  1. Looks like it really is Muschamp. This is a bit of a shock. http://jacksonville.com/sports/college/florida-gators/2010-12-11/story/gators-name-muschamp-coach
  2. This has to be your classiest post.
  3. lolkenpom. So much for that 10 point Pitt victory, I guess. Hey, another person that doesn't understand what 83% means. Yeah, he gave Pitt an 83% chance of winning, and predicted a 10 point Panther win. I realize that he's gonna be wrong sometimes, I just like to give stellar guys like SSR a hard time.
  4. It's gotta be hard to be so pathetic.
  5. lolkenpom. So much for that 10 point Pitt victory, I guess.
  6. Talk about horrible officiating... this Pitt/TN game is a joke. Pitt has been called for 5 fouls, TN for 11. Tennessee is still up 14.
  7. ESPN's Joe Schad says that the list of candidates to replace Urban Meyer at Florida most definitely starts with Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen. There was some talk that Mullen was Meyer's choice to replace him last year, and that perhaps athletic director Jeremy Foley wanted to go in a different direction, prompting Meyer's return. With Miami sniffing around, will Foley acquiesce this time? Possible candidates at Florida Dan Mullen, Mississippi State: Many say Gators offense hasn't been the same since he left. Kyle Whittingham, Utah: Has continued Urban Meyer's success in Salt Lake City. Charlie Strong, Louisville: First-year head coach may not have enough experience. Chris Petersen, Boise State: Lots of similarities between Meyer of 2004 and Petersen of today. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma: There was talk last year that former Gators DC might be ready to move on. Will Muschamp, Texas DC: Horns' head-coaching-in-waiting has SEC background at Georgia, LSU. Gary Patterson, TCU: Name always comes up for BCS-conference openings. Jon Gruden, Monday Night Football: Said no to Miami; is Florida preferable to an NFL gig? Bobby Petrino, Arkansas: Reportedly the second choice when Meyer was hired. Larry Fedora, Southern Miss: Gators OC under Ron Zook. Chip Kelly, Oregon: Could he be in need of another challenge already? Mike Shanahan, Washington Redskins: Long-ago Gators OC is a good friend of Jeremy Foley's. Informed of Meyer's decision by Brad Locke of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, Mullen texted, "News to me. Happy at State," and declined further comment. This seems to suggest that he was not aware that Meyer was going to step down and that he wasn't putting off the Hurricanes while waiting for this to happen. If Foley decides to go with a defensive-minded coach, Meyer's successor at Utah, Kyle Whittingham, whose name regularly comes up in discussions at BCS-conference schools, figures to be a prominent target, as does Louisville's Charlie Strong, Meyer's former defensive coordinator. Stepping outside the Meyer coaching tree, Tom Dienhart of Yahoo! Sports tweets that he thinks that Boise State coach Chris Petersen and Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp will also be on Foley's list. And TCU coach Gary Patterson's name always comes up for BCS-conference jobs. Could this be the job that finally gets any of them to leave their current situations? ESPN The Magazine's Bruce Feldman says that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden, fresh off his dalliance with Miami, will also be in the mix. Two other possibilities whose names surfaced last year when Meyer first stepped down: Oklahoma's Bob Stoops and Arkansas' Bobby Petrino. And might Foley take another run at good friend Mike Shanahan, who has had an up-and-down season with the Washington Redskins? FootballRumorMill.com chimes in with these additional names: Southern Mississippi coach Larry Fedora and Oregon coach Chip Kelly. In addition to Mullen and Strong, five other former Meyer coordinators have gone on to become head coaches elsewhere (former Bowling Green coach Gregg Brandon, now Virginia's OC; former UNLV coach Mike Sanford, now Louisville's OC; Toledo's Tim Beckman; Marshall's Doc Holliday; and newly appointed North Texas coach Dan McCarney), but we doubt any of them have a big enough name to earn the Florida job. And what to make of earlier reports that Meyer was having discussions with possible OC candidates? Was it so he could suggest an OC to his successor? Or could Meyer possible want embattled OC/one-time interim coach Steve Addazio put in charge, with a new coordinator to run the offense? - Albert Lin Joe Schad No shortage of candidates "Dan Mullen would be an obvious choice and the timing is right following strong interest from Miami and an outstanding successful campaign in his second year at Mississippi State. Louisville's Charlie Strong and Utah's Kyle Whittingham are obvious choices, too. If Meyer had stayed retired last year Oregon's Chip Kelly could have been a hot target but that time may have passed."
  8. I have been saying this for weeks. Dan Mullen will be the guy at Florida if this happens, and I think Miami has killed themselves by not moving quickly enough. Mullen to Florida, RichRod to Miam, Malzahn to Mississippi State. Book it. http://twitter.com/#!/GatorUpdates No you've been saying for weeks that Mullen was going to Miami. Yes, I suppose that is what I've been saying here. And I still imagine that will be the case if Florida were to go with Stoops. But, I have believed that if Urban were to retire again (and went so far as to predict it on another website 3 weeks ago), that Mullen would be at the top of the list for this job. Even though I predicted it, though, I'm not sure even I believed it. Still not sure I do, though I think it's more likely to stick this time.
  9. I have been saying this for weeks. Dan Mullen will be the guy at Florida if this happens, and I think Miami has killed themselves by not moving quickly enough. Mullen to Florida, RichRod to Miam, Malzahn to Mississippi State. Book it. http://twitter.com/#!/GatorUpdates
  10. I have believed all along that Dan Mullen will land at Miami and Gus Malzahn will take the HC job at Mississippi State, and heard a top sportstalk show in the state of Alabama suggesting that same thing today.
  11. Don't really understand these rankings. Tennessee is #2 in the RPI, #4 in SOS, and has beaten Villanova head to head on a neutral court, yet ends up ranked 3 spots below the Wildcats?
  12. A little surprising. Tennessee to the Music City Bowl is now apparently official, as well. NU vs. Texas Tech in the TicketCity Bowl and Illinois vs. Baylor in the Texas Bowl are also all but official. And according to Stewart Mandel, Temple is reportedly going to be team #71 despite their 8-4 record. I thought 6-6 teams couldn't go to bowl games ahead of teams with better records. That is found nowhere in the Bowl Tie-in rules. I'm not sure if it was once a rule that got changed or just another of those common misconceptions that has been quoted so much that it somehow became "true". UT/UNC in the MCB, which is exactly what we've been thinking for 2 weeks. Would have loved to have played Michigan in the Gator, but UNC could be a fun regional matchup, as well.
  13. Paper in Jacksonvill is reporting Miss State picked by the Gator, meaning Mich/Miss St in the Gator. Florida in the Outback, So. Carolina in the Chick-fil-A (against FSU... interesting matchup, imo) and Tennessee to the Music City.
  14. Do you guys really expect the Orange Bowl to select a team from over 3,000 miles away who does not travel well at all? Va Tech and UConn would at least create some regional appeal. I'll be stunned if the Orange doesn't go with UConn, leaving OU/Stanford in the Fiesta. And as a Vols fan, I'd be thrilled with a matchup against Michigan.
  15. seriously, why would gruden want to coach in college? he'd have to work his ass off. he's got a nice, cushy job. if anything, he's waiting for a pro opportunity. Is there anyone who really believes that the next coach at Miami will be anyone other than Dan Mullen?
  16. They only have 7 guys committed, and Marcus Jackson is the only guy I've heard of wavering, so it doesn't look like he'd really even get to do that.
  17. Stanford to the Fiesta, Arkansas vs Ohio State in the Sugar, and UConn in the Orange is my guess.
  18. Also, rumors are starting to swirl that Nutt is stepping down at Ole Miss at tomorrow's 4pm team meeting.
  19. The fun rumors going around Michigan boards tonight is Rich Rod will be heading to Miami and Harbaugh will be heading to Michigan. I hate rumors. Would not surprise me in the least. I actually suggested that elsewhere. Miami fans seem to be calling for Gruden. Not sure how realistic that would be. I'd think RichRod and Mullen would be the top 2 choices, and not necessarily in that order.
  20. I scooped ESPN by 8 minutes!
  21. Miami President Donna Shalala had a top-level, closed door meeting tonight, and it's being reported that Randy Shannon is out on Sunday or Monday. Dan Mullen just moved to the edge of his seat.
  22. Tennessee looks like an almost certainty to play North Carolina in the Music City Bowl at this point. I guess we'll get to see that game after all. And Tennessee true freshman QB Tyler Bray is arguably the best freshman QB in school history, ahead of some guy named Manning. dew, this team wins 10+ in 2012. 8+ in 2011.
  23. So, Tennessee wins #26 in a row against Kentucky, extending the nation's longest streak against an opponent. (Florida has the nations #2 streak- 24- against Kentucky, as well.) In winning, Tennessee gets Bowl Eligible, and Tyler Bray becomes the all time leading passer as a frosh at UT. The future looks good again in Knoxville. Oh, and with the Basketball team winning the NIT yesterday, it's been a great sports weekend at Tennessee.
  24. Two people I know have both heard Vols. One troll I know of says State, causing me to believe even more that he's a Vol. Tennessee is done at WR if this is true. Looks like Arnett is having some fun the night before he announces his commitment: http://www.twitvid.com/videos/darnett13 Arnett makes fun of the Tennessee QB for about 2 minutes straight in the Tennessee "commitment" video and calls Lane Kiffin "The greatest coach ever" in the USC video. His brother who's working the camera also calls Rich Rod "Dick Rod". This kid seems like a dick. He's probably headed to MSU. He'll fit right in. Yeah, these videos are making me think he's a Spartan (only team with a legit shot he's not lampooned yet), and making me think he's a prima donna. He is beginning to remind me an awful lot of Markeith Ambles, who used a live stream video chat every night leading up to NSD to jerk fans around about where he was signing. At the end of the day, I don't get very tied up in the decisions of an 18 year old boy, but if this kid chooses UT, I hope he leaves this crap at home and comes ready to work. If he wants to be a youtube sensation, I sincerely hope he signs with Sparty.
  25. That's kind of what I thought too. I don't think I would be all that excited for the guy, but that's probably not fair since he isn't his brothers. Cody's really important to IU for 2 reasons. The first is what people have mentioned is that he is seen as the piece that might bring even more elite recruits to Indiana. And the 2nd is simply that IU could really use another big body. We all know that Crean can recruit guards. To pair them with big men with talent makes those big men really important pieces. IU doesn't need Zeller to actually be the 20th ranked player in the country for him to be a huge get for them. They just need a solid player at the positions that they are sorely lacking at and also a possible help in recruiting momentum. I had almost given up on Crean. Hopefully, he is able to land a few more quality recruits for 2011 and beyond, and IU soon becomes relevant again. I'm really struggling to understand the train of thought that had you ready to give up on Crean after two seasons. Rebuilding a roster when you are starting from scratch is not a quick and easy process. To be fair, in a sport where you can turn over 50% of the people who play meaningful minutes for you in one year, it actually can be a pretty quick (though not always easy) process. Particularly at a school with the tradition and regional recruiting resources of Indiana.
