  1. A team can rebuild without sucking this badly for 3 years in a row. As far as improvement next year, yeah I mean every season we think next year has to be better. At this rate, it isn't getting there. And given the ongoing delays with the renovations at Wrigley I think that timeline for attempting to be competitive is just being pushed back further and further. Like I said in my previous post, for whatever reason, I was fine with it the last two seasons. There was some crap we had to do to get this organization going in the right direction. But to almost feel like we suck even worse now than we did then is just not acceptable. It's b/c the FO is obsessed with draft picks and that they are choosing to not be successful in the big FA market. This tells me it's a financial thing and the purse strings are really tight due to ownerships debt structure. Either way, it sucks to be a Cubs fan today more so than any time in history, as crazy as that sounds. Maybe it's because I'll never turn my back on Theo, but I won't blame him. I love him too much. The people who hired him? Yeah, I'll put it all on them.

  3. It made sense to me that they didn't want to spend big on anyone except Tanaka this past offseason, but with the top prospects on track to begin arriving at the end of this year and all the money they *should* have, they better go big this offseason. I've been fine with the "suck hard until we're ready" strategy, because I was much more annoyed with the old, expensive crappy 2009-2011 teams than the teams the past couple years. But if this offseason resembles last offseason, that's just a "suck hard and hope for a miracle" strategy. 100 percent agree. I actually found the last two years to be very tolerable for whatever reason. But this one has worn on my so quickly that I'm starting to get bitter. I've never agreed with the 'Let's just spend money to spend money' thinking, but whatever it is they have to do this offseason to at make this team respectable in 2015, they damn well better do.
  4. yeah, the 100th birthday game was definitely it for me. i'll check in occasionally, but i probably saw 90% of the innings this year up to that point. no more. We would all get a major jolt if Baez did well in Triple A and came up and was exciting this summer. We'd start giving a crap again real quick. I think.
  5. Don't get your hopes up. One would think they'd try to improve this year. I was optimistic that they'd be better this but I'm not any longer. I know this isn't right considering the Cubs have been popular forever and haven't won in a century, but I start to wonder if another horrid year, coupled with another horrid two months next year, would start to have a huge impact on the fan base coming out to games. Like, a very noticeable one. Not just the expected decrease. I don't even know what I'm talking about. I hate the Brewers. I hate that the Cubs are so bad. I hate that the Brewers get to beat up on the Cubs 19 times a year and we just have to sit back and watch it happen.
  6. I'm actually one of the more positive guys toward the rebuild. But I was watching the Cards-Pirates game today, and when the Cards loaded the bases the fans all got up and started to cheer for a key moment in the game. It made me realize we don't even have a chance to do that anymore, because none of these games or moments matter. And I did start getting bitter at ownership while watching it. They need to show big improvement next year. They have to.
  7. Why? Because Mike Olt was, at one time a short while ago, a top prospect. And despite having struggles to make contact and not playing every day, he still leads the team in homers. So, I'd ask you: Why not?
  8. Maybe he's just not good enough that we should care whether he gets that playing time. Then bring up Bryant. It's an insult to my intelligence that they act like they're protecting some elite talent with Olt. Throw him to the wolves or stop pretending he's still a prospect. Right? I never interpreted their use of Olt as anything resembling "protecting an elite talent." How are they insulting your intelligence? Yeah, that whole post had me WTFing so much that I couldn't even come up with a response. It was a violent post, but I think I agreed with what he was saying: They should be playing Luis at second and Olt at third almost every day. Olt has a high chance of sucking, but in this horrid season there is no reason for him to be sitting on the bench. Ever.
  9. Jose Veras in 2012 wasn't good. So, there is that.
  10. I went searching and couldn't find any sort of update: Has anybody heard how Soler and his hamstring are doing?
  11. Hope you are right, because I hate the Brewers more than any team in baseball. Loathe them. It probably won't get any better this week since they play the Padres and Cubs at home, but I'm hoping things have to shift soon. Eventually, there will be an injury, and they don't have the depth or the minor league system to compensate. (Although I'm convinced they will be the ones to sign Morales). Plus, the bullpen has to implode at some point. All that said, this type of start is going to put them in good position, mostly because I don't think outside the Cardinals that the division is going to be that good. Plus, the Brewers have yet to have any of their games against us, so those are somewhat wins they can account for. Damn it, I hate them.
  12. OK. That's fair. I think Rizzo is good and will be a big part of our lineup and a reason why our team is hopefully good in the future. (I know, way to go out on the ledge). Now, I do think it might have to be Baez and Bryant that become the superstars, the guys in the middle of the order who hit 35 homers a year. Because I'm not sure Rizzo is going to be that guy. But damn, a Baez, Bryant, Rizzo 3-4-5 could be awesome.
  13. Well, I guess you sort of answered it by saying you don't like his face. But baseball speaking.
  14. I missed this one. You don't like Rizzo? Why is that?
  15. Yeah, I know that Kyle guy doesn't think he's any good. But I'd love for the Cubs to play him every game for the entire season just to make sure he's right. If they need to play Luis, play him at second.
  16. Actually, Starlin tearing his groin coming out of the box like Nomar would have been worse.
  17. That's odd. Oh, come on. It's subjective, but you can't seriously think it's weird that some people would already tuned out of yet another horrible team. Besides Castro and Rizzo you've get the minor stories of guys like Lake and Olt, but until Baez gets here it should be obvious why it's Snoozeville for a lot of fans. I understand the whole platoon thing, but I would be wildly more entertained if Olt and Lake played every day. I just don't care at all about watching Luis Valbuena play.
  18. Yeah, I shouldn't have done that. I love Sammy, too. Apologies to everyone on the board. Now we are best buds. Hey, you've always been my favorite.
  19. Yeah, I shouldn't have done that. I love Sammy, too. Apologies to everyone on the board.
  20. Any chance that's a picture of him when he was 18 and in high school?
  21. Technically, they are more like Bonafacio, Rizzo, Castro and pick out of a hat.
  22. I might be wrong on this and perhaps somebody will post numbers to dispute it, but isn't this trade kind of difficult to determine "who won" based on Cashner pitching in San Diego and not Chicago? I'm pretty sure his home numbers were FAR better than his road ones last season. The man is a good pitcher, but he's sort of at a big advantage pitching where he does now.
  23. Heyman just said he turned down major league deals for a minor league deal with us. I think that pretty much says he's making the team. I like hearing that. Bonifacio can be used all over the place, having been used at 2nd, SS, 3rd, CF and LF in the past few years. I also love that he provides a legit threat to steal a base on a team that doesn't have many.
  24. Was hoping they'd get him as I've always liked Bonifacio. Really hoping he makes the team.
