  1. I'd be all for going the other direction, becoming a seller and starting over next year. It's obvious that if we happen to run up against the Phillies in the playoffs, it isn't going to be pretty. Of course becoming a seller would assume that the Cubs had anyone that was sellable. They have a whole team full of $50 bags of Skittles. Sell who? Soriano? Sorry, five more years. Bradley? Two more. Fuku? another year. D-Lee? NTC. Aram? Your best "clutch" hitter when healthy. Jim Hendry has built one of the most incompetent MLB clubs per dollar. It's a disaster that really can't be fixed.
  2. A troll would be an insincere poster, which isn't what I am. The problem you have with me, Mojo is that you hold onto the 97 win season as the reality, or standard of this organization. It's not, and never was. It was a fluke.
  3. Thanks Jim Hendry for having a $140 mill payroll that still has Shark on the major league roster.

  5. isn't it funny how some people just come out of the woodwork when the cubs lose? no posts during the washington series but the cubs lose a game to the phillies and oh look, they're back. The Washington series shows nothing in any capacity. This series against a top team is quite different. I'll be standing at attention patiently, awaiting the moment the Cubs impress you. You are right, my bad. How dare I act like the Cubs haven't done anything worthy of praise. They are one of the most dedicated and competent franchises in MLB, and I am proud to be a fan. We Cubs fans are spoiled, aren't we? All those world series appearances and here I am complaining that beating the National means nothing. I really need to rethink my approach to Cubs baseball. These guys have been putting it on the line with a competent front office and on-field presence for a long time, with a few rings thrown in to boot. Sorry, Cubs. I guess I got a little greedy.

  7. Unfortunately you can't play bad teams all the time.
  8. Come on, really? You really need an explanation for how the baseball draft is a crapshoot? The draft is not a crapshoot when you are building from an organizational philosophy. Sure, it may be a crapshoot getting #1 and #2 on your list, but that in no way prevents you from selecting players who fit what you perceive is the best way to build a baseball team. Its structure is not a crapshoot in reality. A crapshoot would be putting names on pieces of paper, mixing them up in a bag and then having teams dig in.
  9. I feel bad for Arnold about how his heart will break when the next GM after Hendry is worse. What is your evidence that the next GM will be a lock in terms of being inferior to Hendry? I'd take a GM who drafted baseball players instead of "toolsy" athletes like Tyler Colvin. The draft is a crapshoot. How can it be a crapshoot when you can scout all the players ahead of time and line up the ones that best fit your philosophy and needs? IF your #1 goes, try and get your #2. If your #2 goes, try and get your #3. You make it sound like they reach into a grab bag with names on pieces of paper.
  10. I feel bad for Arnold about how his heart will break when the next GM after Hendry is worse. Either way you hire a new guy right now and he's not going to do well in time. We have some bad contracts. Might as well let Hendry ride out his guys. Yeah, so Hendry can make more moves that freeze the team....

  12. Definitely. I just think the idea that this team is playing as everyone should have expected going into the year is funny as hell. It's only funny to you because you see the outlier 2008 season as the standard, which is a very warped perception of the baseball teams Jim Hendry builds. He still only has to build a better team than the other 6 in our division. He usually has done just that. So the benchmark is occasionally squeaking by a terrible division? I'd check Hendry's winning percentage if I were you......

It's only funny to you because you see the outlier 2008 season as the standard, which is a very warped perception of the baseball teams Jim Hendry builds. You're so goofy. I love your schtick. Never change, homeslice. You always do this when you lose the argument.
  14. Now this is funny: Cardinals combined outfield is $7 mill compared to Cubs $40 mill and they have around 35 more RBI.

  16. Lamest possible excuse there is in baseball. Hitting the ball right at fielders happens so often it's not ever worth mentioning.
  17. BWAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! In MLB 2003: 20th in runs 21st in OPS 24th in OBP 21st in walks in MLB 2004: 16th in runs 9 in OPS 23 in OBP 25th in walks Top 10 MLB payroll (top 4 NL payroll) in MLB in 2005: 20th in runs 8th in OPS 20th in OBP 28th in walks top 10 MLB payroll (top 4 NL payroll) 2006 in MLB: 28th in runs 27th in OPS 29th in OBP 30th in walks Top 10 MLB payroll (top 4 NL payroll) 2007 in MLB: 18th in runs 15th in OPS 18th in OBP 26th in walks Top 10 MLB payroll (top 4 NL payroll) 2009 in MLB: 27th in runs 23rd in OPS 22nd in OBP 17th in walks Top 3 MLB Payroll (#1 in NL) Like I said, the Cubs offense under Jim Hendry is right where it should be. Crapville.
  18. Absolutely astounding. Is it really? Take a look at the offensive stats since 2003 despite having a top MLB payroll. 2008 was a complete fluke. Accept that reality. You know we are one of like 4 teams to have 4 winning seasons since 03? Do they hand out rings for that? In terms of the offense(which was the point I was making), the Cubs are right where they should be under Jim Hendry. This is not a surprise or a shock. This is how they offense has played for the last 7 years under his leadership except for 2008.

  20. A healthy Cub team playing to near their abilities blows this Cardinal team away. Wait, wait, wait...what's hilarious about what he said? You honestly think this team healthy and the players performing even just close to expected levels would not be a good team? It's Kool Aid at best. "Healthy" is a laughable excuse. Ask the Dodgers how they did when they had players out. Bottom line is that Hendry has no idea how to build a MLB caliber offense. His struggles in developing an OF after being handed Sosa and Alou are well documented. 2008 was an outlier for his tenure, even though he has had a top five NL payroll the entire time. The sooner people get over the flukey 97 win season, the better off their mental health will be in the context of Cubs baseball.
  21. A healthy Cub team playing to near their abilities blows this Cardinal team away.
  22. ahhh...this team. Worst team for the buck in MLB. Hendry should no longer have a job.
  23. The leadoff hitter doesn't control the rest of the team, good or bad. No, but a leadoff hitter should be a very consistent, "heads up" kind of hitter. Getting the guys on deck more live pitches at the beginning of the game , spraying the ball and OBP are pretty useful features for a leadoff man.
