  1. Becuase teams with gobs of available money usually have several clear openings to fill. Assuming we're riding it out with our position prospects, we do not.
  2. I said I hadn't made up my mind ya spaz. More than anything I'm not really sure what Liriano's contract will look like, at least compared to other FA. There's also some trade possibilities that I might prefer to Liriano. But why would losing out on it give you pause?
  3. You shut your lying mouth. Personally, my dream offseason involves Maeda + Liriano on the SP front, not sure if Liriano getting a QO has changed my mind on the latter. Who gives a [expletive] about QOs? I really wanted Liriano, but then I learned we'll have to give up our 25th ranked prospect and probably sign him to a cheaper contract, so passssssssss
  4. You and a lot of other people who don't care about winning in 2015 for some reason.
  5. There are like 20 of those a day on there. But they're commenters on a blog. Arguello is a real live person who people actually cite in conversations.
  6. It was? I seem to recall loving him at that price.
  7. Well the Angels should finally be done paying Vernon Wells now right?
  8. Unless there are deferred payments, they should be done. 8 year contract ended with the final out of the 2014 season. I'm a little surprised that wasn't more celebrated. Why? Presumably, because he thinks most Cubs fans are really dumb. I'm actually pretty surprised Kaplan didn't have a countdown on his Twitter or something.
  9. Nah. He just spent years at the one place that's actually worse. And Wrigley is in the process of getting a lot better, so he won't have to suffer with many of its shortcomings for long. That presser was brilliant. That Maddon is intelligent, articulate and seemingly insightful is a welcome departure from recent managers. Not hearing a bunch of tired, predictable baseball tropes was really refreshing. He was capable of walking too.
  10. Yeah, I bet he cries a lot
  11. Where's wexy when you need him
  12. Wood has to be gone, right? It seems odd that they would sacrifice the ability to trade Wada over a million dollars. Perhaps I'm being dense, but how did they sacrifice their ability to trade Wada? Maybe they still can, his is a somewhat unique case so if he technically never reached free agency and it's actually a 1 year extension they may still have the right. Otherwise since he wasn't under contract or team control yet, one could also infer that he signed as a free agent, and can't be traded til midseason. The other thing that makes this a bit better is that Arizona Phil says that Wada still has 2 options left. If they're able to keep them at Iowa if they like, that's a lot more palatable as a depth move since Turner and Doubront don't have options. It could also be an indicator that they're going to spend a good deal of cash this year if they're committing 4 million to a guy not guaranteed an MLB roster spot. Wada has to approve of being sent down though.
  13. Wood has to be gone, right? It seems odd that they would sacrifice the ability to trade Wada over a million dollars. I'd have to think so regarding Wood. I'm just surprised because I figured they'd hold out the 5th spot for our heap of AAAA guys. Adding Wada to that mix seems excessive, and giving 2 spots to that group would be disappointing. ETA: I'd previously had Wood/Jaxon as insurance in case they didn't land a 2nd starter, I mean Wada could (hopefully)fill that role, but those guys were already on the roster.
  14. Molitor is going to be the new manager and Bosio played 7 seasons with him. I doubt he'll sacrifice what he's worked hard to accomplish in Chicago just before they get championship caliber good for the sake of getting the band back together at a dumpster fire Why is Minnesota a dumpster fire? I see three guys on the current roster that I see and go "Those guys are keepers": Mauer, Dozier, Hughes. Plouffe gets an honorable mention. The rest is stopgaps and dart throwing hoping something sticks. They got nice results out of Danny Santana but who the hell is Danny Santana again? And their pitching is embarrassingly bad. When you see that chart that was posted in the musings thread that showed how many 97mph pitches were thrown by each organization and you see Minnesota at the bottom with 1 (one entire pitch all season that was 97mph... and even then someone looked up pitch FX and saw it was actually a 96.6 mph pitch), it's not as surprising after you look at their pitching roster. You see that and then all of a sudden you go "Oh, that's why". It's pretty bad. Buxton, Sano, and Meyer are great pieces to build around, and I'm sure they plan on doing that, but because of the injuries Buxton and Sano probably won't reach the majors permanently until 2016 at the earliest, and even then they'll be extremely young and given the history of young prospects reaching the majors early they might not reach a level of sustained success for another couple of years. As odd as it is to say this, the Cubs represent the better path to sustained World Series contention than not just the Twins, but probably any other team in baseball. They are built for the success and the party is just now about to start. He'd be jumping off the balcony of the penthouse suite in hopes of hitting the awning on his way down to the lobby entrance just so he can make his way back up. And then on his way back he's gonna have to take the stairs cause the elevator is "Out of Order", but that's just the sign Theo & Co. put on there because everyone else is worthless and weak and doesn't deserve such luxuries. And when Bosio sees them get on the elevator and then look at the stairwell he has to climb with Molitor he's gonna be like "That sure is a lot of stairs" and Molitor will be like "Shut up fat ass you need to lose weight anyways" and Bosio will be like "Well that's not very nice, friend" and Molitor will be like "I'm not your friend I'm your boss, now mush!" and now I have no idea what I'm talking about anymore Their pitching, now that's a dumpster fire, but their entire starting lineup posted wRC+s above 100. That includes a 25 yr old SS, and 23 yr old CF, RF, and DH. Sano ended 2013 in AA. I don't see why you'd expect him to not be up until 2016. Can we not call the Cubs the balcony of a penthouse on the backs of a highly rated farm system while calling another team whose future success is based on a highly rated farm system a dumpster fire?
  15. We should pay another guy 100,000 to teach Baez to not strike out.

  17. I wouldn't be worried unless Sveum goes to Minnesota.
