  1. I remember that sign from that Astros game vividly.
  2. Can you not slide on your quad?? Come on.
  3. Foul out/K that has to be a foul out, it never touched the ground.
  4. That is cool, but would be a bit of a pain here, cause we'd have one TV on the wall to split among too many fanbases. The Sox fans seem to have conceded their right to their game when a Cubs game is on, possibly cause they'd rather cheer against the Cubs anyways.
  5. Unless there's been a huge shift since I left(Spring '06), I'm kinda doubting that. I don't doubt that many people jumped ship in '06, but those same people I'm sure are jumping back. I'd peg it at about 50-30-20 Cubs/Cards/Sox
  6. It's huge, but I'm really down to a point now where every game is the biggest game of the year. Last night was by far the most nervous I've been watching a game all season, and I know it's only going to get worse. x2 I think part of it, a large part of it, has to do with being here in St. Louis....every time they win a game now I hear how the "spunky" "scrappy" "heart of a champion" do gooders are just ready to take the division...it drives me nuts...and with them taking an early lead last night it was just...well...as someone said...ulcer city. Thank God I don't like in St. Louis, I just work in an office with 3-4 of them. I work in downtown Chicago and my office is 50% Tigers fans, 25% Cubs fans, 15% Cardinals fans, 5% Brewers fans, 5% other (Reds, Pirates, Mariners). Note: not one White Sox fan among the office. How do you wind up with a breakdown like that in downtown Chicago? I'd say about 60-30-10 Sox/Cubs/others up in my office, though all the 60 can do now is root against the Cubs rather than being obnoxious about their own team as they were earlier in the year.
  7. I've never even really understood how someone could just sit in front of a computer randomly typing comments for 3 straight hours while watching the game. Many people do it for a better description if the game isn't on TV for them. Others do it so they're essentially watching the game with other people. With fans from across the country(and city), some people don't have the option of knowing anyone that wants to go out and watch a Cubs game. Some of us wouldn't want to hear our idiot friends talk baseball even if they wanted to.
  8. It's hard hitting analysis like that that shows why ESPN is #1. But it's true though. Cardinals have always been known as overachievers and winners. They are like the National League's version of the Yankees. The Cubs, meanwhile, the word underachiever defines them. They have always been losers. I don't know why fans get so bent out of shape for it. Of course, they're not going to respect the Cubs. What have the Cubs done the past 100 years that warrents respect? And I don't mind the media attention to the other teams, it makes it all the more better if the Cubs win it all this year. Read up on your baseball history. And if you're asking me what the Cubs being the dominant NL team for the first 50 years has to do with anything, I might ask you the same question regarding the Cardinals of the last 50 years.
  9. It's hard hitting analysis like that that shows why ESPN is #1.
  10. Isn't Brennamen in Cincy now grinding his ax against Adam Dunn with dad?
  11. Oswalt vs. Wells tonight. There's distance to be made.
  12. For the record I'm not trying to instill any sort of censorship in the game threads. I'm a game thread whore, and before flashchats for the games died out after a fun 3 weeks I was a whore for those too. But yesterday was just absurd. Everyone was falling all over each other to be the first one to call the game over and say how pathetic the team was. It was the 3rd flippin inning!! I'm far from a pollyanna, but I just don't see the point in predicting doom and gloom for every single player for every single pitch. The only thing worse than an "everything is great, and if you don't think so then you're not really supporting the team" Cub fan is an "everything sucks, and if you don't join in on saying that your favorite team and everything about it sucks then you're just a stupid wannabe and haven't been through the wars of Cubdom that I have." Cub fan.
  13. I mentioned this earlier in the thread, Jacque's quick n dirty OPS+ is 86(baseballreference hasn't updated yet, I figured out his OPS and it's the same as Barrett who has an 86 with the Cubs. I think Jacque finishes around 92, which as I said is respectable for a CF.
  14. Wow...one day of rest between games, that's pretty tough. Syracuse is playing your old coach today...Ty on Saturday. He's already worried about the wind in the Dome and how it'll effect the game. I kid you not. Death, taxes, and Tyrone Willingham being a stupid football coach. The only three things we can count on in this world. I'd like to add irrational expectations from Mizzou football fans.
  15. Not singling out you, cause somebody else posted it first and it's been repeated, but there's really no need to use ERA+ when comparing players on the same team.
  16. Maybe you missed it or didn't hear it, but his rendition went like this: Let me root, root, root for the Brewers That should explain it. And he followed it with "and you all root for the cubs, or something along those lines. I thought it was cool. I even thought it was cool when Jack Buck stopped mid-song "root root for the" ripped off his Cubs hat, threw it away and put on a Cards hat and said the Cardinals! I didn't hear it on the broadcast Rob, but they Uecker did make mention during the bottom half about the fans re-singing it after he was done.
  17. The Jacque-O-Meter is up to 724 good for an 86 OPS+ Since being re-inserted in the everyday lineup he is OPSing 851. That's not to excuse his early season play as he played just about everyday then and was putting up a 614. And for the mostly useless stat, Jacque is OPS+ing 98 compared to OPSes of all CFs in the majors. Jacque's 1st half BABIP was 265, his 2nd half BABIP is 361. His career BABIP is 317. So shocking to everyone I'm sure, he's not as good as he's been in the 2nd half, and not as terrible as he was in the 1st. I'd guess Jacque finishes up the season as a decent player for his contract and a decent player for his position, which is all I think anyone was expecting/hoping for out of him. His ability to play a solid CF has been the most important thing he's brought to the table this year.
  18. Putting stock into 10 AB and 4 AB sample sizes doesn't seem like sound decision making to me when you have gobs of AB sample size for Shouse vs. lefties and Jones vs. lefties. Suppan should've stayed in to face DeRosa, and then barring a DP Shouse in to face Jones.
  19. I don't think Fox gets the call with the Monroe acquisition, and Lou's apparent disgust with him his last game. Cedeno, Soto, and Gallagher all would have to be locks. I would guess Pignatiello, Ohman, and Cherry as well. I think the only thing I'd personally change would be Patterson for Cherry. Though, I wouldn't mind having Scott Moore as a 2nd lefty pinch hitter.
