  1. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/01/cubs-theriot-lobbies-for-sheets.html Nice to read Theriot's comments. Maybe his lobbying grit-factor will push the Cubs, and Ricketts, to sign Sheets.
  2. right back at ya hot shot
  3. Really??!?!?!?!? Are you just being silly at this point man? You haven't proven anything, and quite frankly, I don't know what the hell you were trying to prove in the first place.
  4. so we go from "sucking HARD" to it being "very possible" that we win a title oh my jesus. you implied that i was inferring the difference from adding one of them and sucking HARD was going to the playoffs. going all the way and making the playoffs are two completely different things, unless you happen to have blocked out the past two times this team made the playoffs. ETA: I am also factoring in the time missed from Lilly and a possible transition period for him. I didn't feel the need to bring that up since it is already widely understood and recognized.
  5. so you think sheets or bedard could take us from a team that "sucks HARD" to a team that can make the playoffs? no, never said that. you pretty much did. you're saying we'll suck hard without sheets/bedard, but if we sign one of them we suddenly have a chance. are you willfully trying to misunderstand what i just posted?
  6. so you think sheets or bedard could take us from a team that "sucks HARD" to a team that can make the playoffs? no, never said that. Obviously, the goal is to win the whole damn thing. Pitching will get us there. If everyone on this team plays to their abilities it is very possible. The Cubs need another starter though. Hell, even if Sheets or Bedard should be signed by us and then get injured/underperform, the trade deadline can net another starter for the stretch run and playoffs. I like their chances with a revolving door in the 5th spot, but not the double spin on a stick [expletive] fest that we currently have at 4 and 5.
  7. Yeah, that's not true. but it was worth the gut laugh
  8. i feel liike this is the last season that our core can do anything because it starts falling apart at the end of this season take the risk with sheets or bedard, if not we are going to suck HARD
  9. I think it will be a three team race between the Cubs, the Mariners, and the Dodgers. I don't think we win that race, but I would love to be proven wrong.
  10. Ben Sheets To Throw For Teams Tuesday By Tim Dierkes [January 14, 2010 at 11:49am CST] Ben Sheets will throw for teams Tuesday at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, reports ESPN's Tim Kurkjian. Said Sheets: "They're going to like what they see." Kurkjian indicates six to ten teams have expressed interest, the Cubs included. Kurkjian believes a one-year deal with incentives is in order. He says to "keep an eye on Seattle," given Jack Zduriencik's familiarity with Sheets. The Mariners were first connected to Sheets on December 11th by Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Kurkjian talked to Sheets about his year off from baseball, after the righty had flexor tendon surgery in February. Sheets feels "refreshed" and "fantastic," and seems raring to go. He thinks he can regain his old form, adding "Watch, I'll show 'em." Rumored suitors aside from the Cubs and Mariners? The Rangers, Yankees, Mets, and Orioles have been linked to Sheets this offseason, but several of those clubs have added starters since. The Angels and Dodgers would make sense.
  11. better than matt murton, daryle ward, and old man cliffy.
  12. I have more respect for him now that he has finally fessed up.
  13. wowsers!!! Maddux, the man, the myth, the legend!!!
  14. yeah, but I've given actual baseball logic for why AZ makes more sense in this thread. The votes for florida are "they'd be closer to me!" The only baseball reason to move to florida is that they'll provide facilities that are enough better to offset all the other reasons to stay in AZ. Meh. I am sticking with option, "they will be closer to me, Alex."
  15. Florida. Do it. Thanks. Me
  16. Your preference will come true, I just hope it the former of the two.
  17. Comparing Casey Kotchman to a garbage player wasn't the brightest thing I have ever read.
  18. Sheets over Harden if they are both magically healthy again. Harden over Sheets if they are both magically healthy again and Harden regains the use of all of his pitches.
  19. why is it that marshall can do the same job as almost every pitcher brought up on these boards? marshall is not that good, wang is better... I am not advocating a Wang signing, but I wanted to point this out.
  20. if we added both sheets and calero i would be more happy than i have been with this team since right after the mark derosa home run in Game 1 of the 2008 NLDS damn, it has been a while
  21. too bad he isn't coming to the cubs
  22. http://www.nwherald.com/articles/2009/12/18/r_vfsdadm8qxe_7akfw2nviq/index.xml I found that last night. He threw him under the bus a little, but still we are outsiders looking in. Maybe Bradley always called Theriot "Whitey". ?
  23. I am down for Theriot departing for greener or even browner pastures. The closer the 2010 seasons gets, the more excited I become for the trading deadline. We have some nice choice meat on our squad that could really net us some nice chips for the future. I would love to see Lilly, Lee, Theriot, Ramirez, Zambrano, Dempster, and maybe even Soto on the block right now. We have a few young kids in the minors who look promising. A couple of them, barring a first baseman, almost fill up the diamond. It can be done, and we can be good again sooner than you think. The only difference being that maybe this time there will be a couple of young guys acquired who are top-flight instead of just slightly above solid for their position. I, like some of you, am honestly pretty tired of our core.
  24. I would rather have Coco Crisp than all the above, but that isn't happening either. Screw you Hendry. You have shattered my dreams you bastard.
