  1. I like newer stats, despite having never, ever heard of them before coming to this site 5 or so years ago. And I considered myself a fairly knowledgable baseball fan. However, I now consider myself more so and even enjoy the game more because of it. My take on stats is pretty broad, though, and encompasses the whole "small ball" style of play. As in, I can't stand it anymore. When people have thousands upon thousands of instances comparing runners scored from first w/ no outs with runners scored from second w/ one out, I get pretty convinced that in MOST instances, you shouldn't waste an out to try to move a guy over. That said, in the broader spectrum, I think I still value the athleticism of a baseball player a little moreso than those I would consider "hardcore statheads", though in no way do I think they don't consider such attributes. I strayed a little, but I think I got the gist. It's an interesting debate and one that could be terrific for both sides if some people would not ridicule those who don't share their opinion. By the way, I think the non-stat people ridicule stat people more than the other way around, but that's been argued here before as well.
  2. Thanks for the tips. I'll probably just wait. I won't have them until mid-March anyway. I'm sure I can always at least get my money back somewhere.
  3. Anyone care to advise me on selling two Cub-Cardinal tickets for the Saturday, April 21 game? They are section 404, second row. The face value was about 90 dollars and I can't go. I'd like to make a little cash because I'm hoping to help offset the price on several other tickets I got. My problem is I'm not seeing tickets on ebay for this game going for much more than face value. Is it too early?
  4. So, given all the new, talented players, the new coaching staff, and the possible return to health of other talented players- are the beat writers excited just like the regular fan?
  5. Lanky guys like me like the baggy pants down to the shoes look. It hides the chicken legs.
  6. I do recall him wearing his socks up high. In the past he's done that during the regular season and wore his pants "down" (insert joke here) when in spring training. He hasn't been doing much in spring training the last 3 years, so that's why it looks different.
  7. Man, it must be loosening up in the virtual world.
  8. It kicked me back to the waiting room, so I shut it down.
  9. Ha, I quoted myself a minute ago.
  10. Man, even some not-so-attractive games are in "slightly obstructed view" territory.
  11. Keep clicking it...you'll get through. Whatever you do, don't close it! No matter what occurs, STAY ALIVE!
  12. I can't bring myself to close the damn thing after waiting so long to get in.
  13. Last call on this window I have open. I can't find anything left to fit my schedule, but I could help a brother out.
  14. Oh dear god you're optimistic. :D
  15. I have a window open if someone's jonesing.
  16. Yeah, he said he wanted that a couple of days ago.
  17. Was Piniella the manager that had Johnson come back on short rest to try to win 20 games one year? He ended up with a ton of innnings that year if I'm thinking right.
  18. They need another bullpen arm. (The fact that I've made this joke on this site about 5 times the past two months just shows how nutty they have been in their pursuit of relief pitchers)
  19. Definitely a good thing and I like the concept of skipping a start if the pitcher is above his normal fatigue level. If all the starters are healthy they have the depth to do just that.
  20. So, can you not open your browser and go through all the steps in a whole new window?
  21. HA! That makes it even better. http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070221&content_id=1810726&vkey=news_cin&fext=.jsp&c_id=cin "Power Pack" ticket prices range from $92-$257 per ticket package. Online service charges also apply.
  22. At first I didn't like hearing Derosa wouldn't be in the outfield much, but it makes sense. If Murton could handle RF it would make things easier as far as getting at-bats for everyone.
  23. Now get the hitters to swing at strikes and we're set!
