  1. lol that shu shu shu secure it rap was probably the highlight of the game
  2. I like Harden, but that's crazy talk. With as many holes as this team has, the Cubs can no longer afford to take that risk. What holes can they actually fill? Soriano isn't going anywhere. There's your LF. It's about a 100% guarantee that one of Fukudome/Johnson will be in CF next year. 99% chance that it's both again. Bradley will be in RF again. Ramirez at third, Lee at first. Theriot will either be at short or second, with one of the spots needing to be filled via FA because they can't go with Fontenot again. Catcher is set. Starting pitchers: Z, Lilly, Dempster for sure. Probably one of Wells/Marshall, and then you need a fifth. I doubt they go with both Marshall and Wells in the rotation (and one of them will probably be traded). They'll add some bullpen arms, but not many. We may have a lot of holes, but contracts make it so we don't have much leeway to do anything. And it's not like we have a good farm system. As you said, probably either second base or the bullpen. They don't have very much money to spend this offseason. And it might be in the Cubs best interest to pocket the money and wait to become major players after 2010. The farm system still isn't great position player wise, but it's starting to have lots of quality pitching. The Cubs will have several options next year if they want to go that route. Samardzija, Marshall, or quite possibly Coleman at the start of the year (Coleman will never be a great pitcher but could already be close to major league ready) with possibly either Jackson or even Cashner later in the year, although the Cubs might not want to rush those two with their upsides. It might be, but I can't imagine that happening. The new owner might want to make a splash instead of maybe accepting we need a year or two to save up some money before doing anything major. if the new owner wants to make a splash...i can only pray this it is given to a new front office...i don't want anymore hendry splashes...sure they are huge, but they leave the pool half empty
  3. personally, i prefer sausage Uh? Mr. Sausage
  4. Definitely won't be missing him next year. That is until Duncan almost assuredly gets his hands on him and his ERA drops below 2. he isn't going to improve until he goes under the knife...duncan dust can only do so much
  5. Pujols really is God Eat your heart out Braun
  6. it surely would be entertaining to watch him make kick saves at short
  7. His bat just looks SO much quicker than it did in April/early May. He's able to turn on inside pitches he wasn't catching up to earlier and driving the ball to right often enough. God we have some idiot fans booing Soriano when he actually drove an outside pitch pretty hard opposite field. i am probably completely wrong on this, but i think lee is finally just letting it go and trusting his wrist again
  8. He tripped over his bag in the middle of the night and did a face plant. He also apparently has a huge rug burn on his back from the same incident. Heard that on one of the morning sports radio shows down here. Actually a rather humorous story. I'm thinking there's like a 5% chance that's the real story, though. Mound help! most likely, with mustache securely in tow, he challenged a local barman to a draw i am thinking the local barman's fists won the high after midnight duel

  10. I wouldn't re-sign him. The Cubs need to pick up another cheap position or two to make up for the contracts they have on the roster. That starting pitcher slot is an ideal place to go the inexpensive route with several possible options in the minors by mid-season next year. You may have some growing pains, but I'd rather have that and save the small amount of money for talent elsewhere. totally agree, we already have too much committed to dempster
  11. why does ludwick have a scabby right eye?
  12. dan haren? He was a Cardinal first. He didn't come up in the A's organization. zing...did not know that...what did the redbirds give him up for?
  13. i am still bothered that he didn't get surgery this offseason it is really no big surprise that he is struggling this year
  14. soriano has problems picking up baseballs
  15. holy crap...was he supposed to be anything special?
  16. kosuke in the 3 hole today!?!?!??!?!? ](*,)
  17. wicked awesome soto for a month and dempster for probably a bit longer i can hear the angels singing right now!
  18. because apparently soriano is one of those cats that needs "special" treatment. he is used to being told hours before the fact that he isn't going to play. i guaran-damn-tee that 90% of everyday players in major league baseball are told in advance when they are going to be getting a day off. you think derek jeter runs over to see the manager's posted lineup to see if he's going to be playing that day? a guaran-damn-tee? really? sweet! derek jeter does not equal soriano and you are really sticking with that 90%? that is an awfully high number
  19. because apparently soriano is one of those cats that needs "special" treatment. he is used to being told hours before the fact that he isn't going to play. to show up and be notified at game time is beneath him. i wouldn't want to play with a guy like that.
  20. I wonder if we could send them some relievers for Barmes if they land Sanchez. why do you have such a hard on for barmes? -we need a middle infielder who can hit. -we dont have a lot of money to spend -Brames is a middle infielder who can hit. -Barmes makes 1.6 mil for the season, which is halfway over meh...i would rather let the fontenot/baker platoon ride the storm out at this point... barmes is much better against lefties...so then we would just have a crazy log jam of middle infielders this teams big weaknesses right now are starting pitching health/depth, bullpen solidness, and underperformance. if he came to us as easily as baker...sure...but i highly doubt he would be worth it for anything much larger, he is 30 and has crappy OBP ETA - he is also another rocky mountain high guy...terrible home/road splits...pass!
