  1. My hope for tonight is that DeChellis has shaved the dot of hair at the front of his head, cause honestly, he looks ridiculous.
  2. Good read. It seems they like to go overboard with the conference tournament upsets in these though. When Cornell is getting an 11 seed this year you've probably gone too far. Yeah, they picked UC Riverside to make it out of the Big West and they're between the fourth and sixth best team in the conference. A couple of the rules the committee had from that process that I didn't know about before: - The top 3 teams in each conference can't play each other until the Final Four. - The play-in game cannot be between two traditionally black colleges (this one seems weird to me) I really like the break-neck pace of all the "vote eight"s. Wonder if I can duplicate that online this year. You'd need to get people to commit to being online together for a few hours.
  3. With the economy and the playoff performance last year, I think I'm gonna like the secondary market this year.
  4. If Miles is the only backup IF. And he plays an inning of OF in a non-emergency situation. Lou Piniella should probably be fired.
  5. Would you rather they operate like the Orioles of the past 10 years? Signing mediocre vets in a strive for 75 wins? Baltimore's finally getting it right.
  6. Oh come on, it would definitely be an upset for PSU to win. We're a better team and are at home in the Big Ten. I'd be very disappointed with a loss.
  7. Like last year, for instance. Illinois probably has the toughest finishing stretch of any Big Ten team for the last 5 games: PSU twice, at OSU, and home vs. Minn and MSU. However, they actually now control their own destiny to the Big Ten title and 1 seed if they win out. First step is tonight, so I really hope they come ready to play. PSU also won in Champaign against one of the Williams/Head/Brown teams Nope, that was just a Brown/Augustine team. It was the year after the national runner up team. That was the game McBride hit the game winner a little less than .1 seconds too late. That game cost us a shared Big Ten title, and at least a 3 seed.(We got hosed as it was, but that had to be what the committee looked back on.)
  8. He's gonna go to college? :-k Yeah, that or Arizona St.
  9. And we the fans should file a class action suit for them passing this off as legitamate sport when it was just roided up androids!! I demand blood from this stone.
  10. I didn't even tune in until the end of the 3-point contest. The dunk contest was pretty weak too HORSE was a lot like the 3 point contest only in slow motion. With no timer. With worse shooters. Who didn't care.
  11. So did I miss the part where everyone talked about what an epic bust HORSE was?
  12. "We should have a banner up there: the only team to make the tournament without a coach." YOW
  13. . :-k It's mighty big of the players union to allow the CBA to be breached when it benefits their own, isn't it? I love the blurb about how the union would permit Cruz and others to waive their individual rights. I don't think the union has a say in that decision. Wasn't it the union not allowing ARod to waive his rights that prevented him from being traded to Boston and instead to NYC? I believe it was that he was willing to take a salary cut to fit in the Red Sox's payroll and the union objected. That would be correct. ARod was will to cut something like $30 million off his deal to make the trade happen, but the union wasn't having it. The union confuses me sometimes. Why won't the union allow something like that? Does the union get a portion of that money or something? If it's his money what do they care what he does with it? Precedent.
  14. did they ever decide if they were building a new assembly hall or renovating the current one? (serious question) Economy has delayed the decision further. It looked like the plan was going to be a renovation during either the 10-11 or 11-12 season with the team playing elsewhere for their home games(Peoria, Chicago, Bloomington maybe? can't remember all the possibilities) This was a cause of concern with some fans cause 2010 is when the big boys come in (Richmond, Head, Leonard) and they didn't want them playing away from home for a full season ruining their hopes. I'd imagine when by the time things get turned around our AD will leave it to the next guy to undertake.(Guenther's contract is up in 2010, and he's getting up there.) Out my ass guess, new stadium built for '14-'15 whenever the aliens come back for it. Architectural marvel!
  15. Can I get a rundown of the Lavin tenure at UCLA? I know everyone pretty much hates him there because he wasn't God or John Wooden, but why, exactly? I understand UCLA is a top notch program, but what did he do (or not do) that makes him so reviled in Westwood? His players didn't get paid.
  16. What if you're talking about hair? Or fine coaching tenures?
  17. Ahhh grandstanding politicians. Probably my favorite part of this whole mess. Point your finger Waxman!!! Tell them they broke your heart!

  19. Until they get an arena not paid for with such blood money, the basketball team should stop showing up to all games, rather than just the 1 against Illinois every year.
  20. See, the problem with us being really good lately is that suddenly I've had this thought in my mind that we might be able to put out a win there, which we all know is probably close to impossible. It's probably not that implausible. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but I thought our last two games at AFH have been closer than the ones at Paige Arena. I think one came down to the wire. Still, I'm expecting the place to be a frenzy. And hopefully Marcus morris won't bump a ref this time and have to sit out the last 10 minutes of the game. I think it was 2 years ago Matt Lawrence missed a 3 at the buzzer that would've tied it, although last year you guys won by nearly 20. It's definitely a game I don't have any expectations of winning though, the only way it happens if some combination of great Mizzou shooting and Aldrich or Collins missing a bunch of time with foul trouble goes down. (it's no longer Paige) Why not? Here's an explanation. which actually proves that mizzou isn't the one that named it the Paige Arena. What?
  21. Texas could be in a lot of danger if they lose this one then the one vs OU on Saturday. Told you they weren't a lock.
  22. I think she invented toaster strudel.
  23. http://pollspeak.com/pollstalker/pollstalker.php Pretty sure this has been linked here before, but it's fun to look at. 4 voters did not rank Illinois this week. All 4 of them had Mizzou in the top 15 and Purdue ranked.(Seth Davis had them 13th!!) Somebody actually voted for Robert Morris. 1 guy has Butler ranked 6th. He did not drop them at all after they lost to Loyola. Same voter jumped Dayton 12 spots this week(TO 7TH) He dropped Utah St. 2 spots for losing to some awful team(they shouldn't even be ranked) 3 guys have LSU top 10. 1 guy still has Gonzaga in the top 10. One guy has Arizona 14th, KU unranked.
  24. They probably have a better resume than Duke.
  25. Color me shocked they're gonna go with 1 MIF. Though as said, it is Lou talking. I'm gonna really wind up hating Joey Gathright now too. This whole one backup IF for a 3B who's had leg issues, a SS who's worn down every year, and a 2B who's pretty much never played vs. lefties would be a lot more acceptable with Mark DeRosa as the one backup. Aaron Miles on the other hand, well he's the bane of my existence.
