  1. They have got to get better with no outs and runners on second and third, though. Did you see that stat where the Cubs only scored 65 percent of the time last season in that situation? And then they follow that by not scoring in that situation. I have no huge expectations this season, but if the Cubs want to win a few more games, it would be nice to see that stat get into MLB average territory.
  2. Wasn't everyone laughing at Melvin for the Ramirez contract last year? .300/.360/.540 He's a pretty solid GM and has made moves Greinke/Sabathia, etc. to keep them competitive despite the small market. He's got a lineup that can score runs and SP was their biggest area of need. Not really. They were laughing when he gave that money to Jeff Suppan and Randy Wolf, though. And that was without also giving up a first round pick.
  3. I can appreciate the point you are attempting to make, but you whiff big time on this. Gathright and Bynum might have been the same type players, but they weren't anywhere near as productive as Campana during their stints with the Cubs to make fans love them. Heck, Bynum had fewer stolen bases his entire career than Campana did last year.
  4. Actually, I feel the opposite. I would be stunned if the Cubs signed Bourn. I don't even think there is any real chance of it happening despite the somewhat reported interest.
  5. Me, too. With Starlin being signed through 2019 at really nice prices and us still holding a 2020 option on him, I really want nothing to do with trading him.
  6. Eh. Not concerned. Have Shark and Jackson for the long-term. Vizcaino should be ready to go by next year for sure. Then there are arms in the minors that could be ready. Not to mention the possibility of signing more guys like Feldman or Villanueva next year...or even another longer term deal. And, actually, Villanueva signed a two-year deal. So, we have a decent amount of guys locked up for next season.
  7. Wow. I know there have been rumors, but I've never really seriously considered the Cubs getting Michael Bourn. For some reason, I still don't.
  8. Is there any real chance the Cubs sign Bourn? I just haven't heard much in three weeks to make me think he's still being considered.
  9. So amidst all the legitimate celebration, the question has to be asked: Why didn't we make any of these signings last offseason? I'm starting to think they really were trying to tank year 1 for draft picks. Either that, or the Dominican facility came from payroll. Either that, or maybe they wanted to have some time on the job and see what they were facing before going nuts.
  10. Oh goody, I was afraid the piety had started to go away. You are weakening. You will come around.
  11. True. But because I knew we would sign players and/or trade for them, I knew I wouldn't have to face that.
  12. I have stated on multiple occasions that things are heading in the right direction but there was no reason to be so absurdly conservative with the timeframe for trying to make the major league team better. They did a crap job with the major league team last year and are doing better this year. I never insinuated, let alone stated, that the farm system was getting worse or the ship was heading in the wrong direction. Then you are a lot smarter than I gave you credit for, and I am encouraged that you realize we are going to be awesome.
  13. Yeah, I should have just responded with what Rob wrote and not called some stranger an idiot in my reply. But, heck, it was fun.
  14. This is idiotic. Okay. Which part do you disagree with? Do you think like they've managed to accomplish more than make this team look moderately respectable, or do you think that is an accomplishment? Signing Jackson is the type of thing this team had to do. They didn't pull off some miracle by doing that. They have money and needed to spend it. Theo Epstein was hired a little over a year ago, and during that time the organization has been gutted down and started to get built back up in a fantastic way. There have been so many quality moves the past 12 months, but I'm not going to list them all because it will fall on your two deaf ears. People like you are the bratty kids portion of the fan base. You want all the biggest toys and throw a fit when you either don't get them or have to wait a little bit to get them. If you don't see the improvement this ORGANIZATION has made in just one year, then you are an idiot.
  15. It's fun having smart guys doing things. They might not do the dumber stuff we all secretly (or not so secretly) wish they would That's some passive aggressive horse [expletive] He's entitled to rub some noses in it. He was patient and showed some faith in the front office. Rub noses in what? Nothing has been accomplished. Nothing at all. Last year sucked and it didn't have to. Please. You have started to like what we are doing, and you don't know how to react now that these warm fuzzy feelings have started to creep in. The silly bastard warning was on high for a long time around here. It has started to level off and will continue to go down until all silly bastards are on board with what we are doing.
  16. Have loved, and continue to love, our front office and what they are doing. Some of you silly bastards will realize the awesomeness at some point, too. I'm getting a feeling some already have.
  17. If it is true we signed him, this is my pick for the signing we all look back on and love. I'm a fan of CV. He will help us.
  18. This probably won't add anything to the Rizzo-LaHair discussion, but it should also be noted that Rizzo's defense for the first half will also be superior to whatever LaHair did.
  19. He'd cost us a pick, right? I suspect that was a big different on Sanchez. Edwin Jackson would not cost a pick. Washington didn't tender him.
  20. I'm ready to have my mind changed, but the discussion was about the 2013 Cubs compared to the 2012 Cubs. I would certainly hope that another 12-18 months will make a difference or else the FO has been really fooling us. Actually, I think most people thought the Cubs were closer to a 75-win team last year. Hopefully they won't underproduce this year, but I would imagine there will be another sell off at the deadline which will bring the win total down again this year. Yeah, I guess I just look at everything like Before Theo and After Theo. And I'm not going to be impatient because we haven't won a Series since 1908. Theo had nothing do to with that. So, when he took over I wiped the slate clean. And after one season of Theo and what he wants to do, I see nice progress. Progress which I believe will continue. If after his career in Chicago is done and the Cubs don't have a championship, a World Series trip or are considered one of the top franchises in baseball, than I'll be disappointed. But I don't believe that's going to happen. I'm enjoying the building of a team. That is enjoyable to watch for me. The process. The thinking. The moves and the strategy.
  21. You feel this is a 100 loss team at this point? If so, no real point in going further in conversation. Last year's team wasn't a 100 loss team at this point either. We are better now at this point than last season at this point. We have Rizzo now. Baker. Feldman. Our best pitching prospect. A new potential closer. Castro signed long term. Solar. This time last year we did have Dempster and Marshall and Cashner. I'll say we have gotten better at this point than this point last year Rizzo, Baker, and Feldman will probably underproduce LaHair, Dempster, and Maholm for 1st half production. (obviously Rizzo is an upgrade long-term) Castro signed long term is great, but doesn't add or detract from the 2013 Cubs. Our best pitching prospect and Solar are great, but neither will be helping this year's team. I will take all the things we have now over last year at this point. And I bet I can find you more than half of non championship teams that can't say the same. What does that prove? Probably nothing. But at least we are taking steps forward and not backward. Another year of this, and we will be looking even more promising
