  1. No one remembers Dave Smith? 0-6, 6.00 era, $1,900,000 in 1991?!?
  2. They are former players of mine from High School s65cf. I always call them my kids. Very cool. You must have a bunch of kids to follow, I would think. That has to be gratifying to you. 8)
  3. I don't know any other boards but a BIG congratulations for your sons being picked!
  4. I can't believe I just went back to around page 60 of this thread just to read OleMissCub's posts. Great stuff. Would have loved to have been reading this live. ROFL type posts. Thanks OMC
  5. I don't like the DH at all. That being said, if baseball was to have had the DH in both leagues to start with, no one would have ever seen Babe Ruth ever swing a bat. Futhermore, as a former (high school) pitcher I'd really be bummed out if I could never get a PA. I'd even consider moving to 3rd or any other position to get an at bat.
  6. My Cubs watch has it's face broken but still works. I haven't worn it since the NLCS...yeah, that one. When I get home I'll put it on. Things have been horrible since then.
  7. That's a winning combination. I guess you'll be wearing it fairly often. 8)
  8. Yup, doing extremely well with men on and RISP also. Cool site, thanks Rob.
  9. It will also be your last if the Cubs don't go off tonight! :x ...   and so it is said so shall it be done.
  10. My first fearless prediction, the offense this game will surprise people in a good way, i.e. 5+ runs
  11. and if you smoke that paper...... \:D/ Unfortunately, it would probably have the same effect as smoking hemp rope. :(
  12. Awesome! Thanks, Len. I shoulda TiVo'd the game. I always say I'm going to record the games I go to but I don't think I ever have. Interesting, I never quite realized that.
  13. Haha. Yeah, we'll probably have to convert one of our starting pitcher to a reliever, and one of our reliever to be a closer, since we don't have a closer yet. That's cool, I'll take the demotion to a reliever / closer spot so long as I get my innings. But realize manager that you'll be pulling a southpaw out of the rotation, so I'll leave the final decision to you.
  14. Ooooh. Good one. I thought they picked him in the rule 5 draft from the Astros? The Marlins picked him up via rule V and agreed with Terry Ryan to trade him to the Twins for Jared later. I think that how it happened. It seems odd that the Twins just didn't just pick him up themselves though.
  15. Marlins trade Johan Santana to the Twins for Jared Camp and cash.
  16. More than 10 years ago. My bad, I'm at work and trying to do too many things at once.
  17. Delino DeShields for Pedro Martinez. :!:
  18. A little over 6 feet tall, 185 lbs, a converted left handed :?: 3rd baseman. Switch hitter. I never understood a left handed 3rd baseman but after only 1 season the coach switched me to pitching. And because I was converted to pitching doesn't mean I just draw any comparisons to Foster  . I'm sure I could close but was never given the opportunity. My pitches are a fastball, knucklecurve, and changeup. I could throw the knuckeball but just wasn't consistent enough with the location for my own liking. Boy when thrown correctly, it was fun to see it dancing and the the look on the hitters faces was priceless, trying to calculate when and where to swing.
  19. Darn, I got hijacked reading Ole Miss Girl Troubles  only to come to the gamethread and see Rusch getting clobbered. :x It's alright, it's still early. Let's get some runs!
  20. What's the story behind it? I'm not sure of the details, however, Ned Colleti worked for the Cubs for 12 years then worked for the Giants. I believe he had a run in of sorts with Baker while there. Now that he is with the Dodgers, he seemingly doesn't want to work with, or deal with the Cubs. I'm sure someone else can fill you in better.
  21. So is this why Sandberg almost never swung at the first pitch thrown? Growing up and watching the Cubs I never understood why pitchers just didn't groove a strike on the first pitch to Sandberg, because he never swung at it. However, IIRC most were called balls.
  22. LOL, good one Tim.
  23. Very cool, thanks. 8) Three hours, darn that's less than a trip to Vegas. Interesting...
  24. Great stuff! One more reason to take a trip to TN. I don't know if the DJAXX are a good enough reason to pack the family and move, but there is an opening in Bowling Green KY. :-k Darn, I wish the Wife was a Cub fan. I'm working on it though. Any chance anyone would know how far it is from Bowling Green to Jackson? Is it a hard drive? Thanks in advance.
  25. It kind of reminds me Borgie, at cubs.com and here. He kept making a last post and coming back. Which is unfortunate, because I liked his posts and he was an informed poster.
