  1. I still can't believe that they signed him to that extension. I realize they had him and Saquan on expiring deals, but I'd much rather reach a contract with Saquan and franchise Jones than the other way around.
  2. I read that it is now top % guaranteed, exceeeding TJ Watt The guarantee % seems crazy to me, the AAV doesn't, but the odds that they don't want this guy for the next three years seem pretty low.
  3. I agree with both your and Big Slick comments. I think Fields would likely be better almost anywhere else, but he is what he is. If he was amazing he'd be hitting the open guys when they're open and he's just not doing it. That's just who he is, and who he was at OSU where he had elite & superior talent to the competition. When hiring I only pay attention to "have they done it before?" versus "could they do this?" It's pretty easy to make the mistake of projection and envision someone learning something unique to what you do or different from what they've done in the past because you did it yourself or someone else did it. Most of the time, that "reinvention" you're projecting doesn't happen and the person is only so effective, and usually a disappointment compared to an unfair expectation.
  4. I saw a clip by Schmitz, I think, full of plays with Darnell holding his left arm against his body and relying completely on his right arm. He would bring up his left when Crosby tried inside, but it was pretty obvious that he was trying to operate without using his left arm. Pretty tough dude and an admirable performance given his injury while facing Crosby, and even #9, the rookie with a bull rush. Spacing on his name
  5. The hard part for me with the Minnesota game is that Fields wasn't able to pull off the quick game at all. And that's one of the few ways out against the blitz heavy gameplan. I agree with your point that Fields is at his best when he's pushing the ball down the field. But when Minnesota's heavy blitz took that away he couldn't execute at all. Bagent can't do what Fields is good at. Fields can't do what Bagent is good at. I've seen lots of quotes asking for Bagent's processing in Fields body. Hard to disagree with that, but let's see how we feel after the Chargers game.
  6. Bortles was #3, I think, but I completely understand and agree with your point. Even the "can't miss" #1 prospects miss sometimes. I always think back to Manning/Leaf draft and how the perception was that they were neck and neck for whowould go #1. I wasn't that plugged in back then, but it if was really a coin flip that's the ultimate proof that nobody knows.
  7. And he won't have that kind of time in the NFL Even if he scrambles around like he does at USC, every player on the field will be bigger/faster/better than the CFB opposition. It's such a huge step up in competition, he or Maye or any other QB will have a steep learning curve. It makes Stroud's start very impressive by comparison.
  8. Radio guys made it seem like the entire secondary will be back and playing. That, along with Jefferson being out, gives me hope that we could win this. Donta Foreman's time to shine
  9. Double post
  10. I remember the shoulder concerns. My memory is that Saban was at the Dolphins and didn't want Brees due to the injury concern. They went with Culpepper instead and then Saban was out shortly after. Crazy to think that Saban wasn't at Alabama then, seems like forever
  11. We could easily take the haul of future picks in a trade back, then trade back up Texans did it this year for Anderson given all their Watson picks are still piled up. Eagles did it when they traded back from 6 to 12 to 10 for Devonta Smith Poles has shown an aggressive streak with Claypool trade, trading up for Stevenson. It would be cool to always have extra picks, but all the draft capital has to turn into real players and wins.
  12. I hadn't heard that take on the '25 2nd. I had it in my head that adding Moore took away the '25 first. I kind of assumed that they would have had the higher second, but maybe the Moore addition moved it from 38 to 61 Either way, glad we got what we did
  13. I thought Poles asked for Moore, Burns, or their DT. Fitterer chose Moore. It's funny now that rumors are out about how the Panthers are trying to trade for a #1 and wouldn't extend Burns. Panthers fans were pissed and trying to figure out the logic.
  14. Saw this and wondered where Field is: Passing Yards: 1143 (13) TD: 11 (2) INT: 5 (47) QBR: 46.1 (22) Rating: 95.4 (12)
  15. I think he showed up on the "estimated" practice list earlier in the short week AND actually practiced in their live practice
  16. It could have been a 3 week injury and the team wanted the roster spot. I saw some tweet about him a week ago indicating he was feeling good and moving, etc., so he may be in good shape already. Hard to say. I think they're better when he's in there, so I'm hoping he suits up and Patrick takes a seat.
  17. I heard some chatter about the owners wanting Flus and telling Poles that. Makes you wonder if they told Poles "Flus is the guy, but you can meet with him to confirm you want to work with him. You'll be his boss and have fire/hire authority. If you like him and the arrangement the job is yours?" I've never wanted to accuse the Bears owners of meddling or being the ultimate cause of the franchise's problems but they did tell Emery he had to keep Lovie for a season, so I wouldn't put it past them. If I was Poles and didn't absolutely love Flus I'm not sure I would have taken the job, since GMs don't tend to get second chances like coaches. At the same time, there are only 32 of these jobs available and it's probably wise not to pass on it when opportunity is there.
  18. My Michigan fan Father In Law would lose his horsefeathers He he he he (who's got the laughing iguana meme??)
  19. I always assume that in a situation like that, 4th and 1 to close the game out, that the Head Coach is involved in the play call. They likely have four or five "go to" plays there, and to me the Head Coach should be the one deciding how the game turns out. I can see the "trust your coordinator" argument, maybe they are already aligned philosophically pre game, but if I'm Eberflus making that call I wouldn't make it by saying, "take your pick," I'd say something like "QB Sneak", "QB sweep", I mean they took a time out, so there is plenty of time for Getsy and Flus to discuss the play call. To me the play is on Eberflus more than Getsy
  20. I made the argument to another Bear fan in the office that Herbert's YPC was better than Montgomery's in no small part because Monty got the 3rd and 1 carries over Herbert. Other reasons too, but Monty definitely was the tough yardage guy
  21. Someone on Twitter posted the Bears Points versus their opponents PPG allowed On offense they were pretty close to the same for all three games On defense they were allowing WAY more than their opponenets PPG I think the intent of the post was to defend Fields' performance. It's got to be hard for a banged up defense of misfit toys to hold up when the O has so many 3 & outs, or similarly short drives. I find it amazing how nothing seems to be working on offense. Last year they could run the ball a little bit. I realize Fields put them at the top of the league and their run rate was really high overall. I'd prefer a more passing based offense, but at a certain point you've got to protect your defense, control the ball. I'm not sure they're good enough to run it right now but they're not running much.
  22. Hoge and Jahns were complaining about how bad the defense is after spending all that money, maybe they convinced people of this take. Referring to Edmunds, Edwards, Walker and Yannick - Edmunds was a top of market contract, but the others were shorter term/mid level deals, nothing exorbitant Maybe an explanation for their callers...
  23. Taking Wright is a result of punting on the 21-22 offseason (hat tip to Jersey here) They did nothing to fix the line that offseason outside of signing the awful Lucas Patrick while letting go of Daniels
  24. Ben Johnson is the hottest name on that list, I think. Tankathon has the Bears with #1 and #4 picks, taking Caleb WIlliams and Marvin Harrison, Jr. That'd be fun assuming they sign 8 new starters on the OL & DL horsefeathers this team for making me look at Tankathon already
