  1. Sure it was. They were consistently below league average in team OBP for I think almost every year except 2008 under the Hendry tenure despite having a payroll in the top five NL in that time.
  2. dude, are you being sarcastic? Unfortuanately I dont think so. Sadly there are alot of Cub fans who think Steve Stone is a genius, and worship the ground he walks on. I'd trade Santo for Stone in the booth ASAP, but I wouldn't want Stoney as my pitching coach. He has too many other interests. The Cubs starting pitching is the one good thing about the team. The one thing Hendry knows is starting pitching. Rothschild is more than capable.
  3. Um... change for the sake of change isn't good. Hurdle wasn't a good manager. Successful comapnies make changes for the sake of change all the time. As long as it's a reasonable decision, there's nothing wrong with it.
  4. Dosn't matter. The Twins are a more talented team, and an intelligent baseball organization. This is correct. Good teams dont set MLB records with nine straight playoff losses.
  5. Some terrible looking at bats there. This team is reverting back to its Dusty days.
  6. The Cubs have only had one consistent 100 rbi guy the last several years, so it's not that surprising IMHO. Last year, DeRosa and Edmonds made up for it in a big way. This offense just lacks consistent hitting talent.
  7. so let me get this right: Lou and Hendry are ok with .305 OBP and .235 avg at leadoff every game? What a whip-smart way to start off the day.
  8. Not at all. ...why? I think it's exaggerating. 1st base is the easiest position to play in MLB.
  9. All three are in the outfield right now.
  10. Hey guys, try to remember that this team won 97 games last year. Let's just wait until things fall into place, on the lucky side of the coin. It's bound to happen if we are patient.
  11. Kenny's the man. Terrible music. Country or Kenny? anything that is played on U.S. 99.
  12. hahhahahha thx Jim Hendry for this awesome left handed RF.
  13. haha this team is just in total disarray. Jim Hendry makes the bestest baseball teams.
  14. Go back and read the thread, Mojo Pin.The comments about DeRosa and Edmonds were bought up when I talked about how the 2008 lineup had more offensive talent, and I was happy for Hendry "putting it together" in 2008. Wether DeRosa was added in 2007 is irrelevent in the obvious context of the 2008 team having more offensive talent. I don't think I've ever seen someone so desperate to argue semantics as you.
  15. So what's your point? DeRosa was in the lineup nearly as often in 2007 as he was in 2008: 2007: 574 PA 2008: 593 PA It's not like the Cubs didn't play him much in 2007 and then all of a sudden decided to play him in 2008. Go back and read the thread. The point was having DeRosa and Edmonds in the lineup at the same time added more offensive talent in 2008 than the team currently on the field. Both of those guys could smack the ball around.
  16. Theriot is one of the few Cubs right now even capable of putting the bat on the ball. Guy is an inexpensive solid player with good instincts at the plate(but not on the bases). I'll take it.
  17. Right, but Edmonds and DeRosa were not in the same lineup until 2008.
  18. No, I'm saying that 0-3 in back to back NLDS's is not flukey, but rather an indicator of a weak team. Also, these are not robots out there. It's perfectly reasonable to accept that the playoff chokiness has saturated their psyche. So the answer is, what? Until the Cubs win another WS, any team that loses in the playoffs regardless of their regular season succees needs to be blown up or at least significantly reconstructed because they have "saturated psyches?" Come on, that's not realistic at all. I don't have the answers. All I know is that this team isn't worth the price paid. There's very little talent on the offensive side of the ball. The team was much more talented last year with DeRosa and Edmonds in the lineup. I find it interesting that you're so determined to get rid of Hendry yet bring up DeRosa and Edmonds, two signings that he was raked over the coals for at the time when they first happened. I applauded Hendry for both signings. Other than 2003, 2008 was Hendry's best year. The rest have been miserable.
