  1. There really should not be any inevitable struggles from a 1st round collegiate SP in short season ball. I realize the previous 1st round pitchers taken have set a very low bar, but even the 3rd and 4th rounders from this year have had zero issues at all in short season ball. Jensen's command is pretty terrible right now. Hopefully some tweaks can be identified at the pitching lab this offseason to get the command to even average. The stuff is at least legit, though.
  2. .300/.391/.500, 10.1% BB, 11.6% K in 69 PAs prior to breaking hand .241/.301/.323, 6.8% BB, 8.9% K in 180 PAs afterwards We have to wait until next year to find out if it was league adjustments, the hand, or a combination of both that led to his drop in production. Those hand and wrist injuries are buggers for hitters. I'll always remember how anemic Derrek Lee's bat was when he came back from the hand/wrist injury in 2006. It took until 2017 for him to get back to being himself. I'm assuming it has to do with the foreign substance found on his glove. Yikes. Suspended for that? Seems a bit harsh to me.
  3. Well the pitching sure didn't disappoint yesterday. A recap: Alzolay - 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 Ks (69 pitches) Patterson - 5.2 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 8:2 GO/FO ratio (94 pitches) Marquez - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K (64 pitches) Franklin - 3 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 Ks (43 pitches) Miguel Amaya has a 127 wRC+ as a 20 year old in High A, while playing the most demanding defensive position. That's for the entire season. He's sitting on a 140 wRC+ over the past 2 months (170 PAs). He's at a stupid 167 wRC+ since June 29th (123 PAs). He honestly still should be in everyone's conversation for best prospect in the system.
  4. I checked on the former Cub farmhands that were dealt at the deadline, and it's interesting to me that the Tigers have used Alex Lange exclusively in relief since acquiring him. Same iffy results as when he was a starter, but still interesting that they immediately started that transition. Richan picked up almost exactly where he left off, by walking very few, striking out a respectable amount, and giving up loads of hard contact.
  5. Alzolay with 2 hits allowed, 0 BBs and 5 Ks through 3 shutout innings. Great bounce back effort so far. Russell with a HBP and another bomb. Maybe a team this offseason would still trade something for him if he keeps mashing at AAA? Haha, who am I kidding. Everyone mashes at AAA this year.
  6. That'll play. It's only been 5 total innings as a pro, but I love the fact that he hasn't walked anybody yet. Chris Clarke has only walked 1 guy in 13 pro innings (while striking out 19) as well. Makes up a bit for Ryan Jensen walking a guy every inning.
  7. I believe Jack Patterson gets his 2nd start at Tennessee tonight, making it the rare night where all affiliates have a starting pitcher worth monitoring.
  8. Did someone else post this already? [tweet] [/tweet] Cubs starting to integrate the Houston Way?
  9. 99% sure it’s box score magic. Opposing starter supposedly threw 36 pitches in 5 innings with 2 walks, 4 hits, and 5 Ks.
  10. A 27.3% BB rate is absurd, regardless of the quality of the competition. He'll be a fun one to follow stateside next summer for sure.
  11. Kohl Franklin just keeps doing his thing. 4 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. It's interesting to me that they have him on such a strict pitch count. I don't recall seeing it this drastic before in prospects that are not in their draft years. Of course, we haven't had any pitchers worth following that closely the past few years, so maybe it has already been there and I just didn't care enough to look.
  12. Wasn't Candelario under this FO? By the time this FO took over, he played his first games in Boise. Indeed he was. Without looking, I could have sworn he was a 2012 signee. But nope. He was part of the Carlos Penalver/Jin-Yeong Kim class.
  13. Wasn't Candelario under this FO?
  14. Very close to just writing him entirely off. Already did this last year.
  15. Sigh. I hate pitchers. Strumpf starting for Eugene tonight, so his absence the past 2 days obviously wasn’t a promotion.
  16. Expected, but still shitty to see.
  17. That's 6 straight terrific outings for Kohl Franklin. 4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 Ks
  18. Him starting to finally hit well is a terrific thing in advance of trade season. I'm more interested in having a potential Almora replacement since the trade market is pretty much lacking in any interesting CFers not named Starling Marte. I want one too, but Happ isn't it.
  19. Him starting to finally hit well is a terrific thing in advance of trade season.
  20. I was just perusing through the twitters, and ran across this from last night. [tweet] [/tweet] Strumpf is either going up to South Bend or has an injury of some kind.
  21. Whoa. Brendon Little is finally showing something today. 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BBs, 8 Ks.
  22. That’s preferable to a trade, I suppose,
  23. Christopher Morel hasn't played in 3 straight games, despite finishing the last game he played in.
  24. Perlaza promoted to South Bend. Goes 2 for 3 with a BB and a K in his debut.
