  1. No idea how to react to this. Won't speculate on the cause - obviously, this sucks. There is a kid on the Rivals mainboard from Cincy who has friends who were there. He says that there was alcohol there, but no one said if James had even had any. Basically, all that is being said is that he just leaned back against a rail that was just too short and fell over. Kids friends just said it happened so fast. Tragic story.
  2. Even if sarcastic, this is classless. Not even slightly funny.
  3. APR is a joke. UK will just take preemptive scholarship hits next year when they don't have 13. I don't think scholarship loss will be the end of it for Kentucky at this rate. I think practice restrictions are the direction they're headed in.
  4. Haven't looked back to see what, if any, discussion was taking place around Kentucky likely losing Dodson and Hood, as well as the expected departures of everyone else. It's entirely possible that Cal only brings back 3 or 4 players next season. His APR hit in 2012 will just be brutal.
  5. I fell for it at first. My friend sent it to me and in the middle of trying to get my 7th graders to finish a project, I didn't pay that much attention to it. Then I realized it was a gag. It's a pretty good one. My first thought was... no way they're going to replace their grass with turf. Then I realized the date and it all made sense.
  6. Exactly. I might have one spot on my roster that is a "revolving door" this season, but that's all you have room for. I'm not going to use that just to pick up someone just because they play on a day that most of my other players are off, but I will use it for finding guys on hot streaks.
  7. From time to time, yes. But, I also carry 4 RP so that I don't have to do that as much. It's no different than picking up an extra bat if you have 10 of your 14 hitters with an off day. It's not like you're running a roster carousel.
  8. I was second in scoring in the league last year and didn't really put much thought into RP until the trade deadline. Your offense was also much better than mine. Point is, if you only have 3 RP on the roster, you will miss out on at least 3-5 games a week due to off days and rest. If you have 4 or 5, you can almost dodge off days altogether, and if you get an extra 2 points on those days, you're looking at 6-10 points per week, or potentially as many as 200 points in a season. Is the affect of the RP overstated? Maybe. But people who treat it like it's an afterthought really are leaving points on the table.
  9. No, you can't because owners voted that down last year. That's the one gripe I really have about last year's votes... that one seems like a no-brainer to me. If you've got your 7 starts in for the week on Saturday, and you have 5 RP on your roster, you can still only use 3 of them, which does not make sense to me. You're screwing yourself out of free points.
  10. Nothing has been decided yet. We'll vote. Even if we go that route, it would be a gradual process... like after NEXT season. We'd likely grow to 15 keepers first, and then to 18 or 20 the following offseason. So, even if it moves that way, it's going to be gradual enough to give people a solid chance at building what they'd want for a dynasty team. No worries. We're still going to have at least two full seasons of this format.
  11. So, it's apples to apples to compare Pearl to Calipari? Surely you don't really believe that? By that same logic, Neuheisel is as dirty as Kiffin, right? It's just a silly comparison. Where did he say it was apples to apples. Calling both shady doesn't equate the two. Saying he's going to root against Pearl based on the same principle on which he rooted against Calipari doesn't equate the two. So, let's make sure I have this correct... Saying that Pearl and Calipari should be lumped together is not equating the two?

  13. Add yours as you think of them. (Yes, I fully anticipate Levin just vomiting ideas all over this thread!) Restrictions on # of SP per roster # of SP active Total number of keepers (as we move toward more of a dynasty type of league) Total number of points that can be kept Roster expansions
  14. He outright lied about the Deon Thomas incident. The NCAA found that nothing Pearl claimed was true. He was let go from Iowa for that very reason, and was in coaching purgatory for years as a result. But yeah, he's never been investigated for cheating. Bold-faced lies are well into the realm of shady, though. Okay, you want to call him shady? That's fine. Is it safe to assume that you agree that Pearl lying to NCAA investigators about another school cheating is the same as actually cheating? I don't expect most Illinois fans to like Pearl. In fact, I understand the hatred. But to act like he's on the level with John Calipari is an utter joke. Investigations for alleged cheating: Pearl with 0. Vacated FInal Fours due to cheating: Calipari with 2. HUUUUUUGE difference.
  15. Because Pearl has had teams who have had to vacate 2 Final Fours and left two teams on probation? So baseless accusation is the same thing as TWO instances of NCAA punishment? Really? There has likely never- ever- been a coach under more scrutiny than Pearl, and despite this, the NCAA has never had reason to sniff around at Tennessee under him. But, by all means, let's compare him to a coach who's never been to a Final 4, despite having taken two separate teams to one. and lets not forget Pearl spent a lot of time in coaching purgatory for his mistake in the Deon Thomas affair.....and most Illinois fans seem to forget that they got put on probation for legitimate violations and still retained the assistant coach who was most responsible for the violations. I'm not an Illinois fan at all. Bruce Pearl is awful shady; why shouldn't he be lumped with guys like Bob Huggins, Scott Drew and even Calipari? Because he has never been investigated for cheating? I suppose that's not quite as subjective as lumping him in with those guys because you feel like he's shady, though.

  17. I'm so disappointed at the golden opportunity Tennessee missed out on today. No question that Butler will be tough in the Final 4, but this Toureny set up about as perfectly as could be expected for them. Pearl coached as well as Izzo today, no question. This game just came down to MSU doing to little things better than Tennessee did. The Spartans hit free throws and Tennessee did not. Cannot blame it on a bad call or missed call, and there really isn't another aspect of the game that appeared to lean heavily in one team's favor. Sparty hit free throws, the Vols did not. Just a good game overall. Sad to see Prince, Chism, and Maze go out this way, but I was pleased with how Brian Williams, Melvin Goins, and Cameron Tatum all stepped up during the Tourney. Now, if only Scotty Hopson would become even a semblance of the guy Tennessee fans anticipated he would be when he signed, next year could be another very deep run. Good game, Spartans. You deserved the win, and have an incredibly classy program.
  18. And, for the record, of the Top 15 RP last year (after removing guys who split time between starting and relieving), 4 guys were not their team's primary closers. #8, #13, #14, and #15 were all set-up guys, primarily. I'd be all for a slight bump to points for closers and relievers, though I thought that they were about right (top SP scored 400 points more than top RP did). It made RP about 48% as valuable as SP overall, so too much of a bump wouldn't make a ton of sense, in my opinion. But again, I agree that if we're going to bump saves up at all, we have to bump holds by the same margin.
  19. I think points are mostly fine as they are. I don't think the points are the issue, and I don't think a 28 man roster is even close to a reasonable idea. The problem, as I see it, is that owners voted down the proposition to have fewer SP active on a given day. I proposed a minimum of 3 SP that you would have to have active (and since there is room for 5 RP on every roster, that number made total sense), and it was voted down. Perhaps if people had the foresight to see what we were trying to do, the outcome would have been different. It's also telling that so many owners only have 3 RP on their rosters, when they are allowed up to 5. How did I score more than anyone else last year? Here's a hint... I didn't only carry 3 RP, for one. RP points are the most overlooked source of points in this league, and it's only to the detriment of the owners who choose to ignore them. If those points are an afterthought to you, that's no one's fault but your own. There are plenty of points there in the RP department if you choose to pay attention to them. Again, if owners would make the sensible choice of not making every team have to have 5 SP active every day, this situation resolves itself. I agree with the idea that more RP makes it more realistic, I just don't understand trying to make that more realistic when you're totally bastardizing rosters by making them 28 players. Very inconsistent.
  20. Would also give us a 28 man MLB roster, and let's be honest- that's just a terrible idea.
  21. If you're interested in batcrap crazy, find your way over to Catspause and check out Rupp's Rafters. It's just funny how insane that part of the Wildcat fanbase can be.
  22. Hopson being accurate with his shots would really help things out as well. But yeah, Chism pretty much has to play well for us to win. I'm close to feeling about Hopson how I felt about Kelley Washington. He's infuriating. And to think that he came into college with One-and-done hype. If he had 1/3 of the heart of Chism or Prince, he'd be a lottery pick. If he doesn't show up Sunday, it's going to be much tougher to get past Sparty.
  23. Tom Izzo. There's a reason. Best coach in college hoops, but he does not make Sparty unbeatable.
  24. Because Kansas is probably equal to Tennessee this year without those guys? And Tennesse is going to lose their whole damn team next year? (minus Hopson) :-)) Riiiiight. I'm shocked that your hatred of Pearl has blinded you this badly. Wait.... no I'm not. At least you're unbiased hosak To follow up on this, was it my blind hatred of Pearl that had me correctly say how absurd it was that they were a 2 a few years back(The year they nearly lost to Winthrop, and were then embarrassed by Wichita) Or when I correctly called the SEC total ass, leading to a typical Tennesee 1st round loss? Sweet 16 3 out of 4 years is a "typical 1st round loss"? Okay. I guess that isn't quite as dumb as saying that KU without Collins, Aldrich, and Henry was equal to Tennessee this year. Nevermind that Tennessee beat Kansas with those 3 guys and without 4 of its own top 8 players. Brilliant.
  25. UT will be a Top 20 team without Selby. If they get him and add him to Tobias Harris, there is a good chance they are better next season than this. This is why I have to laugh at people like SSR making such ignorant comments.
