    he was only 2 er from the record for anyone. some ehmke guy from the 20s gave up 16 er in 6 ip to the bronx bombers in 1923. i believe this is the most for one pitcher since the second world war.

    Not exactly. The difference between what a clutch player is in those situations compared to what he is in non-clutch situations is too small to detect.

    Note: Prior to today's game. The Cubs were 2nd in the league in BA, 3rd in OBP, 4th in SLG, and 3rd in OPS but 10th in R/G.

    To be fair, they got Jim Edmonds by trading away a 30 year old 18 game winner. On the flip side they did use their system to acquire Mark Mulder.

    Every American League team has at least 15 and they have to face the DH.

    Less teams in the world means less teams for the Cubs to compete with and get that elusive WS. Statistics don't lie! The Cubs made it to the world series 10 times out of 57 chances before expansion.

    Which will kill the franchise. The Rays already can't hold on to their players, if they were in a B league from the word go they'd have been contracted by now. I don't see this as a problem. It's the Rays.

    No, they could have a three or four year stretch of being good like the Rays and Brewers. It also gives them an incentive to make small gains. Sure, they can't compete with say the Yankees, but it gives them a little incentive to add ten mil to the payroll and try to get into their "playoffs" and compete with like-minded teams. Though attendance because of being in the B league will suffer.

    I'd love for MLB to move to a relegation and promotion system like soccer leagues. I know I am in the minority of that. 16 Team "A" League 14 Team "B" League Have 162 game schedules interplaying A and B. Make sure something like 100 games are against your "league". Top 4 from each league make a two series playoffs. Bottom 4 of A league move down to B league. Top 4 of B league move to A league. Will never happen but I like it.

    IFFBs guys, IFFBs. He has a 21.7% IFFB rate this year. That's not going to continue but it's certainly something I am not going to chalk up to luck. He hasn't been unlucky, he simply hasn't made consistent solid contact. IFFB is somewhat of a skill (or lackthereof) but that's been largely responsible for his low BABIPs since 08.

    Ryan Dempster's striking out guys at a slightly lower rate this year. He has a higher K/9 because he's simply facing more batters - getting more chances to increase it - because of the extra homers, baserunners, etc. His K rate is down from about 22 percent to 20 percent this year. K/BF matters.
