  1. We can't blame him for the Cubs not performing in the playoffs. That's not what he's saying. He's saying it's silly to congratulate Hendyr for winning the division in 07, when really it was only because the Cubs played in an awful division. Jim built a roster that beat the competition and won the division -- that's his job. Wasn't the next highest payroll in the divison 30-40 mil back?
  2. I'd bet against it. Our leadoff spot is a very serious issue right now, but I get the direction you are heading in and I largely agree.
  3. Why would any of that matter? If you need DeRosa, you outbid the Cardinals weak offer. There's no need to wait. We know several things: 1. This offense is weak 2. The bullpen is weak Aramis Ramirez isn't going to fix either one. We know we need a decent 2B(or SS and move Theriot to 2B) and Ramirez back. We know that we need bullpen help. There's no real reason to wait for anything.
  4. No question about it.
  5. Maybe because he won't have a position to play when Aramis comes back? Unless you can magically turn him into a decent defensive middle infielder, we have no room for him. I understand you'd rather see DLee, Bradley, Fuku, or Soriano traded, but this is not a fantasy world. Well I guess it all comes down to the usual problem - our GM is terrible.
  6. The worst GM in MLB in case you ever wondered.
  7. Len Kasper, is that you?
  8. Guy can't field. When ARam comes back and all corner positions on the team are full, Fox is likely to be most valuable for what he can bring back. It's going to be tough to improve this team offensively, unless some great offensive 2B is out there waiting to be acquired for Jake Fox and a mid-level prospect. But I can always hope. The Cubs need to get in the business of keeping young sluggers, not trading them away. Keep guys like Fox and do whatever it takes to move guys like Lee, Fuku and Bradley(Soriano we are surely stuck with). Also, why are you worried about improving the team offensively and then wishing to trade Fox? A smart GM and manager knows his teams strengths and weaknesses. The team isn't very good defensively, but that isn't the reason they are losing. They are losing because they can't hit, and when they hit, the bullpen fails. Hit the ball and pitch well. It's a winning combo.
  9. Let's hope so.
  10. Doesn't Ludwick have more HR and the same RBI as Holliday this season? Plus he's much cheaper. Holiday gets on base more, but he also costs much more.
  11. We already have 3 other middle infielders who cant hit their way out of a paper bag, why not DL him and bring up someone like Fuld or Taguchi so we'll have someone to spell Fukudome in center every now and then, or even anothe pitcher, perhaps a loogy so Marshall can be uses as an 8th inning guy. hahhaha who knows.
  12. I don't like this at all. Why trade your team HR/AB leader for mediocre talent? At least package him for something bigger. Problem with Hoff is, when Aramis returns and interleague comes to an end, Hoff and Fox are both going to be difficult to work into the lineup. As I said erlier, if they do Soriano to 2nd and Fox to left, with Hoff occasioanlly fillinf in at LF, RF, and 1B that solves part of it, but I doubt that will happen. Why don't we just move our .237 RF? Oh wait, locked in for two and a half more years. Well, there's always our .228 hitting LF batting leadoff with a .298 OBP. We can move him, right? Oh.... locked in for the next five years you say? Darn. Well ,can we move our horribly slumping CF? Ah...ok. We're stuck with him for two more years. So what's a team to do with young(ish), promising cheap talent? At some point, Hendry is going to have to start eating some contracts big time. We've got $40,000 rims on a Yugo with 300,000 miles.
  13. Exactly. Milton is no saint and his performance this year has been frustrating to say the least, but this seems like a load of crap. Dempster and especially Zambrano had what sound like much worse dugout tantrums. Hell, Marmol capped his disaster today by tossing [expletive] around the dugout. I agree with these thoughts. I think Bradley is being made a scapegoat quite honestly, and it was easy for Lou to hit Bradley because of his isolation in the club house. It's starting to reak like a cowardly move.

  15. So the largest payrolls in MLB get a pass when it comes to a bad outfield because they can afford to pay more? Clearly the Cubs have a very bad outfield regardless of the contracts. Those are just the anti-freeze icing on a very pungent slice of crap cake.
  16. Jim Hendry is one of the worst GM's in MLB, period. I think Bradley is being made a scapegoat here. This is not some exciting news we are learning. This is Milton Bradley.
  17. oh i thought you were talking about the worst outfield in baseball, not the worst outfield in baseball per dollar. What's the difference? A cheap outfield is not the worst because you aren't locked into bad contracts with bad performance. Those players can be jettisoned. well then it's not surprising that you create the worst outfield in baseball for $40 million, because all you need is a couple of guys to underperform. in fact, low-payroll teams are basically assured of not having the worst outfield in baseball by your standard, so you're probably confining the number of teams that could possibly have the worst outfield in baseball to about 10 with high payrolls. at least a coupe of them is bound to make some bad commitments and be named arnold layne's Worst Outfield in Baseball. Ok, so you would prefer a bad outfield that you can't escape from versus a bad outfield that you could change within a year?

  19. I'd be more concerned if he drank beer at noon rather than this.
  20. 7 HR and 22 RBI in 131 at bats is crappy? Its not spectacular but it's better than most other Cubs.
  21. So the Braves have their entire starting outfield locked in for an average of the next 3 years?
  22. How do you create the worst outfield in 2009 MLB with $40 million?
  23. Exactly. "But Jim Hendry traded for Aram in 2003", pleaded the teary eyed Cubs fan......
  24. i think it's clear that it's in their heads right now and it's affecting them, so yeah Clearly. Except when they come back from big deficits and win games. Then it is not. Yeah those warm days at Wrigley against the Indians and Pirates are super impressive.
