  1. The first thing the Cubs should do is find a leadoff man who actually gets on base. Imagine that! That simply means moving Soriano out of the #1 spot where he doesn't belong. That .291 OBP is awesome. Fuku or Theriot should be at the leadoff position. Theriot's OBP has slipped, however. The second thing they need to do is go after some real bullpen help. Relying on Marmol and Greg isn't going to get it done, and hasn't. Cubs need another solid pen arm they can rely on. It looks like the Cubs might have to go after a SS or 2B, with Theriot defaulting to the other position which player X does not play. That said, the biggest problem the Cubs have is Hendry's inability to create a proper outfield since Sosa/Alou. A huge portion of the team salary is spent on the outfield(close to one third) and the production we are getting is garbage. Is it any surprise that the year the Cubs got closest to the WS in 50 years was when they had an outfield of Alou, Lofton and Sosa?
  2. Just a bad team lacking talent, energy and direction.
  3. The only "change coming" is what the cashier will hand to Lou for his liquor store run. The dude seems like he's in a fog.
  4. 1. Theriot 2. Fuku 3. Lee 4. Bradley 5. Soriano 6. Soto 7. Font 8. Freel That's what I would go with right now, and I would supplant RF and LF with Hoff and Fox if things do not pick up. Soriano at leadoff should be *over*.
  5. The '06 Cards were plagued by injuries. But this was largely a team who had a recent track record of being able to compete decently in the post season. In 2004, they went to the world series. In 2005, they went to the NLCS. In 2006, they won the world series. It wasn't like 2006 was some fluke. They had shown the ability to effectively compete in the post season. The 2007 Cubs and 2008 Cbs showed no such ability at any level of the game. I would say the Cubs 97 win season in 2008 was more flukey than what happened in 2006 with the Cardinals. The Cards had precedent.
  6. http://www.gatewayredbirds.com Go ahead talk about em all day then. I didn't bring up the example.
  7. The 2008 Cubs. They are going to make the playoffs everytime. The '06 Cards usually won't. The Cardinals made the playoffs and then won the world series, and you would take the 2008 Cubs, a team that failed to show up for even one inning and went home with the title "division winner"? That's some very strong kool aid there. Your posts in this thread are idiotic. Actually in most threads. And you seem rather hostile considering the rather simple and fun context of baseball here. There's no need for personal attacks when disagreeing on baseball discussions. Go outside and get some fresh air.
  8. The Cards became good when they needed to. They got the job done. They "finished". I'll take that anyday over a team that flies through the egular season and sets MLB records with nine straight playoff losses.
  9. 2008 Cubs without any hesitation. If you're asking me if I'd rather have a World Series than a playoff sweep, the answer is obvious, but the 08 Cubs would drum the 06 Cardinals. The 08 Cubs couldn't even beat the Dodgers in the NLDS, for even one game. What makes you think they could beat a world series champion?
  10. The 2008 Cubs. They are going to make the playoffs everytime. The '06 Cards usually won't. 11. Would you take the 2006 Cardinals or the 2008 Cubs?
  12. The best teams in baseball go to the world series and play each other. No they dont Wait, the '06 Cardinals wasn't the best team that year? [-X They were the best team when it mattered, yes.
  13. The best teams in baseball go to the world series and play each other. No they dont Sure they do. It's a simple palyoff system that pits teams against each other. The good teams advance.
  14. 6 games in back to back seasons of complete and utter incompetence.
  15. The best teams in baseball go to the world series and play each other.
  16. He was never going to be an everyday player. Miles was brought in to play somewhat regularly. Am I missing something? Aaron Miles, that is how you spell the name right? Yes. Just his name elicits laughter.
  17. He was never going to be an everyday player. Miles was brought in to play somewhat regularly.
  18. Does Dunn throw the ball into the bleachers with only two outs? I'll take a consistent 40 HR and 100 RBI on bad teams over an injury prone "lefty bat" who is actually better form the right side.
  19. How can you be more productive with 250 or so less AB a year?
  20. You should consider talking to somebody about your obsession with their recent playoff struggles. You realize this is a Cubs forum and that is the team's biggest hurdle in recent years, right? I guess I'm just interested in the Cubs getting to the World Series. The Cubs playoff crapiness is the single most important issue in the context of a Cubs forum.
  21. hahhaha, even God has a sense of humor. No one wants to hear Santo sing anything.
  22. I don't like to use this term, but if any team was "mentally weak", it's this Cubs team. They mirror their playoff chokiness. Don't they have the MLB record for nine straight playoff losses in a row? How does that not eventually permeate their psyche?
  23. If Lou gets his own "idiot thread", I think it's more than fitting that Hendry does as well. This guy has no clue what he is doing when it comes to anything other than starting pitching. Unfortunately you need a GM who can do more than that.
  24. Jim Hendry. Yeah. DeRosa goes yard again and is 20 RBI ahead of the highest Cub.
