    People are calling Hendry an idiot for trading Ceda for Kevin effing Gregg From what I see, many are also tying it into losing Wood. I am usually big on holding onto prospects, but I don't see the allure of a minor league reliever to get so damn upset at the GM to call him names and question whether he can do the job. For everyone who hates on a guy because hes a dominant reliever I would like you to familiarize yourself with a concept called "leverage". What leverage does Ceda hold on the market? Show me. Leverage as in "high leverage situation". You cast the scarlet R on him, but bringing in a guy to mow down a teams 2-3-4 hitters in the 8th inning in a close game is about as valuable as an average starter performing averagely for the first 6 innings of a game. You speak as if it is fact that Ceda will be that dominant of a major league reliever. That is a large reach as of right now. You speak like Gregg IS a dominant major leaguer, that's an irrefutable falsehood.

    People really need to stop suggesting this as a possiblility. The Padres don't want a 5M mediocrity as their closer. Why not? They've been paying 8m a year for a mediocre closer for years. Because they rescinded a 4M offer to a mediocre closer this year? And that was a guy they'd have to give up 0 players for? Come on. And is one of the most popular players in franchise history.

    When the Cubs win the world series without Kerry on the roster,the first person that says that's why they won, because they stopped relying on Kerry is getting a kick to the nuts. I hope Dave Kaplan wasn't planning on having more kids.

    We like Kerry, we think Kerry is a closer in this league. Life would be a lot easier if Kerry was 31, mediocre and cost one of the few prospects we had.

    Jesse Rogers is a sensationalist hack. He's not the only one reporting it though. Looks like Wood is done here. Either Wood had crazy demands or Hendry got the word from upstairs to not sign free agents. My comment had nothing to with what he was reporting. Just thought it should be pointed out.

    That's the thing. Wood has been a great pitcher whenever he's been healthy. The bullpen role seems to suit him well. I can understand if he is now looking for, and likely to get 4 years somewhere. But choosing Dempster over Wood seems so odd given Dempster's own uneven track record, not to mention his own surgery. Bad Haray Caray impersonations are worth 4M/Year

    I will go on record(since the dow looks safe to close above 8000) as saying there is no way Gregg gets traded to the Padres.

    Ceda's always been Quevedo-esque. This is my only rationale is that they thought he was going to eat his way out of the league.

    If Gregg doesn't get spun off somewhere else, the poor guy doesn't stand a chance around here. Think Marquis, only blowing 8th-9th innings in heartbreaking fashion rather than just pitching like [expletive] every few starts.

    I was just thinking this myself. Maybe the Padres didn't want Ceda back in a deal for Peavy, for whatever reason. Possibly the perception that one of the main pieces to a Peavy deal simply brought back a guy they had already had at one point? If I had to guess, this is part one of a possible 4 team trade. I wish I had that faith. I think Hendry's afraid he can't afford to re-sign Wood and wanted a "proven closer" as insurance.

    ibanez is only athletic in the sense that he is a professional athlete. Here's to hoping Hendry can "wow" the Marlins for Hermida because, there's no benefit to wasting money on Ibanez. ibanez is second on my list after hermida...he has solid numbers and would really bring some solid production to the lineup...i don't understand the dislike for ibanez His age. i can understand that, but who else would you rather have besides him? realistically Depends if Pie is still around. I'd rather use a Fontenot/DeRosa/Cedeno/Kosuke/Johnson/Pie timeshare for 2B/RF/CF.

    You know the A's aren't competing next year...right? the A's weren't exactly terrible this year though i wouldn't be surprised if they stole a playoff berth next season And the Angels weren't as good as their record last year with a couple big FAs on their team(even though Rodriguez wasn't as great as his saves total said, he was still a damn good closer)
