  1. It looks like a he got a late start to the season. Maybe just building his arm up to go deeper in games?
  2. yep like i said, even if we gain those back immediately in the next two days, i'm just gonna be lamenting the fact that it could/should be 3.5 I was furious yesterday. And now I am even more furious. And I don't even get to see any dongs tonight, either. http://33.media.tumblr.com/edd2db72075bf1a2511d1d7b7a63c859/tumblr_nmfwr43S4P1u9p9x4o3_250.gif
  3. To ARCubsFan and all of his treacherous kin: The Cards are getting beat 6-0. But, yeah, the division was never a realistic option, and yesterday's game didn't really matter.
  4. Ugh... two doubleheaders in less than a week? Our rotation is going to be all messed up.
  5. Wow. He's got my attention, for sure.
  6. Breakfast burritos... mmm http://www.newtonsapple.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/drooling-homer-simpson.jpg
  7. Humans enjoy many delicious things. Pancakes, waffles and French toast are all delightful options that can be enjoyed at different times, or sometimes all at once. I'm intrigued If I'm at some kind of breakfast buffet scenario, the carnage left behind is...unspeakable. I mean, all breakfast food is wonderful, but there is no amount of scrambled eggs that is sufficient for me. I want them all.
  8. Strawberries are a delightful addition to pancakes or French toast. And I have to agree with David, I'm much more preferable to French toast than pancakes.
  9. Banana-flavored candies are a blight on humanity. Banana bread is the best, though.
  10. Gleyber's home run: http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=469012883&sid=t521
  11. Coghlan's music is: http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j322/cawalkerokay/parks-and-recreation-Jean-Ralphio-the-worst-worst-woooorst-1372637673p.gif
  12. but the wins before it directly increased the significance Exactly. Here is why it's frustrating: Looking at things six days ago: "We need the Cards to crumble and for us to go on a run." *That starts happening in the series before we play them* "Ok, now we need to sweep them this series and there is a chance, seeing as how we have another chance to sweep them at home." *That starts happening and is almost fulfilled* Then, boom, the eighth innings hits. And that basically flies out the window. It was pretty unrealistic because we needed a lot to happen, but it was happening. Yeah of course each passing win made it more likely. I guess I was taking more of a 'don't get your hopes up until it actually happens' type attitude. Playing out what you guys are saying....winning today, taking the first two against them, and then losing the last game of the series would have been the 'worst' outcome? Or most frustrating at least? The two wins were great, and satisfying in a lot of ways. But they didn't move the needle that much. It's just more frustrating. Those first two wins were in the bank. And it wasn't so unrealistic anymore, especially with a two-run lead in the 8th.

  14. Us passing the realistic/unrealistic line only occurred because we won the two previous games. So it is absolutely rational being more upset now. Had we lost one of the two prior games, our chances were back to being not very realistic at all.
  15. Yep. The faint hope was in, "Well, we could just do it ourselves and knock six games off that lead head-to-head."
  16. The problem was that back then, we were saying, it doesn't really [expletive] matter if it is a 5.5 game lead right now, because anything can happen over the next two months. And we were right. The Giants fell completely off the map. It was just silly to think, "Oh this is our only option right now." Also, the Cubs were in the midst of a huge dongfest and the Giants have a [expletive] rotation, and it wasn't hard to envision us building upon that lead based off of the sheer fact that we are a better team. I think a lot of the negative guys on the board got a lot of crap for obsessively following the Giants or the Nationals score a couple weeks ago when they had about the same percentage chance to catch us as we did going into today of catching the Cardinals. If you think the Cubs locked down a playoff spot a week or two ago, then you can't also argue we had a realistic shot at this division. I'm arguing that you can scoreboard watch with a lot more efficacy with three weeks left than with five or six weeks left. It was just silly to be hung up on it back then. It wasn't that bad things couldn't happen; it's just that it was silly to worry about it then. I get that. Back of the envelope math...I saw the Cubs needing to go about 23-7 (including this last winning streak) to close out the year to realistically pass the Cardinals (including another sweep). If you think the Cubs, or any team in baseball is capable of going through August and September like that...awesome. It's a really frustrating loss because it checked all the boxes of a frustrating Cardinals win. Their 2015 way of leaving guys on base, and their years long habit of some relative no name coming through with a clutch hit. But outside of momentum or morale, I don't think it changes our position much. Yeah, and it wasn't a realistic goal until we were well on our way to doing just that. Six days ago it seemed a near certainty. Three days ago, it seemed incredibly unlikely. An hour ago, it seemed like, well maybe.

  19. It's not irrational at all. I think we would have been a bit above 5% with a win today, too. And as much as the numbers tell more truth than your eyes, and momentum probably isn't really a thing... it just felt like something was happening. Like, ok, it's still 5.5, but we are donging all over and they are tumbling to the finish line. And 5% isn't nothing, either.
  20. lol... I know. I just can't get over this game. We had them on the ropes! We could have been breathing down their throats when they came to Wrigley. [expletive] this wild card home game [expletive]. I wanted it all!
  21. exactly how i feel after the peralta game, the 5-0 game in may at busch, and the first game in june in busch that arrieta pitched, this is definitely in my top 5 most annoying losses of the year... probably just ahead of the goldschmidt/ahmed game I am still pissed about that Wil Myers homer game, where he should have been rung up the pitch before, too. bryant's debut right? Yeah, I think it was.
  22. Pretty much. This DID mean something, and this is a crappy loss. It's not going to send them spiraling off into failure, but being only 5.5 back with the series coming up would have been gigantic. Maddon should have been doing everything possible to step on their throat today. such a massive [expletive] swing and a huge game and maddon talked about wanting to catch the cardinals today too I'm fuming. We had a chance to get them. God [expletive] dammit!

  24. It has. That was a very mundane comeback win. I realize it was after Lester had come out of the game, but they won by stringing three of their five hits together in a way that scored the game's winning runs. Hits that easily could have been scattered harmlessly through the rest of the game. Not to mention their mediocre relievers shutting down the Cubs and Cardinals pitching lights out when the Cubs had scoring opportunities. This was a very Cardinals-esque comeback win. It was a very [insert literally any team here]-esque comeback win. That's basically how every comeback win happens. Get out of here with your "only the Cardinals" crap.
