  1. He sure did. Said he was the standout there today despite not having the best FB velocity, with the best combination of fastball, offspeed stuff and control. He's 6'1", 187 lbs. Gallardo is the second 7/2/18 IFA linked to the Cubs. The first is 16-year old Dominican SS Rafael Morel. Of the other two guys in my post above with Kiley McDaniel tweets, Starlyn Castillo is linked to the Phillies and Badler didn't link Abraham Calzadilla to any teams. The hardthrowing Cubans will pitch tomorrow. I can't find anything on this kid.

  3. I knew about it, but I'm a big UCLA fan. Really disappointed because it sounded like he was going to run away with a spot in the weekend rotation. Yeah, there was finally room for him in there. Molnar isn't back yet, is he?
  4. Am I the only one that missed that Justin Hooper blew out his arm in fall ball? I was really excited to see him this year after his big Cape performance last summer.
  5. I got my BA Prospect Handbook yesterday. Here is 11-31: 11. DJ Wilson, OF 12. David Bote, 2B/3B 13. Bryan Hudson, LHP 14. Keegan Thompson, RHP 15. Dillon Maples, RHP 16. Cory Abbott, RHP 17. Trevor Clifton, RHP 18. Justin Steele, LHP 19. Duane Underwood, RHP 20. Mark Zagunis, OF 21. Dakota Mekkes, RHP 22. Miguel Amaya, C 23. Javier Assad, RHP 24. Charcer Burks, OF 25. Jason Vosler, 3B 26. Michael Rucker, RHP 27. Erich Uelman, RHP 28. Alec Mills, RHP 29. Jonathan Sierra, OF 30. Jake Stinnett, RHP 31. Manuel Rondon, LHP Most surprising omission for me is Jeremiah Estrada. BA has REALLY gone downhill.
  6. Yeah, it's certainly not surprising that we're ranked so low. After the trades made to add quality at the big league level, the remaining talent is at the lower levels.
  7. That's because Pearson actually backed up the pre-draft scouting reports in his short pro debut. Little wasn't anywhere close to his. Big drop in velocity combined with poor command of everything left a really sour taste in everyone's mouths. Here's hoping it was just fatigue from the full college season and then a layoff.
  8. I saw that. Very happy. Kiley really did a great job with his lists and databases before joining the Braves.
  9. Yeah, really hoping he pulls a Thomas Hatch and gets back the pre-draft velocity. Hatch was 93-95 in the reports predraft, but was 88-91 at the end of the college season and in instructs. Similarly, Little was 92-95 predraft, but 88-91 during his first taste of pro ball.
  10. BA seems to be the one that has Maitan the highest ranked still. I'm not sure if I've seen a recent report from anybody else that would put Maitan in their top 100. I could see the Cubs still being interested though, if they bought the bat. We all know a bad body didn't stop them from falling in love with Schwarber.
  11. Has Shintaro Fujinami gone the way of Yuki Saito, the guy that was supposed to be a rival to Tanaka for years?
  12. I would be floored if the Cubs left any of their IFA pool unspent. At this point it's obvious that they aren't going to be shelling out $3 million to one of the LA bonus babies in the 2018 class, so I wonder if they are taking the shotgun approach or if they knew that they would need the majority of their pool for a Japanese or Cuban player?
  13. It would be great if Maitan had an ego about the signing bonus, and was willing to wait until he could get the $4 million again from some team. Given that I don't believe the Cubs were mentioned with any of the bigger name IFAs yet for next year, they could be in a position to pounce.
  14. Rucker is one of those guys that will probably never appeal to scouts. Short RHP without elite velocity or movement, no wipeout secondary, and is a flyball pitcher. Hatch is also a relatively short RHP, but he has the great movement on all of his stuff, while still having solid velocity. His slider can be plus, and he induces tons of groundballs with all of his pitches. I'm a big fan of Hatch, as long as he stays healthy. Rucker is sitting in the 92-93 range IIRC, and his GB% at Myrtle Beach was higher than Hatch's. Which is why I said it's not elite. Hatch sits 92-94 as well, but with tons more movement. I do stand corrected on Rucker's GB rate, though. I thought he was a flyball pitcher for some reason. That is a big boon for him, as he doesn't have the secondaries as mentioned before.
  15. 4th or 5th round pick.(5th, I think) Big power, had some hamstring issues during his HS season in Puerto Rico last year, so underperformed a bit. Healthy now, seems like we got a steal. Was over slotted, slot was 285k and we gave him 400k. 5th round. I can't remember who it was, but one of the national guys was commenting on how legit he was after the season. Went on to compliment the Cubs for being able to look past the injury-plagued HS season to see his talent.

  17. I just can't put De La Cruz that high. I get that he's got good stuff, but he isn't getting many innings at all. He honestly may already be on a reliever trajectory. I thought the great post-DL 2nd half of D.J. Wilson would have put him a bit higher in a depleted system, but I guess not. Also hadn't realized that Vazquez was that highly thought of defensively. That's fun.
  18. It was horsefeathering pancreatic cancer. A 17 year old had late-stage pancreatic cancer. That horsefeathers should be reserved for 70 year old alcoholics who drank their lives away, not 17 year olds. Just terrible.
  19. Dude had a Sammy hop.
  20. Little only gave up two singles and a BB in 4ip, but somehow allowed three runs to score (there was an error in the inning). That's some powerful sequencing luck right there. I was more referencing only 3 K's in 4 innings in SS ball as a 1st round college draft pick. Going through the play by play though, it looks like he came apart went guys got on base.
  21. Another "meh" outing for Little. I didn't see anything online about it, but am assuming he was high-80's again. On the other hand, Uelmen was good again.
  22. Estrada made his pro debut and threw a perfect inning with a K.
  23. Did somebody copy/paste an old Junior Lake scouting report and change SS/3B to RF/CF?
  24. That's still a few ticks slower than college, but not unexpected after the college season and then a layoff.
