  1. donate your $12 million to Cubs fans Kerry. bum.
  2. That sure is a lot to give up for someone who has not done anything in the majors and really hasn't been overwhelmingly impressive in the minors yet, isn't it? He's put up good numbers, but a package of Maddux, Williamson, and Hill better bring more than just Joel Guzman. jmo but maddux & williamson aren't that valuable. maddux may retire after this season, and his era is near 5. williamson is injury prone. Hill isn't near the prospect that Guzman is.
  3. maddux, williamson & hill for guzman.. maddux is a rental and not good any more. williamson gives LA pen depth. hill gives LA a starting option next year. sele, tomko and perez as starters is kinda of a joke. of course, LA's probably not a good place for hill either. the media will jump all over him if he struggles. cubs can put guzman @ SS and put cedeno @ 2b or look to deal cedeno elsewhere.
  4. I'm not sure. A lot will depend on the perceived value at the time of the deadline. I know we couldn't get Billingsly, but I wouldn't mind Joel Guzman or Andre Ethier. hmmm guzman. they're set w/ furcal @ SS and LaRoche is ranked ahead of guzman by Baseball America. He may be expendable. perhaps howry & maddux could get that done. I wouldn't do Howry for Guzman even if Maddux wasn't included. To me, Howry and Eyre are extremely valuable as they are signed beyon this season. Other than Maddux, what pitchers are likely to be available? Livian Hernandez...maybe. If my assessment of the buyers and sellers is correct, the remaining teams don't really have vets approaching FA that would interest a lot of teams. For that reason, the Cubs have a chance to get a nice player from a team that needs another arm. While there should be some interest in Howry and Eyre, I'd hold them up for a very top prospect. They have proven they can get valuable outs late in the game. They are under team-control for 2007-2008 and the Cubs are under no financial constraints. If the Dodgers want Maddux AND Howry, the cost should be nothing less than Billingsly unless they want to give up Guzman and Blake DeWitt. true, maddux may be the best available. no one likes to deal pitching. i'd hate to see howry or eyre go and agree w/ your assessment, but the dodgers have been pretty reluctant to deal off prospects. perhaps things have changed some w/ coletti in charge now.
  5. Cubs rotation as of March 2007 ~ Z, Prior, Mulder, Marshall and Guzman. On April 2, 2007, Prior & Guzman are placed on the 15-day DL.

  7. what could maddux & williamson net from the dodgers?? gagne's & their rotation is shaky.
  8. I'll give you last year, but they were in it in 2004 and he made a really good trade. Actually, Lawton was the best pickup in 2005. Shows how little was traded in 05.
  9. Good post vance. Didn't realize Ellis was out in Oakland. That gives the Cubs another option although i'd like to see walker & rusch packaged to the mets. Hoops, the talk in anaheim is that they want a big time difference maker and are willing to deal ervan santana & some of their stud prospects. if ramirez is going anywhere, i hope it's to anaheim.
  10. Seriously, has Hendry made any decent moves being in the seller position in previous years? I can't recall that there have been any good ones. I seem to recall him moving Flash to Houston a few years ago for a couple of Houston A ball pitchers, but I don't believe any of them panned out for us. I suppose there may have been other moves too, but I'm not that confident he'll be able to get the right prospect back in deal right now. the cubs haven't been sellers for a while. iirc hendry's pulled off the best deadline deals the past 3 years. (lawton 05, nomar/murton - 04, aram/lofton -03) unfortunately, lawton forgot how to get on base like he did in pittsburgh.
  11. they still have about $140 million of payroll playing tho right? a better comparison to the cubs is st. louis w/out pujols. And you know the Boss is already searching for a replacement. iirc matsui's been out for a while and they haven't pulled off a big deal yet. if st. louis or ny pull off a huge deal in the next few weeks, then hendry should be ripped for his ability to bring in a hitter.
  12. they still have about $140 million of payroll playing tho right? a better comparison to the cubs is st. louis w/out pujols.
  13. cubs are using a dh?
  14. should have got millwood. someone fire the trib.
  15. if it wasn't for hbo, i'd cancel my cable!
  16. Hall can play multiple positions and would make for an ideal guy off the bench. Amazing that the Brew Crew would consider bench depth as a need and the Cubs consider it unnecessary. Bill Hall or Neifi Perez. Such a tough choice. Not! I'm going to take a wild guess that Bill Hall doesn't make half what Neifi Perez makes. [-( 400k. he hasn't tested free agency yet tho.
  17. If they're sellers, Walker's gone for sure. I mean they have Neifi & Womack as backups, so they're set in Dusty's "mind." The Mets are a perfect fit for Walker. Pierre's probably going somewhere and they'll bring up Pie. They'll look to deal Maddux. Tough to tell what Maddux will want, as he has a NTC. Since he's near the end, I expect he'd want to finish up in a pennant race. Jmo but Rusch gets packaged w/ either Maddux or Walker. Williamson's probably dealt. I think they'll hang onto Wood, cause first they have no ballz. Second they'll want to see if he's worthy of resigning. They'll have to get one heck of an offer for Ramirez, and Hendry will hang onto Howry, Dempster & Eyre.
  18. I don't believe he is on the block. I have just noticed from other boards that there has been talk like he is. Fans think that he doesn't have a place with the Brewers, but he actually is very valuable. But, I have seen ridiculous trade proposals, like Hall and cash for Lohse from Minnesota. Makes me sick. oh. you guys need pitching right? I'd love to have hall and would give up hill & cedeno. (this will probably get me torched).
  19. yes. ozzie would light a fire under the cubs' butts. baker's usefulness has ran it's course. they aren't listening to him.
  20. Too bad the Cubs have the worse hitting & starting pitching in the NL. Cincy's not going to keep this up. That rotation will implode soon & Griffey's due for a long stay on the DL any day now. Griffey's like Cincinati's Kerry Wood. St. Louis has 3 starters with ERA's near 5. Carpenter's had back problems and Fat Sid is their second best pitcher. Pujols missing 6 weeks makes them a barely better than the Cubs now. Maybe Houston gets hot.... Who knows. Doesn't look like Milwaukee has much. IF only Lee, Ramirez, Wood & Prior were back. :x
  21. pretty impulsive move. just package him w/ someone like walker or ramirez at the deadline to a big market team.
  22. toine 7-19 w/ 6 turnovers. good job by dallas on shaq. just keep the ball in toine's hands, not shaq's.
  23. flip saunders
  24. tagliabue >>>>> selig???
  25. why is he on the block? looks like a real good player for the money? you can have hill. :)
