  1. Did Kiley just comp Connor Scott to Kyle Tucker, but with 70 speed thrown in? That's #1 overall material. I can't imagine he has the power potential that Tucker had/has.
  2. Boring pitching day. Good thing, too, as I can go at least one day now without a damn pitching prospect breaking my heart.
  3. I know you're asking about draft picks, but why doesn't anyone seem to want to give Thoyer credit for development of Hendricks and Edwards? Acquired as 22 and 21 year old A-ball pitchers, respectively, neither a top-100 prospect (although Edwards became one later). People claim Thoyer haven't developed any pitchers since coming to the Cubs, and I'm wondering what farm system they think Hendricks played in. Mostly because they were already balling out in the Rangers system. There was no switch that turned on upon them coming to the Cubs. Hendricks would never be a top 100 prospect because he doesn't sit above 90 with his FB. Edwards needed to prove himself more to the list makers, as he was a really late round pick, who had not been scouted much at all. Those types have to sustain success a lot longer.
  4. That was a good read. I like what Badler had to say about both Pertuz and Ovalles. The Verdugo section did not sound great about his bat.
  5. Or have an almost equally shitty start. Whatever.
  6. I couldn't find any tweets, but according to this, he at least pitched on Monday. http://www.onlineathens.com/sports/20180410/high-school-sports-roundup
  7. If Albertos wants to pitch 5 shutout innings with 10 Ks and 0 BBs today, so that I can forget about Brendon Little, that'd be great.
  8. What kind of velocity did you see? 89-92 was what I was told.
  9. That's an understatement. What a damn abortion of a first full season start. It's cold still, but the velo still isn't up to what the pre-draft scouting reports had him at.
  10. 4 weeks of SEC play and India is at .429/.547/886 with 12 HRs and a 25 BBs to 22 Ks, and a perfect 4 for 4 in SBs for good measure. He's not going to make it to 62 as I once hoped. Yeah, he’s played his way up to 24 at this point. Likely. He gives off a big Jed Lowrie vibe to me. Certainly no superstar, but could be a really big piece of a contending team with his positional versatility and ability to be "solid" if pressed into starting duties.
  11. 4 weeks of SEC play and India is at .429/.547/886 with 12 HRs and a 25 BBs to 22 Ks, and a perfect 4 for 4 in SBs for good measure. He's not going to make it to 62 as I once hoped.
  12. Just like the chances aren't very good at getting a guy who can stick as a starter and has 3 plus pitches with both control and command. The odds of getting an impact player of any kind outside of the 1st round are just not high at all. I would prefer at least 3 hitters in the first 5 picks this summer, but it obviously can't be forced.
  13. I would like to see more Ks from Lange, given that he is a college pitcher with an advanced secondary. But not bad for a first start. 0 walks was nice.
  14. Nice. 4:3 GO/FO as well, and only used 65 pitches.
  15. He's a bulldog out there. Never gonna be a TOR starter, but I could see a future where he ate innings as a #4.
  16. I need 2 of the 3 listed starters to have good games tonight to make up for the severe lack of interesting bats playing in full season ball.
  17. It was a line drive single even. Not of the IF variety that is so common in the minors.
  18. It certainly could be semantics, but isn't that expected? If there isn't any improvement, especially after all the top 100 picks in June, it would be a tremendous disappointment. At least for me. Improvement to the 21-24 range is what I would expect after normal prospect development and adding all the draft picks and IFA picks this summer. I would be really pleased if several guys took off and bumped the system to the 13-18 range.
  19. I tend to cool pretty quickly on these lottery ticket type prospects, Wilson's an example of that. Entering 2017 I had high hopes, he more or less got his ass handed to him by MWL pitchers, and now my OF hopes are for one of these IFAs, Velazquez, or a TBD high 2018 pick to step up. The ultimate dream is that one of these teenaged switch hitters they've piled up becomes the next Beltran. That seems fair and realistic. He actually hit really well after the injury last year. .255/.339/.516, 10% BB, 19.1% K, .282 BABIP, 135 wRC+ If he hadn't done that, I would be there with you. But with his defense in CF and speed on the basepaths, that keeps the dream alive. Velazquez is the guy I'm allowing myself to dream on if Wilson doesn't take the step forward.
  20. Bohm is an excellent draft prospect but Kris Bryant's excellence is so understated for a player so accomplished already. I also like my Swaggerty/Granderson comp better than Benintendi, same build and potential skillsets if you asked me. Logan Gilbert is really meh for me. Jenista's cool, though he was a better overall athlete initially but like Bohm he's always hit. The same guy who said Bohm was a 1B/DH as a pro, said Jenista will have no problems playing COF as a pro, barring injury. He probably goes mid-1st anyway, but if he were to somehow fall a little further than expected, I would love to have him added to the system.
  21. Was really hoping this would be the year D.J. Wilson erupts, while really toning down the Ks. His post-injury 2017 had me optimistic. Yesterday was not a step in that direction.
  22. Has he seen Bohm play in the field? I just don't see any way he stays there. I love that bat though. Still could be a top 5 pick based on just the bat. I've seen him play in the field on video. He seems fine to me. KB was a much better athlete and had a much stronger arm. I felt way more confident about Bryant's ability to stay at 3B. His first step isn't great and he might have trouble on slow rollers. I thought Alex Gordon could stick at 3B, but I never watched him play in college. I could be wrong, but I believe most scouts think Bohm can play 3B at the pro level. You'll live with his defense at 3B if Bohm's bat is as special as scouts say it is. He has good makeup too. I've admittedly only seen him 1 time, and it wasn't enough to form an opinion. But I have spoken with 2 guys (1 a D1 coach, another a scout who saw him extensively on the Cape last summer) who said he is a 1B/DH all the way. They said very similar things that you mentioned about his 1st step being terrible. Basically they called him a statue over there. I think right now scouts are 50/50 at best about his ability to stick.
  23. Well that’s a shocker. Ricky Thomas, of all people, gets the OD start for South Bend. Edit: apparently he goes by Tyler Thomas, not Ricky Thomas. I knew he dropped a name. Have to imagine he’s piggy backing with someone.
  24. It looks like 5A, which is 1200-1600 kids. It goes up to 8A, so a little bigger than average down there. That's pretty strong Yeah, a brief search shows that Addy Russell, Eric Hosmer, and Josh Donaldson all played at that level. It's Florida, so there is going to be legit talent at every level.
  25. What high school level is he pitching at? It looks like 5A, which is 1200-1600 kids. It goes up to 8A, so a little bigger than average down there.
