  1. Has Lee ever played LF?? He's a pretty good athlete, so I'd guess he's played the outfield some.
  2. If the hold up on Dunn is Dopriak, I'll be quite disappointed. Seems 1b will be filled for a long time. Perhaps they move Lee to LF. :)
  3. Give him $500k plus incentives. He hasn't earned a penny this year and should accept such a deal as payback.
  4. Jerome Williams, Hill, Dope, CPatt and DuBois for Milton and Dunn... The Reds get 3 major leaguers and two prospects w/ big upside. Perhaps Milton could turn things around in Chicago. Tear it apart now. :D
  5. Don't deal off Pie. Deal off Dope & Guzman.
  6. The Cubs need to find a third team to make a deal w/ Dunn work. Sounds like the Dodgers have more pitching depth to deal. However, it doesn't sound as if Edwin Jackson is nealry as well thought of now, as he's really struggled this season. Anaheim could use Patterson and Rusch and is loaded w/ prospects, so perhaps they can help the Cubs out.
  7. Nomar is basically worthless to us. I don't think he does anything this year. Maddux would be a salary dump. We'd basically just be taking him off the books for next year, after accounting for the money we include. Then it's Patterson, Rusch, Dubois, and Dope for Dunn. You wouldn't do that? Thank you. Nomar may not come back this year and isn't worth signing next year. Maddux is a salary killer for 06. I'd rather spend that $6-9 million elsewhere. Like you said, it's essentially Dope (great prospect but we already have Lee), DuBois (he'll never get a shot in Chi. and is nothing special anyway), Patterson (probably needs a change of scenery), and Rusch (alright pitcher), for Dunn.
  8. Hopefully we can get Dunn by July 31st. Sounds like if Dunn does hit free agency, he'll want to go to a Texas team.
  9. Pay the remainder of Nomar's salary and I think an American League team may bite. They can always DH him. Perhaps this could help get us Dunn.. Nomar, Patterson, Maddux, Rusch, and $5 million to Anaheim... Dunn to Chicago Angel prospects (take your pick, they're loaded), DuBois and Dopriak to Cincy... Finley, Cabrera and Escobar are all having injury problems, so Anaheim needs the insurance, and they're pretty weak at DH. Also, this saves the Cubs about $15 million for next year.
  10. Pitcher ~ Move Maddux, start Williams & a rookie. Save about $6-7 million, I guess. RF - Get Giles for 3 years and $30 mil. Ideal Trib signee. Not too expensive. Lf - Trade for Dunn.... Perhaps use Patterson in a three way deal to pull it off. Add $4-8 million. (I'm guessing Dunn will make about $8 million next year). SS. Go w/ Cedeno. Let Nomar walk. Some crazy team will offer him $5 million. He can always DH in the AL. 2b. Go w/ Hairston. Closer ~ Dempster
  11. Along w/ not reading newspapers or message boards, Baker must not read stats either. Patterson's leadoff obp = .268, Hairston's = .384. Just a little factoid to ponder, Patterson has a .859 ops batting 7th. Perhaps some reporter can throw this at Baker.
  12. Just have to hope for Washington to come back to earth and to collapse. Atlanta always finds a way to win, so you can pencil them into the playoff again. Every other team ahead of the Cubs isn't that good. I think the first move needed is obvious. The second move is to trade for Dunn. The Cubs need a firing and impact player.
  13. Vance, with the Cubs pitching and money available in the offseason, they can rebuild and contend next year. This team needs one more big bat and a manager who knows whom to bat 1-2, and a manager who gives young guys like Cedeno and DuBois a shot, instead of squashing them.
  14. Hendry's done an above average job. Lets remember that he's the guy who swung the deals for Ramirez and Lee. A lot of people were quite peeved about the Lee trade, but in retrospect, the Cubs would be 15 under w/ Choi hitting .220 at 1b. Hendry's not the guy who sent Prior and Wood out for 140 pitches in 2003. Hendry's not the guy managing the uber-talented Patterson into the ground. Yes, some of Hendry's moves haven't panned out (Maddux, Nomar & Hawkins) and if hindsight was 20-20, Alou & Clement would still be Cubs, but overall he's built a nice roster of talent. Baker's the one who's not utilizing the talent properly.
  15. Kerry Wood to San Diego for Josh Barfield and X. Nady. Barfield's supposed to be real good right??
  16. There's nothing rare about Kerry Wood anymore. He's hurt too often and isn't that spectacular when healthy.
  17. First I'm skeptical he returns this year, but if he does.... What could the Cubs get from a contender, if they ate his salary?? Jmo but I think Nomar brought the Boston curse w/ him.
  18. Kerry Wood needs to relocate on the West Coast along w/ Greg Maddux.
  19. People can throw all the stats out there that they want, but the team has fallen apart and it doesn't help when the manager's clueless. I think Hendry is trying to address the collapse by demoting a few guys, and hopefully that's just the beginning.
  20. Nomar's too injury prone. The Cubs already have enough money invested in an injury prone player, Wood. Just go w/ Cedeno.
  21. The Cubs need to add power in left and rightfield. First thing is go out and get Dunn and use Maddux as a piece to get a good prospect for Cincy. Something like Maddux, Walker, Rusch, Hollandworth and $2-3 million for X. Nady and Burroughs. Send Nady to Cincy along w/ DuBois, Dopriak and a pitching prospect or two for Dunn. In the offseason ante up for Giles. If they keep Patterson, that's cool. Perhaps he can get back on track if Baker's gone and he bats 7th and isn't jerked around in the lineup. Roster ~ 1b. Lee, 2b. Hairston???, SS. Cedeno, 3b. Ramirez, LF. Dunn, CF. Patterson??, RF. Giles, C. Barrett Starters ~ Wood, Prior, Z, Williams and ?????
  22. Now even the mainstream media, not just Baseball America and the Moneyball geeks, are exposing Baker as a fraud. Heck of a run for Baker though. Guess anybody can win when organizations shell out the money.
  23. The vultures are starting to finally circle. Hopefully Baker's on his last leg. Patterson should have been left in the 6th or 7th spot. At least he can provide some power. I hope Baker isn't around to ruin Felix Pie by jerking him around from 6th in the order, to 4th, then to 1st, then to 3rd, then back to 6th. Oh and good point about Dempster suppose to being the closer at the beginning of the year. Dusty needs to do something about his bi-polar problem.
  24. So Patterson goes from leadoff to the minors. Amazing. Can Baker be sent to the minors too??
  25. Buy & sell. Priority #1 get Adam Dunn.
