  1. no so idealistic. yeah, and you're also an idiot. (Just saying what he actually means) can't take it when dusty ball works? anything will work sometimes. can't take it when you're called out on your thinly veiled spite for various members of the board? idealistic doesn't = spiteful. now idiot. hmmmm
  2. Jacque JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOnes. I like Mike Jones too. :) What about Davy Jones, Shirley Jones, or JOnes Soda? neither is nearly as talented as mike joones.

  5. no sac bunt. no run. that's about all pierre can do, and walker and aram didn't get hits.
  6. See, that is the problem. Repeated mental errors. The same repeated errors over and over again, year after year. Once or twice blame the players. Repeated errors blame Dusty. In addition, twice Dusty has left a young starter in too long. The first instance with Marshall, it didn't cost the Cubs a game. They went on to win 2-1. The second was last night. Hill should have never been out there for the 7th. Before that inning the game was still close. Those are just two examples. Here is a third, batting JJ ahead of Murton simply because he is left handed or something. I don't really know why. Dusty hasn't shaken up the batting order significanlty in during this entire loosing streak. Just for one game. If it were me I'd try this batting order and see what happens. Murton Walker Barrett Aramis Jones Cedeno Pierre Hairston/Neifi Pitcher EDIT: I posted this before reading Bruce's post. Thanks Bruce. why you want to leadoff the guy who's 2nd in rbis?
  7. Cedeno 1 & Pierre 2. Well the team needed a shake-up. This is a small one. Hope Juan gets back on track.
  8. Haven't you previously been one of the people that argued that Giles was a pipedream because he wasn't leaving San Diego? yes, and part of my argument was based on who currently owns the cubs. cuban would overpay and make BBB proud. :)
  9. I would like this trade, and your assumption is correct....15 years experience vs. 7 for Jones, so Dusty would probably view Conine as the better player. Not to mention, he's loves the really old guys the most. Dusty likens players to a fine wine, the older, the better. Conine would be as likely to fill-in for Murton as he would for Jones. just like grissom? ;) i think murton has really proven himself to dusty, so i doubt that.
  10. I did not know that. Well, he'd help with platoons I guess. But the Cubs also suck against RH pitchers. And is there any likelihood of facing a string of lefties like they did before (really, I don't know, I've blocked that time out and don't remember who it was). He'd be the equivalent of a LOOGY, Ohman but much older and with no upside and 5-6 times the cost. The pen's pretty solid from 1-4 and Rusch has looked good out of the pen, as well, so I think Ohman's expendable. Yes, he adds over a million in payroll, but I'm hoping the Trib will spend an additional $10 million and reach last year's ending payroll.
  11. the big problem w/ leading off murton is baker. i think he'd do this lineup before any of the proposed.. cedeno, walker, murton, aram, jones, barret, pierre and nef baker won't look at murton's .942 ops w/ risp, but he'll look at his 17 rbis, which is 2nd on the team.
  12. Going to steal a little of Fred's thunder here. :) Conine's 5 homers would tie him for 2nd on the team. His 1.139 ops versus lefties would sure help too.
  13. yeah, because the guy w/ speed is in a massive slump. get murton on w/ a single or walk and they need two base hits to get him in. good luck stringing those hits together, w/ this club. bat cedeno first instead and up the chances of getting someone across the plate. station to station baseball doesn't work w/ one power hitter. probably not even two. get three and probably. But Murton getting on base more and going station to station definitely outweighs Pierre rarely getting on base and maybe taking an extra base. I have no problem moving Pierre to 7th or 8th. I'd just prefer Cedeno leading off over Murton. Cedeno 1 & Murton 2 is fine w/ me. Murton & Walker 1 & 2 is even better. who's 3-4-5? aram, barrett and jones?
  14. I agree with you on wanting Cuban as the owner because he does what it takes to win. However, I don't think winning 10 or so more games a season would really increase the value of the Cubs much more than it is or much more than it would cost to do it. The value of the Cubs is so high because they have a gauranteed profit every year from the ticket sales, etc. If sales are already close to maxed out, where is the potential for more profit by winning and paying to do so on top of that? well, they could asked for more in ticket prices, if they win more. perhaps get a better tv deal. (not sure about this) sell more merchandise. win a few titles and this franchise isn't known as "the loveable losers." that might help increase value some. also, cuban gets more exposure as cub owner, which helps him w/ his movie & tv projects.
  15. Now if the Cubs had Cuban as owner, Giles would probably be patrolling rf. Cuban seems like a guy who looks at the long-term and increasing the value of his team. He doesn't care if he loses $10 million in one year, cause he'll get that money back and thensome later on.

  18. Dear Prior, get back on the roids.
  19. A Todd Walker double mixed with some single's for an OBP of .350+ is far better in the lead off spot than Juan Pierre's rare single's and stolen bases to the tune of a sub .300 OBP. Granted, it would be nice if Walker had Cedeno type speed, but I'd sacrifice the speed for better OBP. without lee, gotta keep walker batting 3rd now. he's one of the few guys w/ some power. if lee's back, sure i'd take walker batting leadoff cause sub 300 obp is awful, but gotta manufacture some runs w/out lee and cedeno's better served for that. if the skid gets to 10, shake it up & go w/ cedeno, murton, walker, aram, barrett, jones, pierre, nef... when lee returns, I still go w/ that top 3 and bat lee and aram 4 & 5. at least they'll have guys on.
  20. While I'm not completely opposed to Nevin, I'm not a big fan of bringing in someone who can only play 1b. Nevin is horrible anywhere else defensively. What good is a guy who can only pinch hit once the regular is back to play everyday? I know you probably follow the Padres a lot closer than me. (I follow the Angels pretty close.) I saw on ESPN that Nevin's played some rf in the last few years. Has his defense just become horrible? I guess they could always put Murton in RF and hide Nevin in LF versue lefties.
  21. The rumor is he has Alzheimer's. If so, that sucks. I have an uncle w/ alzheimer's. It's a sad way to go, as some people think it's really funny.
  22. Todd Walker would have been a fine leadoff guy. Leadoff man was only a weakness when Dusty would bat Corey leadoff. Murton too. the more i think about this, the more it makes sense. murton's SLG is really low for a lower-half of the order guy... his .370ish OBP would look nice in the leadoff spot bat him 2nd. the cubs need some speed batting #1. cedeno can do that. a team that gets few extra base hit isn't going to score many runs playing station to station ball.
  23. Alright, package Pierre, Rusch & JWilliams for Nevin & a filler. Pretty much a wash in payroll, and TX could use Rusch. Call up Pie and start Nevin @ 1b. See how it goes from there. Can always use Nevin in a platoon & off the bench. His number are good against lefties.
  24. I heard Patrick and Olberman recently discussing that Steinbrenner is being shielded from the media. They basically implied that he might have some form of dementia. He's getting up there in age. Iirc he's in his mid-70's.
