  1. O'day would be an awesome bullpen pick up but are you sensing this could be an expensive pickup? Perhaps the Cubs believe either Chirinos or Castillo is worth more right now than Davis and wanted to expand the deal to make it more fair?
  2. Sorry for starting new thread on this delete if you find necessary.
  3. I would love O'Day in the pen but the cost for this scares me.
  4. This is going to happen, the Cubs will get him on a 2 year deal because by doing this Hendry will be able to defer some salary to next season. I am going to estimate 2 yrs with incentives up to 22 mil only 6 of it hitting this years pay roll. Just a guess but the fact they are meeting again makes me think they feel they have a competitive offer to make. Lets hope Webb is coming.
  5. Bruce Miles is skeptical about this report according to his blog site. Before I even read this I was wondering why the hell nobody else has picked up on this other than Scott Miller. If it happens, I guess its fine under a 1 year deal only, just please if we get Overbay I am not watching.
  6. I am not necessarily opposed to this as long as they can use him to get a good return, I am still not sold on Gorz, he seems to have many days where his control is completely horrible. However just dumping him would be a completely foolish thing to do.
  7. Not unless its a three team deal, which is now what ESPN is report is in the works. Would the dodgers flip Fielder to the Cubs without pissing off the Brewers?
  8. Quick follow up from Tim Brown saying LA is not interested in Fielder.
  9. What will we do with the other of Kosuke and Byrd if we have an OF of Soriano/Colvin/Guyer? If we trade one of the two, is the other just going to be a bench player? I don't see that as likely at all. Plus, a Sori/Colvin/Guyer OF would be awful both offensively and defensively. Sori/Byrd/Colvin with Guyer playing Colvins role of last year. Just a hunch but they have said repeatedly they wanted Colvin to have a full time gig next season.
  10. I think you need to still attempt to acquire one of Pena. If all else fails I think they need to take a risk on a Chris Davis, Kila K, Gordon or something along those lines. To me signing LaRoche or Overbay should absolutely not happen. Either get a huge potential season out of Pena or take a major roll of the dice. I still think Fukudome or Byrd is going to be traded, no basis just a hunch because I believe its possible the Cubs will go into next season with Guyer and Colvin in the outfield.
  11. I am not sure Hawpe can play any position well at all. If they were going to get a bad defensive player they would have went for Dunn. I would love his bat I think he is still good for a .270/.360/.470 line.
  12. Would you want to give up Jackson for Marcum? I wouldnt and that the closest comparison I see.
  13. Not a bad pickup depending on what they gave up.
  14. Exactly. Sounds like the Cubs' pursuit was at least part of the reason the Red Sox decided to do the deal (presumably without the extension in place). Which sucks. Okay so now send Colvin, Cashner, Castillo and prospect(s) for Greinke and 1 of Butler or Gordon.
  15. San Diego is officially going to have the worst offense in baseball.
  16. Definitely would not include Soto, he is one of the best offensive catchers in the game, do not create a hole to fill a hole and besides if you lose out on AG there is still a chance you can upgrade @ 1B after this season. The Cubs need to lock up Soto long term soon.
  17. Not even close. Holliday has been a + LF his entire career, Rasmus has the athleticism to be a ++ CF. Berkman will undoubtedly be bad in LF, but there will be plenty of worse outfield defenses. It's Theriot and Schumaker up the middle that scares the [expletive] out of me. I do not think this is a good move at all for the Cardinals, I understand giving up defense for a definitive offensive production but Berkman is not necessarily going to give you the offensive production needed to offset horrendous defense. As a Cubs fan I love what the Cardinals have done with their infield =D> .
  18. HAHA this better not be true. There should be no hesitance in doing any deal involving Colvin for a much better well established player. Colvin is far far far from being someone Hendry is scared to deal. Come on Honestly, Cashner and Archer are the only ones Id refuse to move, and we might end up having to give up one of the 2. Im probably one of the very few Colvin fans still out there, but if Hendry refuses to move him to get A Gon, he should be smothered. I'd resist trading Archer or Jackson, but I'd trade any of the others in a heartbeat. If Cashner is just going to be a setup man for us anyways, might as well trade him now http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs Sounds like according to Levine the Cubs are tossing around the idea of putting Cash in the rotation next season.
  19. This site also had a 3-way trade rumor where the Cubs would get Jacoby and Bucholz.. Not sure how much I would even believe this. I'm not going to try and convince you of my source - I'm skeptical, too, when I hear things like this. But, I have to defend myself a little: the 3-way Ellsbury and Buchholtz trade rumor was from ESPN Chicago. I merely passed on the rumor - again, from ESPN Chicago. And the substance of my post was saying the 3-way trade wasn't happening (http://www.bleachernation.com/2009/12/30/no-threeway-trade-between-cubs-red-sox-and-padres-for-now/) Fair enough. Just never seen the site, no disrespect.
  20. This site also had a 3-way trade rumor where the Cubs would get Jacoby and Bucholz.. Not sure how much I would even believe this.
  21. Okay if Werth is @ 7/126 mil than AGon is worth 8/160
  22. Any chance that with the Sox losing out on Werth and not getting Agon that Boston may revisit interest in ARam?
  23. That is ridiculous... I can see 5 year but 7 for Werth??????
  24. Good to see other teams than the Red Sox and Yankees signing big names if this is true.
