  1. Which is fine. It's just super weird that they are so close to us when we are spending $120 million more and also actually made big moves in July. That helped us make up 5.5 games of course, but it's still weird to us that it's this close in August. It's not that weird. We played like horsefeathers for half a season and they played way over their heads. Did you expect them to be more than half-a-game up on August 7 after they trailed by 5.5 at the break? I did not. I am very happy about that. I just.... in April I never thought we'd be trailing them by 5.5 in July or be up a half-game in August. I'm still trying to process it all.
  2. No. I got fatigued by the whole, the Brewers don't suck, the Brewers suck thing. There is nothing left to say. They had a bad stretch that happened to come during our great stretch. It feels super fortunate that it happened. But it also seemed like people thought that was the end of them, rather than a bad stretch on the road. Nope. They still suck. Which is fine. 3. I got fatigued talking about this, but people are just going to have to accept the fact that the Brewers aren't going away. It's probably going to come down to those seven games we play against them in September. You got fatigued talking about this because they squandered a 5.5 game lead already. It's probably going to come down to those seven games we play against them in September. it's not about them falling off, it's about the cubs playing to their potential and taking advantage of the soft schedule down the stretch. if the brewers continue playing at the same pace, the cubs should be able to pull away. Good point. True.

It's probably going to come down to those seven games we play against them in September. Theyre going away. Between 8/14 and 9/3 they have 3 vs Pit, 3 each against COL, SF, and LAD, and 3 each against STL and WAS. Meanwhile, we'll be having 3 each vs CIN and TOR, 3 each vs CIN and PHI, 3 vs PIT AND 4 vs ATL. They will be 6 out when thats over and itll be September 3rd and they still wont be very good. Actually I think they host Washington for four (not three) at the end of this month and early Sept. I think. Most agree with you, so that's good. It's also weird that by Thursday they will have played four more games than us. Which offers a little bit more of a challenge. I have no idea how they are up that many games. I don't remember us having a lot of rainouts.

  7. he's right i'm not trying to defend the decision to use carl there. i'm just trying to squint hard enough to see what he's saying is all He's saying that not only was the result a failure, but even worse so was the process.
  8. Baseball can be so fascinating. Montgomery got a K to start the inning, and then Harper made such soft contact but still got on. I wish Harper wouldn't have gotten on. Things could have been different.
  9. A pretty disappointing weekend. Facing Roark, Jackson and Fredde was really fortunate but the club just couldn't quite take advantage.
  10. counterpoint - when you look like you hit a pop up and actually hit an oppo HR, you're pretty horsefeathering strong For sure. I just meant none of Willy's have been ones where you have to wait a second to make sure it goes out. The good news is that both count the same.
  11. The fascinating thing about all of his dongs is that every single one of these have been absolute no-doubters.
  12. I prefer to see KB do something magical here and hit a dong rather than whiff on a bad pitch or something.
  13. Maybe it's just for this weekend so we have a bunch of leftys for Harper and Murphy. But I'm probably wrong.
  14. Why not both? It's a day game after a night game for one. Also because Contreras is one of the hottest hitters in MLB and he's a much better defender behind the plate. Willson could play in LF still, but the day game after the night game makes us agree with you.
  15. It's awful and frustrating, but you almost have to do it. Wins are really important to pitchers still. Like, really important.
  16. I don't understand how you can watch sports for most of your life and not realize how the sports media world operates. They are writing these stories today specifically so they can have a doozy of a "wow did these guys ever choke" story in their back pocket if/when the Dodgers come up short. Disagree. They are writing these stories today because it gives them something to write about today. It's a long season in sports. You worry about today as a journalist. As far as the future, either story is going to be there. They choke, you can write about that. They win it all, well, that's easy to write, too.
  17. Technically It would more go Ray, Godley, Walker, Greinke, Ray.
  18. Great job by Duker, too. Said the Cubs could be up by a couple games at the end of July.
  19. Wrong Rivera. The catcher is Rene.
  20. Nice work, Carl. This game feels very labored. But it's probably just me.
