  1. Get Kurcz up to Peoria. He's probably bored to tears with those children in Boise.
  2. I like Harris's 60 k's in 49 IP. Although he does have 22 BB. No HR, though. I can see him being a pretty good reliever. He put up really good numbers last year, too. Only pitched 17 innings, but had 24 K's and a 1.04 ERA.
  3. Lopez is only 19 and in low-A. His numbers look decent, I guess it all depends on scouting for him. I get the impression he has good stuff with bad control. Harris looks like he could be a very good reliever. Lorick is putting up fairly good numbers but he's a 22 year old in low-A (I think it's low). Meh. I'll have to wait on the scouting report for Lopez. If he's got some promise, along with Harris, I'd say not bad.
  4. Hopefully they're financially motivated to not field [expletive] teams anymore. Seeing as how this isn't even the first time Hendry has pulled off the "one of the worst records while being one of the highest payrolls" trick, I don't know how they can even consider letting him keep his job. He really is an embarassment.
  5. To be blunt, it's not a good option. This team needs all the help it can get on offense, but I really don't see where that saved money could go to help the offense aside from 1B (unless Ramirez leaves). Yeah, there really isn't a whole lot else to spend the money on. Cliff Lee is about the only non-1B free agent that would help us a whole lot - maybe Hawpe if we trade Fukudome and the Rockies don't pick up the option (this coming after I spent about 3 minutes looking at the list of free agents, so I may have missed some). Dunn is easily number 1 on my wish list. I was basically just thinking out loud about what the best in house option would be and not really thinking about the big picture.
  6. Some combination of LaHair, Canzler, Hoffpauir, and Snyder probably could yield replacement level production out of 1B. However, that's not much of an upgrade from Lee this season, if at all. It would, however, be a big downgrade in money. I think a Canzler/Snyder or Canzler/Colvin platoon could be pretty effective, with Colvin/Snyder also serving as 4th OF and Canzler as backup 3B. And if we could use the saved money to upgrade elsewhere, I think it's a win. My preference is still to sign Dunn for 1B though. Setting aside that I'm very skeptical that some combination of LaHair, Canzler, Hoffpauir, or Snyder could be all that useful, especially at 1B, where do you go with that extra savings? If Ramirez is back, then the only other spot where there isn't an incumbent is 2B. I guess if you wanted a SP that's an option too, but we're losing Lilly's money as well. My original thought was just as a backup plan in case we can't sign and upgrade for 1B and don't resign Lee. Canzler/Snyder or Canzler/Colvin is the best in house option I can think of.

  8. Yeah, they're incredible. They have a great lineup plus Carpenter, Archer, Dolis, and Rusin all in the starting rotation. That's sick. Plus they barely have any fillers. Also, I'd like to see Canzler and Snyder get some starts at 1B to see how they do. I think they could both at least match Lee's production if we don't sign a good FA. get some starts in the bigs or the minors? much as i am intrigued by russ' season, probably too early for him to jump to the majors now. I meant in the minors before the season ends...although they only have a few games left, don't they? They were just two guys that came to mind who could probably hit enough to fill it at 1B if we couldn't find a better FA option.

  10. Question for smart people: Does anyone know if Kurcz projects as a starter or if he's more likely to stay in relief. He's been insanely good so far and I'd be interested to see how he does as a starter.
  11. McNutt's last 4 starts: 17.2 IP - 1 ER - 20/1 K/BB - 9H The only ER and BB came in the start where he only went 1.2 IP due to a blister. I have high hopes for this young man.
  12. That's how he seems to me. I don't like him playing CF over Jackson at all, unless it is somehow injury related. Campano should never in any way get in the way of Jackson's development.
  13. I saw that, but it just seemed like a really weird sentence. I didn't know if you were trying to say "Castro is leading the race" or "Castro is in second place." How is that unclear? It means he's ahead of Heyward. I take issue with "JHey" because that's dumb, but in a thread titled "Castro vs. Heyward", this was a solvable mystery.
  14. Hi, nice to meet you. They call me NO ONE!!!
  15. Reed is still 18, pitching great, and there are good reports about his stuff. My superior knowledge of gut feelings will give me the last laugh. Plus since nobody else seemed like a real sure-fire top 10 guy, I thought I'd dig deep into my gut instead of putting somebody like Coleman or Barney. It was down to him, Sczurz, Kurcz, and Kirk.
  16. This is a mixture of my limited knowledge of stats and my superior knowledge of gut feelings. 1. Brett Jackson 2. McNutt 3. Archer 4. Vitters 5. Lake 6. Jay Jackson 7. Lee 8. Rhee 9. Carpenter 10. Reed
  17. McNutt continuing to show why he's my favorite pitching prospect.
  18. I'm not sure about Dewitt having more upside. When Johnson was Dewitt's age he had an OPS of .831. He has much more upside than Theriot, but unless his offense improves, he basically is Theriot.
  19. Remarkably few fans understand the concept of trading for prospects when the season is shot.
  20. Did you know you would get a rise out of some folks when you posted your prospect rankings? Yeah I thought you did. It would have been the same thing if he said something like, "and you're stupid if you disagree."
  21. I see little to no chance that they let Cashner go back to starting and that boggles my mind.
  22. Replacing Theriot with Dewitt is good, but I would have rather had Johnson. With giving $2m, I think we should have gotten more for Lilly, but I'm liking what I'm seeing on Wallach. This seems ok.
  23. I was all pumped to trade Lilly, but now that it seems like it's actually happening I don't want him to go. He's been so good for us and just an all around badass. He's in the DeRosa category of guys that I just really liked having on the team.
  24. He's a better option at 2B than Fontenot, Theriot, or Baker. I'd happily take him in exchange for Theriot/Russell. I don't know that I'd want him over DeWitt, though. Is Dewitt a lot better defensively or something?
  25. When word came out that we could get him for Theriot. That's a helluva swap.
