  1. With the Yankees losing out on Cliff Lee, the pressure will be growing for them to acquire another pitcher. A perfect storm for the Cubs. Trade Zambrano to the Yankees for prospects. Z is reunited with Girardi, Rothschild and maybe Prior. We get addition by subtraction, as we lose that bloated salary.
  2. I wish him well. I see his point that he may have felt his Cubbie heritage would move him to the front of the line, but now he has to go elsewhere. I hope he succeeds.
  3. Steady declining numbers for 3 years in Games and IP. The poster child for overpaid broken down throwers.
  4. My God...Hendry must be stopped NOW. To even harbor ONE thought of bringing back Wood is ridiculous. Jeez..I suppose Chad Fox will again be invited to spring training also. Hendry has these 'good relationships' with broken down players looking for another payday and he's more than willing to give it to them. He's terrible.
  5. Great post!!!! If I hear David Kaplan say one more time : "The next Cub manager should understand the Cubs history." it makes me want to drive a stake thru his heart. What history? 102 years of losing history? Years of being the doormat? This franchise wallows in the 1969 history. Ernie, Fergie, Santo, Billy, Hundley..blah..blah. That was 41 years ago. I want a GM, manager, ownership and players who could care less about that and want to win today..each game and not take a nap during May-September.
  6. I'm pretty underwhelmed by Team Ricketts at this point. I think all of us thought that this group of younger owners would hit the ground running on Day One. They would have done their homework PRIOR to officially taking over and then implement the changes immediately. What we got was the same old same old. Oh right..they moved Harry's statue and fired the promotions guy. That's the progress we got.
  7. Those are theoretical possibilities, not Jim Hendry telegraphs his next move as blatantly as anybody in baseball possibilities and refuses to play coy because he doesn't want to hurt anybody's feelings. Hendry continues to put himself and the Cubs into these terrible situations-longterm contracts he can't unload and players that no one wants-no matter the price. If you're Dunn's agent or any other potential FA and you understand the pressure to put a Cubs playoff team on the field in 2011, your demands shoot up. Hendry must be fired immediately so that the next GM can start rebuilding now.
  8. AH..No Sammy listed. So anyone who says he 'walked out of the game' is incorrect. Case closed.
  9. He was on the roster and eligible to be used in the game. It's his job to be there. That's a big deal. While you are correct, it could have been worse. The Cubs were mathematically eliminated, and even if Sammy would have gone 4-4 with 3 HR's and 8 RBI that day, it wouldn't have made a damn bit of difference in the grand scheme of things. All true. But he still loses credit for "always being ready to play" or whatever. Did you find that lineup card or box score for the game that 'Sammy walked out on'? It's a simple request.
  10. Read your own post better, ace. If you can't prove it and you can't, then stop making such absurb statements.
  11. Show me what game Sammy "walked out in the middle of" where he was in the starting lineup and was actually playing? Go ahead..I'll wait. We cut major slack for ARam who doesn't hustle all the time and has mental lapses. We give Big Z break after break for his antics. But Sammy? If Sammy had done a 'Pippen' and refused to go out and play, he would be crucified. But he didn't.
  12. Sammy has been treated poorly by the Cubs and it's Hendry's doing. The one thing I'll remember about Sammy was he never wanted to sit out. In one five season stretch he played in the following games: 162, 159, 162, 156 and 160. That's pretty impressive. As we get closer to the 5 year wait for the HOF being over, it's unusual that his name has not been mentioned much on the roids issue. Yes, I think he did them but no one has come forward.
  13. I strongly disagree that our farm system is good. It's mediocre. Hendry can not evaluate talent and that translates into the type of players we seem to always draft. Power pitchers who don't have control. Smaller players with no power and no speed. College players from LSU, Notre Dame, etc..that were picked by us because Hendry is friends with their coach. Give me some power hitters, draft pitchers not just hard throwers and players that know the fundamentals.
  14. The Orioles used to play John Denver's 'Thank God I'm a Country Boy' during their 7th inning stretch. Nuthin' like seeing a bunch of obese Baltimorons dancing and clapping.
  15. Nothing's changed. Even odds on the DL or Witness Protection Program.
  16. he's been hurt a lot. but yeah, he's been bad News to few but the enablers. $56M for 22 wins in 7 years. Nice.
  17. Many holdup men wear masks. Some have bowling nights.
  18. Not unless Girardi has a boo-boo. 14 times on the DL and counting.
  19. What success? I don't see any at Wrigley. And that's my point. We seemed to have been in the Far East a number of years now with scouts and all that and little to show for it.
  20. Tim-I know that some teams(Dodgers and Seattle) value their Far East scouting and have had success, but I don't think the Cubs are good at it. Fukudome has been a disappointment and Hee Seop Choi couldn't get out of other players way. We've had catching and pitching suspects who languish at A or AA. Are we missing out on the really good ones or just not enough to around?
  21. Two words: Chad Fox Hendry should be fired and let a new GM pick the new Mgr.
  22. Amen, Hendry must be fired today. I don't know what Ricketts is waiting for and why it's gotta be in the TRIB. Is he waiting for the All-Star break? Why? I thought with Pedroia out for Boston, that they would be interested in Theriot. And weren't the Twins interested in trading their #1 catching prospect for Cliff Lee? Why not offer Lilly?
  23. Hilariously wrong. Check your facts. ARAM's contract says he can walk at the end of 2010. Why would he want to stay here at all?
  24. This has gone far enough. Certainly he has seen enough to know what he hasn't got. Do we have to endure another 3 months and then he takes action? Cripes, Koyie Hill is the spokesman for this team and I can't stand to see him talking with a "0-3, 2 K's" graphic underneath. Jeez..Fire Hendry and Lou already. Back up the truck and unload Lee, Theriot(how about to the RedSox?), ARAM(he will probably opt out at year's end anyway)..blah..blah..you all know who needs to go. I'm just surprised that Tom hasn't come out of hiding and put the hammer down.
  25. 5 months in Afghanistan and I come home to this? My..my..if only you had listened to me on Dec. 21, 2009 when I told you to trade Zambrano: Addition by subtraction. I would absolutely trade Z, but don't know if Hendry has the smarts or a plan to pull it off. I don't want poor contracts and some banjo-hitting second baseman back in return. This is just our luck. Extra inning game on the west coast to tax the bullpen..fly back home for a day game against the Sox and then our highest paid pitcher goes one freakin' inning..taxing the bullpen again. What more does Tom Rickettes have to see..80 more games? Blowup this team and Lou and Hendry now!!!
