  1. If we don't throw at his head the first time we play him, Maddon needs to be fired.
  2. @BestFansStLouis RTing some gold. [tweet]https://twitter.com/carecopterdown/status/939000007079772160[/tweet] [tweet]https://twitter.com/Joshelam24/status/938988878446260226[/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] etc. etc.
  3. Where are you getting this? 5.1 fWAR in 6 "seasons" but fWAR doesn't like GB guys who don't strike many out. Got it. Didn't realize there was that big a difference from BR.
  4. Where are you getting this?
  5. Why is that a hot take? Because there's nothing the slightest bit puzzling about it. You can not like Chatwood, but this move replaces Lackey with a younger, cheaper pitcher who was twice as valuable as Lackey last year.
  6. 37BB in 70.1IP at Coors 40BB in 77.1IP away So it doesn't seem like that's the problem. The walks and low innings are the only things I don't like. Hopefully the control is something Hickey can improve.
  7. When Eric Ludwick showed up in the second act, it was a spiritual experience for me. And I know no one irl who would begin to understand the serendipity.
  8. This. Eventually he will approve to the Giants, just not sure when. Hopefully it drags out and screws up the rest of the Cardinals' offseason.
  9. For my part, I was just looking for a way to work in that scene from The Office.
  10. Mariners will be the frontrunners until the meeting. After listening to Ohtani’s rep speak Japanese for 10 minutes: Dipoto: Yeah. Here's the deal. I did not understand this was supposed to be a full on... like report or whatnot. I was under the impression this was, more of like... a meet and greet type deal.
  11. I wonder if Theo/Ricketts have the resources for some sort of Lex Luther solution to the west coast problem.
  12. Not sure how or if erections will win him over, but whatever works.
  13. Yea but Happ >>>>> Soler Happ this year is greater than Soler by a decent amount. This year's Happ versus last year's Soler is a lot closer debate than some may think. I think this year's Happ is ahead, but it's not by that much to make a discussion about it moot. How do you figure? Soler’s only value was with the bat, and even there Happ was far ahead of him. Soler is a liability in the corner outfield, while Happ has an average’ish glove at premium positions. Happ also has more speed and does not have Soler’s history with injuries. Soler was one of my favorites because he had such majestic dongs, but his value was nearly all in potential, which was not looking nearly as promising by the end of last year.
  14. i could swear matt spiegel fishes this board for ideas [tweet] [/tweet] i know this could easily be a coincidence but it's not the first time i've heard him come up with ideas on their show that we have kicked around here that haven't been all over cubs twitter and whatnot. I was just listening to this segment, he was cool with a Russell and Happ or Almora trade for Britton and Gausmen and then hope to sign Machado for SS next year. What the hell?!? And it would make sense I guess if he’s fishing here for ideas to pander off as his own. He’s not gonna get checked by a twitter guy or whatever for “stealing ideas” most likely and it can be “original” and generally speaking most of our ideas are semi reasonable/realistic. Oh man those suckers would have egg on their faces after getting fleeced in a Russell/Happ for Gausman/Britton trade. What an idiot.
  15. Not that 3rd place in ROY voting matters, but I don't understand all the votes for Bell. Happ, Marquez, and Hoskins were all better.
  16. I hate the idea of trading Russell or Schwarber who seem very likely to increase their value this season. Happ and Baez seem about as high as their value is going to get. I’d like to trade one of them (preferably Happ since I’m not as attached to him) for a Gausman/Teheran type. Keep Russell as part of the core and trade Schwarber after his 40hr/950ops season to make room for Harper. Can we please have an off season without people thinking of Teheran as an attractive target? Maybe when he stops being one?
  17. Probably just Stroman but as I’ve made clear I’d rather go a different route and keep Russell. I hate the idea of trading Russell or Schwarber who seem very likely to increase their value this season. Happ and Baez seem about as high as their value is going to get. I’d like to trade one of them (preferably Happ since I’m not as attached to him) for a Gausman/Teheran type. 18. I'd really like Watson at 2/12.
  19. I don't consider the Dodgers interchangeable with the Indians. Going by RIIGHT NOOW: The Dodgers have Kershaw (yeah, ok), Old Man Hill (who can barely throw over 100 innings and will be 38, which is old), Wood (who is ok but seems to get hurt a lot), Maeda (who isn't good), and a few guys who may or may not be alive. The Cubs have Hendricks (the young wolf), Quintana (the young Lester), Lester (the old Lester), Montgomery (the young Rich Hill - I was surprised to learn that Montgomery only pitched 5 fewer innings than Hill and was worth .3 more wins) Even if you throw Tseng in the 5th spot, that's still probably an above average rotation. There are several teams with a more solid current 5, "rotation collapse" just seemed really dumb to me.
  20. I think 8th is fair, I was just annoyed at him being a lazy douche. Starting with him basing the top of his rankings on 1 game. He would have had the Dodgers #1 if they had won last night, and the Indians (who should probably be #1) are only #3 because of a 5 game series. It's pretty obvious the top 3 on that list, especially right now, are basically interchangeable. so griping about which of them is technically #1 is REALLY splitting some hairs. It's ridiculous to think that the Cubs' pitching situation right now at the time this list was made is really comparable with almost all of the teams ahead of them. You guys are getting really worked up over a really early power ranking based on how the teams are made up RIGHT NOW that has the Cubs as one of the best teams in baseball. Is that guy your dad or something?
  21. I think 8th is fair, I was just annoyed at him being a lazy douche. Starting with him basing the top of his rankings on 1 game. He would have had the Dodgers #1 if they had won last night, and the Indians (who should probably be #1) are only #3 because of a 5 game series. And the Cubs are only in danger of a rotation collapse any more than any other team if they try to replace Arrieta and Lackey in-house, which obviously isn’t going to happen. They have 2 of the best young’ish pitchers in the league. The whole thing was just lazy and pushing an already-established sports media narrative.
  22. Eh; none of that seems too egregious. Everything he says is technically true, his tone and conclusions are just really dumb. He begins with "Look," which tells you he's a douche. "Look, I'm about to lay down the exact hot take I've seen everyone else running with." Then he lists not paying John Lackey $17m as a bad thing. His argument is basically, if the Cubs don't replace Arrieta and Lackey + Jon Lester sucks, their rotation will collapse. Also, if Schwarber is historically awful like he was in the first half, that will be bad. He's just trying way too hard to paint a bleak picture. We are losing 2 players who matter, with $35m in payroll cleared up. Despite a decent amount of injuries and a terrible first half, we won 92 games, had the 2nd best record in baseball the 2nd half, and made it to the NLCS again. And that leads him to "Look, things ain't pretty, sports fans."
  23. It’s a good thing St. Louis already had a GM when Theo became available. Obviously would have been his first choice.
  24. I don't have a very exciting life, no need to be a dick about it.
