  1. I read somewhere that Mahomes fed the Chiefs information that another team was going to draft him if he slid to their position. When they heard that they paid the price to move up. Their evaluation of him is a separate matter than the cost to get him, of course.
  2. Ha, yeah, sorry The extremes are bring back everyone or start over. Doing anything in between those two extremes leads to some questions about the QB and the OC. If you keep Fields, do you want him running offense #3 in his 4th year? Do you plan to give him 2 more years to learn offense #3? If you keep Flus and get a new OC, can they run the Shannahan offense? Probably can find someone familiar enough with that scheme to avoid the offense being brand new. But the real impact then is how the playcalling would fit Fields better. This coudl work but it's kind of a needle in a haystack. Any new coach I doubt would not draft a new QB. Wrigley has promoted keeping Fields and drafting someone; that's a possibility here but it's a complication a new coach might not want.
  3. The draft haul is enticing. I’ve been posting about the eagles and keeping two firsts while they waited out the hurts decision. I don’t think poles is going to clean house, and if that doesn’t happen you can run it back knowing you’ve got another chance next year if things don’t improve with all the talent around the qb. If caleb is actually that highly valued you could get the three firsts and three more picks, maybe four firsts. That’s a lot of picks you could bundle to trade up when you’re ready.
  4. An OC with a stud QB is a future head coach, whether they actually made the player better or not More correlation than causation
  5. I don't see how Poles can run it back with Fields. To keep Fields, you almost have to keep Getsy to avoid a third offense in his fourth season. If Poles moves on from Fields, does Getsy stay? I would think he does for two reasons. First, he's the incumbent and hand picked by Flus/Poles. Second, who do you replace him with? A HC candidate that doesn't get a HC job but still leaves his current gig? That's a whole different group of candidates (Eric Bienemy for example) than the OC looking to be a head coach (Ben Johnson, Bobby Slowik). And this candidate has to be desperate enough to work for Flus, who has a 8-23 record going into his third year, after which he'd be a lame duck coach. If Poles moves on from Fields and Getsy is out at that point just lose everyone and start over with an OC hire to be HC.
  6. You used 1.1 instead of 10A? This is proof of something, but I'm not sure what...
  7. 49ers & Dolphins for me right now!
  8. The logic here is try for two on the first touchdown, if you get it you win with an XP on the second TD. If you don't you convert, you retain the ability to go for two on the second to tie. Going for 2 down 10 makes no sense to me, unless you saw the Houston game where their kicker got hurt and was it a RB or S kicking for them?
  9. Always that bad. I saw enough funny clips that I tried to watch it once. Not a fan. I just wait for them to be trending on Twitter and save myself time
  10. I think there are two clear paths here: First path is draft Williams or Maye and trade Fields away for whatever you can get. You still have another high pick you can use to draft a stud or trade back to get more picks. Second path is to roll with Fields. In this situation you have to trade out of #1 to get future first round picks. No less than one, even if that's NE trading up one spot. This follows the Eagles model where Howie kept ammunition to trade up in case they wanted to move on from Hurts. Retaining this flexibility is the most important thing if you keep Fields. A third path could be to keep Fields and use all the picks, but I don't like that option. This season, no matter what happens these last four games, has not been the slam dunk of "is he the guy" that this season was all about back in the summer. We still don't know and I don't think we will based on the last four games. I'm replying to this comment because this is the one way having more assets helps you in this decision. It essentially puts it off a year to give Fields another run at showing what he is. Not sure which of these is right, but I think I like the second path the best right now.

    NFL Week 13

    Bears Trade 2024 First (1) Carolina Trades 2024 Second (33) 2025 First 2026 First 2027 First
  12. I think he's skipping the bowl on even considering the draft. If the way it shakes out leads him to think he wants to go back to school rather than play for Belichick or the Bears he could still make that decision later. The other thing with WIlliams is he can just say, "I don't want to play for ____" or "I want to play for ____". Elway did it, Eli did it. NFL teams and players may not love that, but he can certainly do it and sit out if he wants. He got $4M or something to go to USC (not sure where i heard this or may be the wrong player) so he's not destitute and can hold out for a year if it's that big of a deal to him. My main point is I wouldn't read this as an indicator that he would not go back to school. (I think he'll enter the draft BTW)
  13. Interesting Does this say something about other QBs on the roster? Or their coach? There was chatter of Day to aTm but I assumed that was just internet BS speculation.
  14. I remember a Mahomes interview talking about the Bears telling him that if he was there when they picked he was their guy. Maybe it was a Pat Sr interview....
  15. He just did another Podcast visit with Hoge and Jahns. They talk about keeping Fields or taking QB #1. Lucas says he would take a new QB. It is fun to hear him talk about past drafts and behind the curtain type stuff
  16. For me it's like a dream where you're giving a speech naked. I hate when the entire country sees our team playing like dog horsefeathers.
  17. Crazy thing is, he almost certainly has a full time security detail including a driver. He managed to overcome all of that to sneak off with the keys somehow

    NFL Week 12

This is a valid point. I've seen people ascribe this 4D chess to Poles, and maybe there is some truth to it. But I'm always curious if Poles made a killer decision or if the Panthers just botched this. Bears wanted one of Burns, Moore, DT (always forget his name). Panthers messed up big by not making it be Burns since they have since been unable to extend him. Then there was chatter about the Panthers making a move for a #1 receiver, driving Panthers twitter bananas. Rightly so. It's definitely possible that Moore replaced a 2025 1st, but Burns would not have given that he was on the last year of his deal.
  19. The same DJ Moore who broke ten tackles on a similar play for a third down conversion earlier in the game. Looking at the replay I see why Fields moved on from Moore, the safety was rolling down, but Moore is the best player on the team and probably could have gotten the first down. If the bomb was to Mooney instead of Scott maybe it's reeled in and Fields is a hero.
  20. I herad somewhere that the Vikings have been bringing everyone or dropping everyone. It will be a good challenge for a Fields to read what the defense is doing and make the right call. He's got to be ready with the hot read against the blitz - I saw him do this at least once against the Lions, completing a pass over the middle to Moore - but also aware enough to identify when everyone drops out and scan the field. If the line can hold up against 4 man pressure he might have a chance.
  21. I was talking to a guy at work yesterday about what it would take the rest of this season to decide to stick with Fields. For me, he would have to play well AND win all four of their "Coin flip" games (Minnesota, Atlanta, Green Bay, Arizona) and at least one of the other three games (Detroit, Cleveland, Detroit). That seems like a pretty high bar and I don't expect to see it. If it happens I think everyone would be back coaching wise along with Fields. If not, I'm taking this trade (or even a lesser version), hiring the top OC available to take over and drafting Maye and hopefully Harrison, but whatever other stud "blue chipper" available along with getting a couple picks back. I'm not sure I want Poles to stay, but I would be surprised if he doesn't. Maybe Warren is cold blooded enough to bounce him and bring in his own guys.
  22. Isn't the deadline for the fifth year option the year before? During this offseason the Bears have to elect to exercise the option for the 25 season before the 24 season. In your scenario are you exercising his fifth year option or no?
  23. Let's say the decision is made after the season to move on from Fields. Flus is fired, Poles stays and hires Ben Johnson or Bobby Slowik and they want Maye (I think I like Maye better than Caleb). Maybe they can move back from 2 to 1 if that helps you get over this. Assuming Fields plays somewhere close to the Washington game but struggles to match that performance against Cleveland and one of the Lions games. Overall serviceable, but not eye-popping OMG he is the guy after all type performance. On the trade market, what can you reasonbly hope for? Lots of teams need QB, but not everyone would want to trade for Fields. Say Atlanta, between the Pace connection and the mad scientist Arthur Smith. Could you get a 24 2nd and conditional 24 2nd? He must have some value, but not enough that it tips the scale towards trading him instead of keeping him on its own. What do you all think the price for Fields would be in the offseason given the above, or similar?
  24. Is this like if the Bears hired Shanahan? What is the NFL comp to this?
  25. Bears remaining opponents Lions x2 and the Browns - 3L Cardinals - W Vikings, Packers, Falcons - coin flips? Hard to see #1 not being the Cardinals at this point. Panthers have Cowboys, Titans, Bucs x2, Saints, Falcons, Packers, Jaguars - Maybe they win one of Titans/Falcons? NYGiants have one winnable game in the Staffordless Rams, maybe two with Patriots Patriots and Rams likely don't win much more. Maybe the Bears are really worse than all these teams?
