  1. Not that it's a huge deal, but because it was discussed a few days ago, has anyone heard if Texas is paying Garza the rest of the season or if the Cubs are picking up the bill?
  2. It sounds like they only get a second guy based on who they pick from the first list. So, there might not be a second player at all.
  3. This is kind of odd. Cowlishaw pretty much lays out why he doesn't think the Rangers should have done the trade, butby the end is sort of disagreeing with himself. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/columnists/tim-cowlishaw/20130722-cowlishaw-why-rangers-fans-shouldn-t-applaud-deal-for-matt-garza.ece
  4. Not sure. Some of these guys on teams in races might decide not to admit to anything and take the suspension starting next season when the teams have a whole offseason to replace them.
  5. When does everybody think Olt gets called up?
  6. one and a half. two calendar years if you want to include the old regime drafting baez and vogelbach (and dunston). Yup, I was including Baez. And, dang, you're right, that's only two calender years.
  7. I know most prospects bust and I know this doesn't matter, but it's hard not to be excited when you look at how many highly regraded young players we have added in two or three seasons.
  8. I really thought C.J. Edwards was going to look like a C.J. Wilson. He really doesn't at all after you see his picture.
  9. Oh, screw it. I'm really excited to get Mike Olt even if it is stupid to feel that way.
  10. God, Kaplan. Just try to be intelligent, just once. I mean, there is a chance that Mike Olt will turn out to be good. Thus, Bryant would move to the OF. they're not going to move the guy they just spent $6 mil on just in case the blind guy hitting .210 in the PCL figures it out. I agree with the fact that they aren't moving Bryant off of third right now. But in the future they will if Olt in fact turns out to be good.
  11. God, Kaplan. Just try to be intelligent, just once. I mean, there is a chance that Mike Olt will turn out to be good. Thus, Bryant would move to the OF. Even if Olt turned out to be good, it'd probably be him going to the OF. Really? Because Olt has to be better than Bryant on defense.

  13. Wait. I realize that we aren't giving up Russell in the deal, but I liked the trade a few days ago were it was Garza and Russell for Edwards, Olt, Ramirez and the SS who I can't think of right now but who actually seemed really promising even though he has no power. Why not just do that one?
  14. Wow. It just hit me after all this time that dextermorgan is named after the character from the TV show and the poster's name is not Dexter Morgan.
  15. Heck, I'd think we'd almost want to see Ramirez start tonight, just to make sure he's OK.
  16. Depending on whom you want to believe, the possibility exists that the Cubs don't want Jackson. At least it means we just don't like him enough rather than we couldn't get him.
  17. Not a great read by any means, but at least it's enough to get me somewhat excited if he's included in the deal. http://www.lonestarball.com/2013/7/11/4513080/neil-ramirez-a-developing-story
  18. yeah this one: Hard to believe Nobody knows me around here to remember this, but I did ask last week about the chance of this happening and will look for full credit if somehow it does.
  19. for the past calendar year, Cespedes has been worth 3.8 fWAR with a 95 R, 29 HR, 89 RBI, 15 SB & .265/.332/.475 and 120 wRC+ line wRC+ over that same time-frame (300+ PA): DeJesus - 107 Rizzo - 106 Soriano - 106 Castillo - 95 Valbuena - 91 Castro - 86 Barney - 65 it's probably fair to argue that Cespedes would be the best hitter on our team had we signed him; i'm pretty comfortable with terming him a miss That's a tremendous way to screw with the numbers.
  20. Good post. I think everyone can agree with this, whether they like Cespedes or not.
  21. 4.6 fWar in 208 games so far. he's good. Congrats to Yoenis for having a good rookie season, considering most of that was earned in 2012. He's now 27, can't get on base, is really a corner OF rather than a CF and is a free agent after two more seasons. I don't care about him at all. Well, maybe a little, but not much. He's got a 1.6 WAR so far this season. The Cubs missed out on a useful player who would have only cost them money. I'm sure you are correct, but I keep seeing a WAR of 0.9 for this season. That said, his label has now dropped to that of "useful" rather than star or superstar. I'm quite confident if he was on our team, people would be calling him a huge disappointment with his .225 batting average and .293 on base. I know this because they say that about a 23-year-old Anthony Rizzo who has better numbers. Sorry, but Yoenis is just not that good. Useful? I guess. But useful doesn't make the baseball fan in me lose much sleep.
