  1. Where's Hoops at?? Haven't seen him around for a while with his trade rumors.
  2. I doubt this deal happens, but if it does, I can see Hendry going after Mench or Kearns.
  3. The big problem w/ that is Cedeno won't start over Dusty's beloved Neifi & NY will probably hang onto Floyd. If such a deal does go down, the Cubs should look to deal for one of Tampa's 50 outfielders. Of course, TB will want to hang onto them all just like Cincinati.
  4. Unless he improves his BBs and Ks, we would have been better off keeping Corey Patterson. Considering that Tampa hasn't changed much despite having a new GM in terms of making impressive demands for their players, I'm sure they'd be asking for some ridiculous package. ??? Iirc Crawford's ops was 200 points better than CPatt last year. I do agree that TB would ask for something absurd.
  5. Who would they deal to get Gonzo? What does AZ need? He means Juan Gonzalez. I don't see there as any way the Cubs do this. First of all they already have three second basemen, and secondly after Hendry spent all off season talking about how he wants better defense sticking Soriano at second would make no sense. Soriano's the type of player Hendry likes & the Cubs really need a 5 hitter w/ power. Supposedly, the Cubs have been looking to move Walker all offseason. If it was Soriano for Walker I would believe it. Soriano for Murton does not solve Hendry's Walker "problem". If he could have traded him for a quality LF he would have done it already. They already have a quality LF. Murton's just not a 5 hitter like Soriano. My guess is they just dump Walker for prospects, if a Murton for Soriano deal happens.
  6. Just curious. Is Carl Crawford available??

  9. I was listening to 570 AM out of LA on the drive home and Lee Hacksaw Hamilton said there are rumors of a Murton for Soriano deal. Apparently, Frank Robinson & Sori will talk tomorrow about Sori playing LF. Sources say that Soriano will demand a trade if Robinson still wants him in LF. I guess the lineup would be CF - Pierre, LF - Hairston, 1b - Lee, 3b - Ramirez, 2b - Soriano, Rf - Jones, C - Barrett & SS - Neifi. I'm not too worried about Baker placing Jones & Soriano in the 2 spot. I think he'll want to use their power later in the order. If this deal happens is there any LF the Cubs could trade Walker for??
  10. might as well sticky this. if grissom makes the roster he'll give jones & pierre time off. mabry will probably give murton time off. murton >>>> dubois, btw
  11. Where does this rank amongst teams?? Am guessing top 8. Should have figured they wouldn't spend as much w/ Sosa off the payroll. They were basically playing w/ an $85 million or so roster last year.
  12. Weaver signed w/ a much better team & iirc his brother got drafted by Anaheim last year and could be up w/ the big club soon.
  13. A few teams would probably throw him a decent amount of money. My prediction is that Wood has a real good season this year. Since this is a contract year, he'll come to camp more serious.
  14. Either some writer's were dead wrong about Walker being moved or he has little trade value.
  15. Can't agree w/ NY's primary interest being to drive up the price so Boston couldn't get him. You'd have to show me some evidence for me to buy this. I think Giles basically used NY to get a more money out of SD.
  16. Lineup v lefties... Pierre Hairston Lee Ramirez Barrett or Murton Barrett or Murton Cedeno Neifi Neifi will start all 162.
  17. Who in this thread said that the cubs had no chance of getting Giles? .001 = chance
  18. And joining the Yankees would have meant switching leagues and playing CF. The Yankees seemed like they were only posturing Giles to drive up his price. They didn't seem all that serious about Giles, and defensively, it was probably a good idea that they didn't. Never said a word about 1 year. The going rate appeared to be 3 years for Giles. I'm just pointing out all the evidence that suggests Hendry wasn't all that interested in Giles. Evidence can be pointed out that Giles had no interest in playing for the Cubs. It's pretty much been beaten to death. Fact of the matter is, none of us really knows, but does that mean I should automatically assume that Giles had no interest in playing for the Cubs when there is plenty of evidence that suggests that, just maybe, Hendry had no interest in going after Giles? Because you do? I can respect your opinion on Giles availability. Why do you constantly question mine? Only posturing Giles to up his price?? I'm not following that??? The Cubs may have had lots of money this upcoming year, but what about years 2 & 3?? Hence why I questioned you..
  19. Hairston in RF. Hmmm
  20. Who had more money to spend on free agents this offseason than the Cubs? The Cubs had somewhere in upwards of 40m to spend. Would it have been in the best interest of Brian Giles and his agent to posture to get the best deal possible, but exclude the Cubs and all their cash to get that good deal? Not only did Hendry state he wouldn't get into a bidding war for Giles, but he also seemed more intent to settle the lead off spot than land a big bat. He also showed some concern about Giles age. Most everything lends towards Hendry not being interested than Giles not being interested. The Yankees always have more money available than anyone and Giles wasn't signing a 1 year deal.
  21. Probability of getting Giles - .001%. Make Mark Cuban owner 10%. Move the Cubs to Long Beach w/ Cuban as owner 35%. :o
  22. Dunn would be a great cleanup hitter, but can't see Cincy dealing him to a team within the division. They'd have to face him an awful lot.
  23. The offense was 23 runs out of 6th. Replacing Patterson with Pierre should make a huge difference, and help make this offense above average. People got all worked up cause Hendry hasn't built a roster that guarantees being a contender. Only 3-4 teams are guaranteed contenders though. The Cubs are in the next tier. Pick up someone like Abreu at the trade deadline & the Cubs are right there with the Yankees, Red Sox & Cards.
  24. The 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 spots in the lineup look good. The Cubs are really hurting @ 5 though. The Cubs are one move away from being serious contenders.
