  1. Yes of course they'd do it. They're saving a bunch of money, getting a major upgrade at 2B and getting a cheap LF who has been very productive this year and losing the distraction of Manny. The problem is making it work for the Cubs and Rangers. How do you propose we land Soriano and Delluci? Make Boston take Remlinger to save some money. Perhaps get some money from Boston over the next 3 years. Oh and deal Wood, who will be $12 million of dead weight next year.
  2. Who's the best pitching prospect after Hill?? Guzman's hurt too often, so doubt he has much value. I'd send that prospect to Texas, along w/ Patterson and Rusch. Boston can send TX the great Bellhorn.
  3. The Cubs need a 6 hitter and #3 pitcher. Can't start selling when they're 3 behind Houston, w/ 10 games left against them.
  4. I've been chatting on a Boston board some and seems they'd be happy w/ Soriano & Delucci for Manny. Sounds like they're sick of Manny and they'd improve their 2b ops by nearly 200 points. If the Cubs could get Manny, I'd be cool w/ sending almost any prospect not named Pie to Texas.
  5. If he looks healthy in spring training, some team will take him w/out the Cubs having to pay any of his salary. I'm just sick of him breaking down 2-3 times per year. Find another sucker.
  6. Most likely he's gone after 2006, so Kerry's wife better find a new city to love asap. Trade him. He's a waste of money.
  7. Would Theo have interest in Soriano?? Delucci, Soriano, Murton, Remlinger to Boston Manny to Chicago Patterson, Rusch and Cub pitching prospect to TX So we're giving up Patterson, Murton, Remlinger, Rusch and a prospect just for Manny? They bettter be paying about half of his remaining contract then. Plus Texas is giving up Delluci and Soriano but only getting Patterson, Rusch and a pitching prospect in return? That seems low. Boston is making out like bandits in that deal while the other two teams are getting fleeced. Manny's a superstar.
  8. Would Theo have interest in Soriano?? Delucci, Soriano, Murton, Remlinger to Boston Manny to Chicago Patterson, Rusch and Cub pitching prospect Hope Boston has to give up a lot more than that and the Cubs less. That's a 5-for-1 to get Manny, while Boston gets 4-for-1 for him. I don't really count Remlinger as a player. Maybe the Cubs can hang onto Murton. Although I see no spot for him w/ Manny aboard.
  9. I hope this happens. Wood's just taking up salary space.
  10. Would Theo have interest in Soriano?? Delucci, Soriano, Murton, Remlinger to Boston Manny to Chicago Patterson, Rusch and Cub pitching prospect to TX
  11. I never really understood this logic. I believe a hitter should take a walk no matter where they are hitting in the lineup. Even in the 8 hole, the hitter should be patient and take a walk to bring the pitcher up, so you can then lead off the next inning with the top of the order. It isn't so much an OBP factor as it is patience. Every hitter should be patient and work the count until they see a pitch to hit, and Soriano doesn't do that. What's his P/PA? Perhaps the logic is that the 7-9 hitters usually aren't very good. If the Cubs had the Yankees money, maybe they could get profilic hitters and walkers at every spot in the order. I'd much rather have Soriano than Hee Sop Choi at the 6th spot.
  12. I highly doubt Soriano would move to LF, but if he did the lineup would be pretty potent w/ Hairston, Walker, Lee, Burnitz, ARam, Soriano, Nomah & Barrett. I'm sure the 150 point jump at the 6 spot would lead to quite a few more runs, and I'm not too concerned w/ obp after 1-5. Can't have everything. As for Floyd, that would be a sweet pickup too. Could move Floyd to 4th and Burnitz to 6th.
  13. What do you think he's worth?? Of the remaining 60 games, 31 are at home. 7 at Houston. 3 at Colorado. 3 at Milwaukee. 3 at Pitt. 3 at Philly. 3 at NY. 4 at SF. 3 at StL. I'm not sure if Pittsburgh or SF are hitter's parks now, but it looks like nearly 75% of the games will be in hitter's park. I don't think his poor road splits will be too big of factor. They can always deal him in the offseason too.
  14. Houston's the team to beat for the wildcard and the Cubs have 7 more games in Houston. I'd sure like to have Soriano for those games.
  15. I think that Mitre would be a similar player to the likes of Heilman - they both have a limited amount of ML experience over the past 3 years (Heilman with a little more starting experience as the Cubs have used Mitre out of the pen quite a bit), both show promise, but to this point have consistantly high ERA's and have not put it all together. Im not completely sure what kind of pitcher Petit projects to be, although I cant think that we don't have someone of equivelance in our plethora of pitching in the minors. Possibly send them Rusch and Mitre even? As for Dellucci, I dont think he's anything near a long term help for this team. As a 31 yr old journeyman who has put together 1 decent season, I dont see him as anything this team would want or need. He'd be another Holly, Grieve, Neifi, etc... a decent player off the bench but not someone who's going to make an impact in a starting role for years to come. We do not need anymore good bench players clogging our starting lineup. I'd like Dellucci's .400 obp in front of Lee, and he's only signed for 1 more year, and he's not an expensive player. Also, on the topic of Dellucci being a journeyman with a decent season. Dellucci had laser eye surgery that he credits his improvement this year. He's right around his career AVG and SLG, but his improved vision has lead to many more walks, making him more valuable. I'd definitely take him. Soriano, on the other hand, I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole because of his road production, salary, and player cost. He had .860 road ops from 2002-2004. Perhaps if you didn't have such a bias, you'd point to this and the fact that he plays in some pitcher parks in the AL West. My guess is that he'd do pretty good in Cincy, Houston and Wrigley. Milwaukee's a hitter's park too right??

  17. From an article @ the Jersey Star Ledger refering to the Mets and Rangers working out a deal for Soriano. If the Rangers are wanting 1 ML ready pitcher and 1 good Prospect, we could easily assemble something along those lines to make a deal happen. I like the idea of plugging Soriano into 2nd Base and using walker in LF or even as a ph off the bench and knocking Neifi down on the depth chart a little bit. I have a hard time seeing the Cubs make a major move for an OF bat that will be helpful for the future unless it's a player that could shift to RF after Burnitz leaves. It seems as though the Cubs may be content with Murton in LF for the future, and Pie seems to be the CF answer of the future, leaving only RF open for any kind of trade that would be for an impact player for the following few years. In addition, I'm still hopeful that C-Pat turns it around at some point. If this is the case, we could possibly be looking at a 2006 OF of Murton (LF), Pie (CF), and Patterson (RF). I think that a future OF of that makes the addition of a guy like Soriano at 2B a huge addition. 2B seems to be one of the only positions on this team that we do not have any major pieces fitting for the future few years. Soriano could fill that space well. How 'bout a lineup like this for 2006? Pie Murton Lee Aram Soriano Cedeno/Nomar? Patterson Barrett Pitcher What Cub pitchers are comparable to those Met pitchers?? I'd like to see something like Patterson, Walker, Rusch and a prospect for Soriano and Delucci... Lineup: Hairston Dellucci/Murton Lee Burnitz ARam Soriano Nomar Barrett Can always switch Dellucci and Nomar too. As for next year, sign Giles and have.. Hairston Dellucci/Murton Giles Lee ARam Soriano Cedeno Barrett I'd like to see Murton play everyday, but given the manager, can only hope for a platoon.
  18. How would the defense be w/ Walker in LF and Hairston and CF?? I'd rather see Patterson brought up and go w/ Hairston in LF and Patterson in CF. Use Walker to get Soriano. Walker's probably due to breakdown any day now anyway.
  19. I'm sorry but I have to disagree. One of the last places in the lineup you need walks out of is the 6th spot. The sixth spot needs to drive in your sluggers after they get on base with the base hits and doubles. If they walk, odds are the leadoff man isn't going to have a chance to drive them in - so you have to depend on your two worst hitters and your pitcher to drive Mr. 6 in. Walks are wasted in the 6,7 and 8 spots. However the 8 hitter needs to be patient enough to wait for his pitch or else get pitched around (ala Barrett) resulting in more walks. The only place you 'need' to get walks from is the 1 and 2 hitters in your lineup - anywhere else is a bonus. Well I like walks from 3, 4, 5 too. Those are suppose to be the guys you pay big money too to do everything. However, with Hollandsworth and Barrett at 7 and 8, I want someone who's going to hit for power at 6, and not allow Hollandsworth to continue to strand runners. But isn't that what Soriano does? He's capable of 40-50 doubles and 30-40 homeruns. He's a power hitter. Yes. I'd like to get him. My first post was in regard to those who hate Soriano.

  21. Look at his splits, THAT is why the board would melt down. His slugging is nice, yes. But he doesnt do jack crap outside of texas. SPLIT AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS Home 205 39 66 17 1 18 48 10 1 33 6 2 .322 .353 .678 1.031 Away 192 30 46 10 0 7 20 8 2 46 8 0 .240 .276 .401 .677 Im not good at getting Code to work, but thats kinda decent i guess.... ANyways, Look at the difference. There is a .3 point diffence in his OPS. And his SLG that you speak of is .401 away..... Small sample size. :D It's just one of those years. His 3 year split from 2002-2004 away from home is .534.
  22. If the Cubs get Soriano, this board will meltdown. You need walks at the 6 spot, not a 540 slg%. :) Hairston, Nomar, Lee, Burnitz, ARam, Soriano, Holla/Murton and Barrett :D
  23. Well this will get torn up but here goes.... :) Anaheim deals Donnelly, McPherson and another good prospect.. Anaheim gets Burnett, Patterson, Rusch.. Florida deals Burnett, Pierre and Encarnacion. Florida gets McPherson, Hairston, Mitre, Cub reliever, & Anaheim prospect. Cubs deal Patterson, Rusch, Mitre, Hairston, and reliever Cubs get Pierre, Encarnacion & Donnelly I think Anaheim saved up some money for the deadline and I think they aren't as high on McPherson and would have no problem w/ Figgins at 3rd for a while. Patterson solidifies their d, and they can go for it all w/ Burnett. Florida folds the tent and deals guys who are probably gone anyway after this year, and get some prospects... Who knows.. Maybe Hairston provides a sparkplug. I have no idea what they do w/ Lowell.. Cubs get some "Dusty guys" and improve the pen. Lineup ~ Pierre, Nomar, Lee, Burnitz, ARam, Walker, Encarnacion and Barrett. Not bad.
  24. Donnelly was the first thing that popped into my mind when the Angels were brought up. Some how I dont think we would be able to get Brandon Wood :D With K-Rod healthy moving Shields into the set up role, Donnelly is back to the 7th inning and less valuable. That would be a big improvement for this year as well as the future. We've seen how effective and intimidating the Lidge/Dotel/Wagner can be in the NL central, and how pathetic our bullpen has been this year. With Williamson/Donnelly/Dempster being supported by Wood, Wuertz, and Novoa that would be a studly pen (and I guess Remmy if Baker wants to go with 12 pitchers). Send Mitre down to AAA to get steady work and be ready to come up should Hill falter. Send Rusch along with Patterson to the Angels, maybe throw in a pitching prospects for one of their position prospects. I guess depending how good we give up we might be able to get someone decent. Nick Gourneault looks interesting, pretty similar numbers to Dubois but isn't one of their highly sought after prospects. Since relievers are had to come by we will have to overpay but Donnelly is some one who can turn be a stud set up man in the NL for years to come(and specificallyu in Wrigley, IIRC hes a ground ball pitcher). And if we can get another Dubois, who hasn't even used one year of options yet, bonus. Anaheim could use a lefty like Rusch. I'd want another everyday player though, if Patterson and Rusch are moving. Patterson is one of Hendry's best trading pieces.
