  1. Baker's ruining a once very promising group. He let the starters go too long, which lead to injury. He doesn't develop any of the young players and he can't decide on a lineup or put the best on-base guys at the top of the order. If Baker is fired, this organization will win alot more games. Keep Baker around and the Trib will need to shell out $200 million for a winner.
  2. By moving Maddux the Cubs save $6-9 million for next year. Rusch or Mitre can be plugged in as the 5th starter and be just as effective. It's time to start restructuring. If the team falls apart, so be it. Maybe Baker will be fired as a result. If the team pulls it head out, that's great too. Send Maddux and maybe even Burnitz to Anaheim. They have some real good prospects and it appears Escobar's going to be out for a while, if not the entire season.
  3. Send Maddux to either Anaheim or San Diego. Maddux has a home in SoCal and both teams are a pitcher short. It appears Escobar will be out for a while and Anaheim's going w/ a rookie. The Cubs should be able to pick up a good prospect from either club.
  4. 1-5. Dusty 6-8. Guys who needed to have good years, Nomar and Patterson, haven't come through. 9-10. Injuries to Prior & Wood, again. Hendry should really look to trade Wood in the offseason for a bat, and replace Wood w/ a durable pitcher.
  5. Not necessarily. What if I told you that the Cubs were eyeing Carl Everett? Well he's better than Patterson, but that's not saying much.
  6. Philly gets Schmidt & Patterson Cubs get Burrell & Lofton SF gets prospects
  7. And, uh, what would you want in return for him. Just wondering. It would be part of a three way deal where Schmidt goes somewhere. I'm guessing they'll send him to the AL, so someone or someones from either BOS, NY, BALT, or TX. Can't pull a deal off w/ the White Sox.
  8. We should have the mods combine our individual threads into 1. As you can see I really liked your middleman approach. Sounds like a good idea. BOS, OAK and ChI would make an interesting pairing. I think Zito's going to be dealt and Boston could take Kotsay to replace Nixon. TEX, OAK and Chi could work too. Zito, Rusch and Walker to TX, etc., etc....
  9. Just posted something related to this. Scary! :D
  10. Or does his health keep him at 2b nowadays?? His .360 obp and "Dusty's trust in him" would look good leading off or batting 2nd. SF seems like a real good trading partner, as they need a little bit of everything. If they decide to have a firesale and deal off Alou, Durham, Schmidt, etc., I would love to see the Cubs get in there as a third or fourth partner and help them out. Perhaps SF would like to get Dopriak??
  11. There's quite an obp obsession. 5-8 hitters don't have to be prolific walkers. 1, 2 and 3 is where you want the guys who get on base. 3 is also where you want power along w/ 4 and 5 and 6. 7 and 8 you just pray they do something. Can't have everything unless you have New York or Boston's money or Cardinal luck.
  12. Very good idea! And since we know Hendry is capable of architecting a 4-way deal, well then, a 3-way deal should be as easy as falling off a log. I have a feeling he does something similar to the Nomar trade. I'd like to see the Cubs facilitate the Schmidt trade. Seems they could help SF w/ their lack of pitching depth.
  13. That solution has no chance. Baker hasn't been fired yet.
  14. Get a 3rd team in there like Seattle, who can throw another pitcher in like Jamie Moyer for Cub prospects, and the deal looks pretty good for all parties. Soriano's .869 ops batting 5th for TX looks pretty good in the Cubs 5th spot. He should put quite a few runs across the plate.
  15. Lee has a really good shot at breaking this record.
  16. My bet is that Dunn ends up in LA. They have a loaded farm system and aren't in the same division.
  17. If Baker's doing this, he should be fired cause he's essentially throwing games. He should have Hairston and Walker batting 1-2. It's beyond ridiculous.
  18. If Baker bats him 5th or 6th, sure. However, I have a feeling Baker would bat him 1st or 2nd due to his speed.
  19. With runners on: Sox: .342 OBP, .284 AVG Cubs: .340 OBP, .280 AVG Runners in scoring position: Sox: .341 OBP, .266 AVG Cubs: .347 OBP, .276 ABG I don't think the Sox get more hits with their guys on base. Huh. Only stat I see w/ a big disparity between the two teams is stolen bases where the Sox have twice as many. My guess is that they score more first to home and second to home runs due to their speed & get more sac fly runs.
  20. Simply the Sox just get more hits when their guys are on base. A third if not more of baseball's situational.
  21. Perhaps Patterson's just thinking too much up there. Just bat him 6th or 7th and let him hit away. He'll gradually adjust. Hard to change bad habit overnight.
  22. Why would Texas trade Rogers?? They'd have no pitching at all and would basically be conceding the division to Anaheim. They're only 6 1/2 out. If anyone is leaving Tx, it's Soriano. I like Soriano, but have come to the conclusion that if the Cubs got him Dusty would waste him by leading him off. He's fast ya know!
  23. Brian Giles?? SD has been discussing a move w/ Seattle where they'd get Moyer and Boone. Apparently, they'd deal off Burroughs. I think Loretta will be back by late July, but I'm guessing they want insurance in Boone. Also, they need another starter. Giles could be gone next year, since he's a free agent, and Nady's .OPS isn't far behind Giles. Giles is .913. Nady's is .857. The Cubs could deal SD Rusch, Walker and Patterson. Patterson probably won't start over Roberts, but gives them a CF for the future. Yes, yes Giles will be a fa, but I'm betting the Cubs can give him a pretty enticing offer. Dusty's lineup w/ Dunn... :D 2b. Hairston ss. Neifi cf. Giles 1b. Lee lf. Dunn 3b. Ramirez rf. Burnitz c. Barrett
