  1. These are not robots out there. Teams can be affected in a positive fashion by energetic, smart play.
  2. Which likely means absolutely nothing. Just seeing Fuld sitting there on second base, grit literally radiating from his body, inspired Lee to crush the ball very far. Right, because getting on base is a bad thing. Can't hit a 3 run homer every time, and you especially can't hit one with no one on base.
  3. So what sparked the team in the first game of the series with the Pirates? The Pirates Are you saying Fuld has not positively impacted the team the last two games? The guy is playing smart, energetic baseball - something this team is in desperate need of. I'm not saying he can sustain this, but it *is* happening.
  4. Fuld used his powers of grit and hustle to inspire Lee into hitting that HR. No, he simply worked the pitcher I believe 9 or 10 pitches and got on base to get the inning going. Good at bats are contagious, and Soriano has terrible AB's at the top of the lineup. Do you have any idea the averages of how many pitches each of the Cubs this season take per AB? FOX! All I know is what I can see, and Fuld looks like a lead off hitter the past few days, sparking the team. If you are impressed by swinging at balls and a .290 OBP from the lead off position, enjoy.

  6. Having an actual leadoff hitter works wonders.
  7. You referring to something in particular..... or everything in general ? All the stats in this thread. Through the roof!
  8. Yeah, the offense has been bad this year. RBI totals are more a reflection of that than individual performance. Eh not really. the Cubs have been lacking top end RBI guys for quite some time. Two big run producers they don't have this year are Edmonds and DeRosa. And with Ramirez out, forget it.
  9. Whose fault is that? Per dollar, it is. Hoff and Fox are better right now, so if one is interested in what's best for the team, there's nothing wrong with that move. For the first time this season I saw Cubs players loafing it today. It's time for a major shakeup.
  10. Never has a GM done so little with so much money.
  11. Yes, the worst. Can you tell me a worse outfield making equal to, or more then 40M a year? Soriano: 18M Fukudome: 12M Bradley: 10M Absolutely the worst OF in MLB.
  12. Santo was stressing hardcore. I'm not sure I can take much more of his "why us?" shtick. Santo is still doing Cubs games? I thought for sure he would have been fired years ago for being a poor baseball broadcaster.
  13. Nice comprehensive Hendry bloop reel, OP. I enjoyed it.
  14. Omar Minaya laughs at this notion. He can't even get into the playoffs with a consistent top 5 payroll in all of the MLB and he has 3 of the ten or so best players in the majors. As bad as Omar is, he has a .550 winning percentage compared to Hendry's .519. I thought only post-season success matters? You are right, in the end that's the only thing that matters. Neither GM has succeeded in the post season.

  16. If those are the only stats you're better off assuming that player B was on a better team. Or, if I were to look at the history of those players RBI per year, I could determine that player B was a consistent run producer, and player A wasn't.
  17. Because he consistently does less with more, despite having a top five NL payroll his entire tenure.
  18. I agree. But to completely dismiss RBI's when comparing a player you traded to the player you traded him to acquire, is silly. I could easily make a strong case that DeRo has been significantly better without using RBI's in the conversation. I don't get the uproar with bringing it up. Because RBI totals prove absolutely nothing. This has been explained multiple times. It'sl ike using wins to judge pitchers it's dumb. I'll say this for the 3rd time. Loney has been very poor at the plate this season and still has 49 RBIs. That is a perfect example of why it's a garbage stat. So if player A hits 29 RBI in a season with 500 PA, and player B hits 120 RBI in 500 PA, it doesn't tell you anything?
  19. So what exactly could he have done? The Cubs team doesn't have somebody comparable to Chris Perez. . Who's responsible for that?
  20. Our lineup is garbage. Even worse is the fact we can't get rid of it. Yeah he's real good against fierce competition. Like the game winning singles to the other way lately? Honestly I think his legs are messed up. Wasn't a problem last year since he was a DH. Soto: Definitely improving Good upside for Fox, Soto is looking better. Font has been a big disappointment. It's getting to the point where the Cubs are going to have to think about grabbing another CF and moving Fuku to a bench role. I'll take a one-legged Blanco over Miles.
  21. Definitely. I agree. Look at the quality position players his farm developed all those years. Just take a look at what's his name is doing right now in MLB. What was his name again? It's at the tip of my tongue, but just can't quite grab it...
  22. Definitely. Wasn't Jimbo the director of the farm system at one point? For a brief period when the Cubs system was ranked near the top? Yeah, let's get a new GM and let him do that again. Not sure a farm system of nothing but starting pitching and .295 OBP athletic position players is the way to go again. Hendry's strength is starting pitching. I wouldn't let him touch any other aspect of drafting.
