  1. I heard clips of this podcast on the score the other day Annoying bears twitter/podcaster (check the start of this video if you don't believe me) got an interview with Ben Johnson's agent, Rick Smith. Hopefully it starts at the beginning of the interview (38 minutes in on the Apple podcast) Key Takeaways: George McCaskey is not an impediment to winning. Rick Smith told them everything that is wrong with their team and they either already knew it or accepted the feedback. Without this he would have directed Johnson to target other openings. Kevin Warren was/is instrumental in helping the Board understand how to operate their franchise (he really is Ving Rhames). The 20 interview requests does not mean the team is incompetent. The team is mining for information on Johnson, looking up the other 31 franchises' skirt to understand how they operate/etc. Rick Smith/the agency is doing homework on Poles and the rest of the Bears to make sure that the team is good enough for their client. The interview is the last piece of the vetting puzzle. Poles and Johnson are ideologically aligned enough to work together. This is the "alignment" that Smith signaled to the Bears after Flus got fired. It really was a clear communication floated from Smith to the Bears.
  2. Tom Brady making his mark? Not what I thought it would look like Carroll is a floor raiser. They need competency and he should be able to provide it
  3. The Hoge and Jahns podcast was pannin the Waldron hire yet again, this time stating that everything Morgan had done in previous seasons to coach up the OL on the outside zone run game was tossed out the window by Waldron. Couple that with DAndre - I'm just gonna bump it outside - Swift and the result is the lousy run game we had. The product on the field seems to jive with five guys not being in sync or comfortable with the pass protections either. All the missed free runners up the middle for weeks on end. I guess they were trying to put a finer point on the dysfunction of Caleb's rookie year. Johnson definitely gives us a lot to get excited about and wonder on, knowing that he is going to essentially design the scheme around Caleb.
  4. That's what Twitter said - Sounds like Cohen had the same concern
  5. After Johnson asked if they would consider a change
  6. Double post
  7. Great video Detroit has their starting LG Zeitler coming into FA. This would be a logical pick up as a short term starter (guy is 35). Will be fun to see if they can plug all the holes in FA (at least in some way) so they can truly be BPA in the draft.
  8. Is Angellini a possible starter? He looked good in his short relief outing against Georgia
  9. Maybe you have some insight as to why can ND not get an above average to great QB. Are they not paying the NIL money? Is the ND lifestyle something that turns off ALL the best QB recruits? Every time I watch them I'm amazed that their QB is the best one on the roster
  10. Dennis Allen selection has been praised by several NFL media types on Twitter. I do love the idea that DA would be head coach/defense while Johnson can be head coach/offense. Also word that Rizzi will come from NO to be ST Coach. Fraley possibly coming from Detroit as OL Coach or maybe have to elevate him to OC
  11. Twitter guys who were calling Johnson to the Bears say 6/90 That is in line with what I heard last year, which was that Johnson wanted $15MM/yr.
  12. He also tosses the Jordan Love floater downfield and has receivers go and get it. Not taking anything away from him, just can't see that from our team very often
  13. I listen to the Athletic Football show; their quote on McCarthy is that his career winning percentage is right between Bill Walsh and Tom Landry. Yes, he looks and sounds like an idiot, but he is a solid offensive coach and what they call a "floor raiser" As much as I want the super sexy high ceiling coach I"m not sure this team is ready for it given how the locker room broke up. They might need more of a boring, steady hand. That's not the opposite of Flus in the personality department, but it is in terms of competency as a head coach and on the correct side of the ball.
  14. That Athletic mock had Campbell at 18, thinking he at least starts at G
  15. No way, hope is up to #8 in MLB??
  16. At this point I think the Commanders have the fairy dust coated on them like stripper glitter that won't come off Hard to see them beating the Lions, but they are a charmed team right now
  17. Someone needs to take the meme of the refs doing the lambeau leap with the packers and update it to whatever the chiefs would do Hard not to see all the call going the Chiefs' way week in week out
  18. There's chatter that Jones is complaining to the other owners about how much dead money is going to fire coaches. He is apparently trying to convince them to behave like he did with McCarthy even though it is an objectionable situation to all parties except the owner. No use trying to convince an 80+ year old to change their mind. It will not happen
  19. Not likely that the Bears would do the Chris Spielman/Lions thing, but Chico might be a good voice for the Halas family to listen to. Seems to be universally respected in the football world, former Bear from the SuperBowl winning team, likely has lots of league wide contacts given all his time as a coach. He made a lot of bad decisions in Washington, but in theory that wouldn't be his lane. Again, doesn't seem like a thing the Bears would do, but I wouldn't hate it. Rivera would be better than Kreutz or Urlacher. Cutler might be the most fun, ha
  20. No Chiefs in the SB is my only hope
  21. Let's see, find user, ignore...
  22. He was the architect of "clud dub"
  23. Agree, same. If Poles would have signed a FA, landed McGlinchey for example, the Wright pick is not quite so necessary and you can draft a difference maker who fell due to character concerns. He would have been here before Sweat (not sure he commands the DLine room) and who knows if he would have been less behaved here than there.
  24. Not sure where to look it up, but I'd check out double team rate against each of these guys before declaring Dex close to Carter. Carter does have better players around him too, column A/column B, I guess
