  1. I don't know if you're joking, but I think he was drafted as a shortstop out of college.
  2. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080321/SPORTS02/80321002/1050/SPORTS02 I guess this is worthy of an update. Thames or Inge do not sound good for Wuertz. Inge would be o.k. (he can actually play centerfield well, and about 4 other positions including catcher) but he can not hit worth a crap. If he ONLY played against lefty pitchers he could be o.k. I guess, as he has some decent splits there. That said, it could only be a good deal for the Cubs if Detroit ate all of Inge's bad, bad salary and even then I'm not sure it would be good. Detroit needs bullpen help and I'd like to see them get it since I like them too, but I can't think of anything they have to trade back that the Cubs need. Excluding Carlos Guillen back at short, of course.
  3. the 700 wlw morons are in love with dusty. when i was listening to them yesterday, they were praising how dusty has the balls to give scott hatteberg the leg-up in the 1st baseman competition because votto is having a crappy spring, and how they agreed that votto needed to prove himself at aaa louisville. it's all pretty hilarious. I've heard those guys plenty. Dusty is this perfect manager for them. With their anti-Dunn bias and Baker egging him on to stop walking, it could make for interesting listening.
  4. an update- a member here has expressed interest in them, so I think they're off the block.
  5. Is anyone on here interested in opening day tickets? I got two for my father-in-law and have 4 extra. I was going to sell them on ebay, but will cancel that if someone here wants them. I'll sell them here just to break even if there's interest.
  6. Well said, BBB. I was also going to point out that Dusty's never really held back a young pitcher. Dusty seems to downplay vets for getting doubled up twice a week on routine fly balls and bury talented youngsters on the bench because they miss a sign. That's probably not real out of the ordinary for most managers, but he seems to do it a lot. What's more frustrating to me about him is his love for small ball no matter the circumstances.

    Ryan Braun

That's what I wanted to hear.
  8. Is there any hope at all for a sophomore slump out of this guy? I look at what he did last year and his big bunch of strikeouts vs. very little walks is about the only thing that gives me even a hint that he won't kill the ball again. Someone please tell me his BABIP was 100 points above league average or something. I do not want to see this kid combine with Fielder to ruin a chance at a weak division for the Cubs.
  9. I'd say he'll make the report on pitchers.
  10. That would be fun to watch! I wonder if he could throw harder to first than Shawon? He's working on a knuckler so Lee can win the gold glove again this year.
  11. That is dumb. If he plays anywhere on non-pitching days it should be SS.
  12. I'll believe this when I see who's starting in May.
  13. My wife makes 'Cincinnatti' style chili and it is the best thing to eat ever in the world, so there.
  14. So, whoever had "midday" on the now annual 'when do people worry about Ramirez reporting' contest wins?
  15. But, just because there's no reason to stockpile SS doesn't mean our team won't. Just like 2B every other year. I hope this means something more, but color me skeptical since we've seen these kinds of signings before for no reason.
  16. I get 95% of Reds games where I live. This should be an interesting couple of years. It would be just like Baker to get them to the playoffs at least once in the next 3 years, but we'll see 1) if that happens 2) what ramifications there will be / if any Dunn is not his type of player and they have yoiung pitchers. Who knows.
  17. I always thought he was cocky.
  18. Sammy Sosa? Barry Bonds?
  19. If we got rid of Marquis in the deal I'd probably be for it.
  20. If it weren't for the Brewers, I'd be getting pretty confident about a Division title for the Cubs.
  21. Photoshop anyone? So, I guess you'd have Jose Canseco, Bonds, Clemens and who? Big Mac? Caminiti. Yep, I forgot about him.

  23. I led one league in points, but was upset in the semi's- will still net 100 bucks (if they pay- this league is less than responsible). In the other, I was in the cellar until a big trade and now I'm going into the last week fighting for 3 rd and a piece of the action.
