  1. Walker, Maddux and $2 million for Burroughs. SD fans are down on Burroughs, but he had lots of potential.
  2. How many losses in a row do the Cubs need in order for Baker to get canned?? Please let the answer be 7!
  3. Maddux by a landslide. After that the one the Cubs let get away. Just Cub luck. Fwiw Prior and Wood will be lucky to win 150 each, especially if they stick w/ the Cubs. Both are injured often and both get little offensive support.
  4. Won't Pie be ready by 2006?? I think the money should be spent on LF and RF. Sorry all DuBois lovers.
  5. My memory isn't that great. Did Little have either Foulke or Schilling?
  6. I would say, if you think keeping Dusty Baker is the answer, you're twice as delusional. Replacing Dusty is one of many answers. He's the wrong manager for the wrong team. I said it before he was hired and I haven't seen anything resembling evidence to the contrary. Just for the sake of argument, what is the type of team that Baker should coach? Is there a way to agument this team to fit him? The Cardinals. He'd bat Grudz and Molina ahead of Pujols and put Eckstein in the 6th spot. Also, he'd let Mulder, Carpenter and Morris go 130-140 pitches ala 2003 w/ Prior, Z and Wood.
  7. And dubois won't start any of the games. Whats the over under on at bats for Dubois for the double header? 3? *HAPPY THOUGHT* I did like the double header in 2003 when the cubs clinched though!!! 2 AB's for DuBois. 1 AB for Cedeno. Heck I'm not even sure if Cedeno's still on the roster. 9 AB's for Neifi.
  8. The current roster can make the wildcard, if used properly. If they want to win it all, they'll have to make some trades. My guess is that most managers would have Hairston and Walker batting ahead of Lee, which helps solve problem #1, lack of runs.... Apparently, Baker doesn't like Hairston. I recall reading that Hairston's kind of a knucklehead so not a surprise. Since Baker won't give Hairston much of a shot, and since the Trib probably doesn't have the cajones to can Baker, Hendry should look to deal Hairston. Hairston probably has some good value.
  9. Baker's going to trot out a couple insane lineups today. Watch ARam get rested in one game and Macias start both games. If Lee was healthy, he'd definitely be rested in the game Prior pitches. Never fails. Bigger leaguers can't handle 2 days in one day. Only ironmen like Macias and Neifi can handle 2 games.
  10. Andy Gammons must have got that from his Red Sox source. No way Pie would be up.
  11. Good question. Perhaps too much "good ol boy network." Howard Cossell may blame it on the JOCKTOCRACY OF PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT.
  12. I'm sure Baker saying Patterson is another Lou Brock has no influence at all. I don't see Bobby Cox trying to make Andruw Jones into a 1 or 2 hitter.
  13. Nope. Feel free to blame many things on Baker, but Patterson isn't one of them. Patterson's problem is Patterson. He hasn't listened effectively to any coach, and hasn't made many positive adjustments in 2 years. Sure there is this clash of want between Baker and Patterson regarding where he hits in the lineup, but that falls on Patterson's shoulders. It is irritating to hear a player as young as he, without the credentials, staking his claim to a particular spot in the lineup. It further shows he does not listen. Patterson doesn't pencil himself in as leadoff hitter. It's Baker. Baker should know better.
  14. For what it's worth, after the Latroy trade went down, Levine said that Hendry had talked to the Mets and the Marlins about a bigger trade that would have included Latroy and other Cubs players or prospects. Rather than do a bigger deal, Hendry decided on Williams and Aardsma. I'm just guessing, but I'd think a deal with the Mets would have included Looper and Floyd or Cameron. A Marlins deal might have included Encarnacion or Conine (ugh) and Mota or Jones. Is Cliff Floyd still available?? I doubt it given the Mets inability to score runs and Floyd's big numbers. Still wish the Cubs could have got Floyd instead of Hairston. Hairston's had a nice year, but Baker doesn't use him right. At least w/ Floyd, Baker would bat him where he should be, 4th.
  15. goony & his thinkpad > dusty
  16. I always wanted to join an online country club. :)
  17. When Washington says, "we think we can turn Patterson around..." perhaps it means "we don't have Baker ruining him."
  18. The only way the Cubs win w/ Baker is if the Trib gives him a $150 million budget. 2 1/2 years is enough of this guy. You could give 75% of the members on this board a $100 million payroll and they could probably go 40-42. 90% could probably figure out you don't bat Neifi and Patterson before the NL's 1st half MVP.
  19. Thats a good reason. Only Baker could find a way to waste the NL's 1st half MVP. Amazing!
  20. This team needs a serious kick in the rearend and firing their "leader" could be it. The Cubs have plenty of talent and adding more talent will be nice, but w/ Baker managing, the talent will go to waste. If the Trib's willing to eat the majority of Sosa's deal, Baker's should be no problem. Baker's more of a problem than Sosa. End of rant..
  21. Roast and Erik, I have no idea on what teams Hendry is in discussions with regarding Patterson, but one of my sources did indicate that Corey was being discussed as a package with pitching. Can't shed any light beyond this. Hoops No sweat. Thanks for the info, though. It'll be interesting to see if anyone bites and what we get for Corey if he does get traded. In a pure scenery change for scenery change deal, could you see Patterson being dealt to San Diego for Sean Burroughs? I doubt Patterson would start over Dave Roberts. How about Maddux and Patterson for Nady and Burroughs?? Burroughs has potential.
  22. Hopefully Brian Giles is in rf next year. He's an ideal Trib signee. A little past his prime, so he won't sign a long term expensive deal. Baker may not like him cause he's on base too much.
  23. If Boone goes back on the roids, sure.
  24. Seems Burrell's the guy they'd dangle. He's due lots of money from 06-08 and his stats haven't been spectacular. Jmo but the Cubs should take a chance on him. His .900 ops would look nice in lf. Get SF involved and send Patterson and Schmidt to Philly.
  25. The Cubs find ways to lose games. Point the finger at the manager.
