  1. murton probably studies these every night too. http://www.dustybaker.com/booksvideos.html
  2. Think Fred missed this: Jamey Wright has not lost to the Cubs since May 9, 2001, when he was with Milwaukee, going 3-0 with a 2.78 ERA in five starts. Could be a long day for the offense, especially w/ Mabry batting 5th & Murton 8th. Great lineup Dusty!
  3. no kidding. he was a pretty big guy coming out of usc.
  4. no http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b58/sethuel1/rejected_sweet_jesus.gifI'm losing control of myself. Seth, this dude is gonna make Tim happy, because I'm gonna send some money to put this dude on ignore. No lie. Quite frankly, I don't see why this is so offensive?
  5. no all they needed was a sac fly or grounder to get him in. with z on the mound, they only needed 2 runs. they were half way there already.
  6. nothing wrong w/ having pierre bunting given his recent stretch of horrendous hitting. if anyone's going to bunt, it's him. that's a tough play for the defence. bunting guys like walker and murton isn't wise tho. let them swing away. now if it's a late game situation, maybe have them bunt. good call by dusty on the pierre bunt. he was correct for a change.
  7. he'll go the distance. $20 :) Since they just showed him giving high 5's in the clubhouse, I'll take it!!! :D where do i send the check? :( dusty had to get neifi in there.
  8. And the funny thing is, I will only stick to my guns until someone can poke holes in the logic surrounding their decision. The holes have been poked, your refusal to acknowledge that doesn't mean they don't exist. I've read the responses. I haven't seen it. I am more than willing to have you help me see it. All I have read to date is a restating of the same argument that I previously addressed and, I believe, effectively countered with the logic and facts I have put forth. No one has shown that being 4 games back with two months to play was too big of a deficit and the Cubs were foolish to try to overcome it. No one has shown that the potential harm of missing Wood for a month this season is any greater than a few wins. No one has shown that it was completely knowable that Matt Lawton would fail as much as he did as a lead-off hitter. No one has chosen the hypothetical, yet basically equal, option of voluntarily sitting Howry this season if the Cubs find themselves 4 games out of the wildcard on July 31st. And no one has shown why not shutting Wood down last season put Kerry's health in more danger than it already was. That's what poking holes in my argument would look like. Wouldn't it? But no one has done any of that. All we have here is the difference of point of view. Some fans looked at the Cubs chances on July 31st from a more pessimistic view and saw little to no chance of the Cubs coming back, and thus, the decision to gamble with Wood was utterly pointless. I completely understand this point of view. If I shared in their pessimism, I would agree completely. But I don't. I know that it wasn't a high percentage play, but I also know that strange and unexpected things happen quite often in baseball. Injuries occur. Fortunes turn on a dime. The moderately pessimistic view of the Cubs chances on July 31st didn't allow for those possibilities, but I'm glad that Hendry's and Baker's view did. I still would have shelved Wood earlier than they did, but not at the beginning of August. No way. they were only 4 back?? i thought it was more? if so, there's just no way you can tell competitors like lee, walker, nomar, aram, maddux, z, prior & dempster that you're shutting down a guy who could dominate out of the pen.
  9. wow. clippers are winning by 14 @ half and the cubs are up 7. full moon tonight.
  10. an abysmal 14 rbis now. Glass half full? just being objective. i haven't crawled to the ledge.
  11. does juan remember how to run the bases? been a while.
  12. .875 ops v. righties coming into tonight. iirc under. 200 v. lefties. he's 1 for 18.
  13. Jones ops vs. righties should go over .900 tonight. He should never face a lefty the remainder of the season.
  14. 67 Pitches in 4 innings. Hope Howry's ready tonight.
  15. Well Z, you have your runs. If you want to be recognized as a top of the line pitcher, win this.
