  1. Campana was mentioned by Sveum when he was talking about leadoff hitters. Sveum said his speed can change a game and is very valuable. So sounds to me like he's 4th OF. McCleod answered a question about how the front office knows when a player is ready and he talked about Jackson. Said he still has a few things to work on, but also said he has the potential to be a rare centerfielder with multiple tools. Said they make sure to sit down with the players and let them know exactly what they want them to work on.
  2. What exactly did he say or talk about that gave you this impression? I don't know much about him. Honestly, don't have too many specifics to mention. I was just blown away by his intelligence. My girlfriend was falling asleep next to me and she mentioned how smart she thought he was. He just exuded baseball smarts. He talked about how the difference between scouting and statistics is like a seesaw. Getting the right balance between the 2 is key. The further away from MLB you get the more you need to trust on your scouting and the less reliable statistics are, but at the same time you can't let your scouting instincts control your impressions of a player. Said the biggest miss he ever made on a player was Reggie Abercrombie. He thought he would be an All-Star, and he still believed he would be well after the data told him he wouldn't be.
  3. Yeah not so sure people were waiting 2+hours for Darwin Barney's autograph. I got in line for Anthony Rizzo and Brett Jackson's autograph. By the time they left I was near the front and I talked myself into staying for Darwin Barney's autograph b/c otherwise I would feel horrible about myself for waiting in line for 2 hours and not getting anybody's autograph. I did see one Asian lady who had a Barney shirt on who freaked out when she got his autograph, but other than that nobody was too psyched to get his autograph judging from the fact that about 100 people let me pass them b/c they were more interested in getting Lee Smith's autograph than Barney's.
  4. Highlights of the Cubs Convention - Dale Sveum is running out of responses to your stupid Soriano doesn't hustle questions. Darwin Barney is a very nice man. Jason McCleod is a very nice man. But Joe Boehringer stole the Scouting panel. I was unbelievably impressed with him.
  5. The Padres were the lone vote against Selig's extension. So yeah, I'm guessing there are some issues there.
  6. Cespedes is currently 0-3 with 3 strikeouts.
  7. BUT WHAT WILL THEY NAME IT?!
  8. Rizzo is now my favorite Cub as well. Even if the Castro thing never happened.
  9. Is anybody else going to the Cubs Convention? I have looked for a schedule online and can't find one. Has a schedule been posted yet?
  10. I really hope you didn't have to pay for it. Who buys a jersey of a player rumored to be traded in the next couple of weeks? It was from my girlfriend's cousin. He's from out of town so he planned on having his mother pick it up for him. Apparently he told his mother to get me a jersey with no name on the back. He was planning on putting Epstein on the back. But instead she got me a Garza jersey. So now I have a Garza jersey and he will be gone in 3 weeks.
  11. I received a Matt Garza jersey tonight. So he will be traded within the next week.
  12. Who cares about pitching depth when your team isn't going to be any good? So we shouldn't improve our pitching depth b/c we're not going to be good? Should we even play games next year or just forfeit the season? Wow.
  13. For me it's all about pitching depth. We all know how awful Lopez, Coleman, Davis and Russell were last year. We know we need SP depth and we just got some. That was the biggest weakness on the team last year and acquiring Wood strengthens that. Even if he's a #4 or 5 - he's much better than what we had last year.
  14. Looks like a concussion for Seabrook. Not good. How many is that for him now?
  15. San Diego would be an odd destination for Garza. I can't wrap my head around all of this. All the connections between San Diego, Boston, and us. What with Hoyer leaving for San Diego, the Gonzalez/Rizzo deal, Epstein coming here, Hoyer coming here, Byrnes taking over there. Not sure if that would make a deal easier or more complicated. Definitely easier overall, IMO. Although everyone values the same attributes in the players, I'd say the trust/familiarity element is more impactful. I just don't see a guy like Garza going TO San Diego. They have spent the last decade shipping guys with FA on the horizon out of town. I agree, Garza doesn't make much sense to them. They just traded a 24 year old starter for prospects. Why would they trade prospects for a 28 year old starter. I understand if they want to move Rizzo, but not for Garza. Unless they plan on shipping Garza out for more prospects. But it would take more than Rizzo to get Garza.

  17. I heard that report, but I also heard another report that the Yankees actually made a substantial offer. Can't remember who said it though.
  18. You have to keep in mind that he's still only 22 and did miss significant time because of the Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
  19. Sullivan made a strange comment in an article tonight. He said that it was weird the Cubs had purchased the McDonald's b/c the team had banned personnel from picking up food there for the players. Apparently after hiring the nutritionist fast food was banned. Except for days when Garza pitched; for some reason everyone was allowed to eat Popeye's then.
  20. Getting Rizzo would make me extremely happy. Peter Gammons said on twitter that Jason McLeod once told him Rizzo had better makeup than anybody he had ever drafted. Considering also that he was drafted when Theo was GM, and was traded to San Diego when Hoyer was GM. I'm sure the Front Office has tremendous interest in him.
  21. If the report about 40-50 million for the Blue Jays was accurate I think the Yankees are going to get him. But I hope I'm wrong.
  22. So sick of seeing awful D
