of Brown they'll non-tender him.
  16. Nah let's just add that to John Lannan or Kyle Kendrick
  17. Also Schwarber hasn't hit AA yet and may not be a catcher.
  18. I said I hadn't made up my mind ya spaz. More than anything I'm not really sure what Liriano's contract will look like, at least compared to other FA. There's also some trade possibilities that I might prefer to Liriano. But why would losing out on it give you pause? Because it matters, and because receiving a QO indicates that my expectation for what Liriano would get may be too conservative, to the point where he's no longer my #1 choice for the 2nd SP added. Well I guess that's where we differ. I don't think it matters. Additionally, Liriano being the 5th-6th most desirable pitcher having that millstone makes me think he'll get less than I expected (something like 3/39)
  19. And I think that's really dumb. You can think that, and I'm not saying I agree with it. But they have repeatedly said "we don't have to get all out starting pitching in one offseason" or something similar. I don't agree with holding back to wait for a particular player who may or may not be available, but unless there is a wave of extensions, next offseason's FA SP pool is going to be really deep. I just think Price is going to be the guy. No I get where you're coming from, I've been fearful of "well hopefully we compete this year, but really we're all in for 2016" ever since the "next 18 months" talk started up.
  20. If you take straight up WAR for WAR(which I pretty much despise[HEY keeping Kris Bryant down for half the season will only cost you 1 win when you figure in whos ABs he's taking, so what's the big deal????]) wouldn't we miss the playoffs in '07? And do the last 3 years really matter since we weren't trying? And if we filled Drew's spot with somebody more valuable, might that have cost us Kris Bryant?
  21. love it! Tim who are we trading to get Puig in your dream senario? He said Castro. I feel like that's a little light for Friedman.
  22. And if Masterson doesn't get fixed, you've thrown away a season trying to fix a 3/4 guy for what reason exactly?
