  1. That's cool. We will all have different emotions. You will be disappointed. I'll be annoyed and embarrassed. Either way, we both will be wondering why the Cubs sucked so bad when they shouldn't have.
  2. You're responding to something that nobody said. I just said I too want them to win the division. Meaning I want them to win the division. But the fact remains that if we can't win a crappy division then it goes down as an embarrassing season considering the talent we have compared to the others. And in that case, why would I feel disappointed? I'd feel annoyed and embarrassed. it was obviously the sentiment of what you said. what is your end game here? Let me make this more clear. I want the Cubs to win the division. If they can win the division with 82 wins, I'll take it. I'll be bored, but I'll take it. If the Cubs don't win the division, they will have been beaten out by a legitimately bad team. Therefore, I won't be sitting there disappointed. I'll be sitting there going, "wow, that's totally embarrassing that we sucked that bad." The only way we lose the division is if we suck. The Cubs hold all the cards. I'm not going to worry about what the other teams do because if we take care of business, it doesn't matter. And if we don't, then screw us.
  3. I too would like to win the division. But if we can't win it over three crappy teams, I can't imagine I'll feel disappointed. More embarrassed. Bottom line? The Cubs are playing sucky but have big-time talent. If they play up to their potential, they will win the division by 7 games. If they continue to play like they are bored, then one of those three sucky teams will win the division and the Cubs and their underachieving asses can go away for a few months. An alternative is the Cubs continuing to play like they are bored, like they have all year, and winning a tight race, as they currently are. Default? The two sweetest words in the English language. That's fine by me, too.
  4. Explain yourself. saying that you have no interest in winning the division if they only win like 85 games is dumb and you know that you don't actually feel that way. it's like at the beginning of the season when david was saying that if the cubs didn't get off to a scorching start, that he didn't care about their record being good at all. you're trying too hard. You're responding to something that nobody said. I just said I too want them to win the division. Meaning I want them to win the division. 5. The other three teams suck. If one of them happens to win over us, then by that point we will have realized that we sucked even worse than a sucky team. Tough to feel too disappointed in that case. Well, sure. If we suck more than three sucky teams, then it would be disappointing. But the point remains that those teams suck. And I still think we are better. I can still hold those convictions, while acknowledging that we are in a race now. We've been in a race the whole season. When we got 5.5 back, we were always going to be in a race. So, now I want us to win this race against those sucky teams. I too would like to win the division. But if we can't win it over three crappy teams, I can't imagine I'll feel disappointed. More embarrassed. Bottom line? The Cubs are playing sucky but have big-time talent. 6. Why would you care? Because I'd like to win the division? The other three teams suck. If one of them happens to win over us, then by that point we will have realized that we sucked even worse than a sucky team. Tough to feel too disappointed in that case.
  7. I just spent 10 minutes trying to upload an avi but nothing seems to fit within the standards needed. Will continue to effort.
  8. Just get Posey to ground into a DP, and it's all good.
  9. Wait. What? I can't recall bitching that much, certainly not enough to be called out for it. i thought you had been. i guess it could have been "flythew" or the other guy. everyone should get avatars and make it easier. if you haven't i apologize, though The least I can do is look into getting an avatar.
  10. I don't get it. We can't make jokes? sure. when people are actually joking. you've bitched and moaned about the cubs in the semi-short cold streak more than enough. it's tiring. Wait. What? I can't recall bitching that much, certainly not enough to be called out for it.
  11. 59-53 Cubs aren't either. enough already I don't get it. We can't make jokes?
  12. Good. Now predict some Cubs success in this game, please.
  13. Joe seems to be frustrated lately. He's normally a "everything in fine, no worries" kind of guy but lately he's been pretty critical in pointing out issues the team is having He's got his hometown pissed off at him: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-joe-maddon-hazleton-megyn-kelly-interview-20170808-story.html THE HAZLETON CURSE IS BORN. So as soon as he wins a game the curse is broken? Man, that resident made it way too easy.
  14. Joe thinks they are playing like the first-half Cubs again. Let's hope they cut it out. Rizzo might have pulled a Duker. The Cubs are 2-5 since he proclaimed they were fixed.
  15. I know earlier in the year when they were struggling, they were seeing in the same range of pitchers per plate appearance and also walking at a similar rate as last year. I would assume those have stayed about the same since we are playing better. If you want to use that as a gauge for "quality abs." The situational hitting has been worse but the RISP hitting has already started to bounce back. Yeah, I was talking more about walk rate rather than RISP hitting. I feel like we haven't worked pitchers much and haven't "accepted" walks for like two months, but I also know I'm talking out of my ass and the numbers wouldn't show that.
  16. I have a question that I don't have an answer to which is why I'm asking all the knowledgeable people here: is the overall at-bats this season a lot crappier than 2016 or pretty much the same?
  17. people who use sports messageboards/twitter almost exclusively to complain is something i don't really begin to understand like why is this even your hobby I'll never understand it. To Schwarber Fan's credit, he does complain in practically every game thread. But to just pop in and spout off and then disappear for a month until things are going poorly again... lol There were people that did it with the 103-win World Champion Cubs, too. I think it's just a way to vent because it means so much to them. When things are going well, there is no need to use the board as therapy. Or maybe not.
  18. Last post from CincyCubsFan before tonight: July 14, or also the day the Cubs started a 14-3 stretch. :-k people who use sports messageboards/twitter almost exclusively to complain is something i don't really begin to understand like why is this even your hobby This is interesting to think about. I have always considered the Cubs to be far more than a hobby for me. More like a part of the family, where you don't have a choice but to love them even when they piss you off or disappoint you.
