  1. I wouldn't put him anywhere near the top 10. He's 23 in A+ with and OPS of .754. Not terrible but not really thrilling. I don't know anything about his defense but if it's good I could see him as an eventually back up on a major league team. I wouldn't expect anything more than that.
  2. Oh heaven forbid somebody make a snide remark about a top draft pick who is playing like crap. Not sure where this adjustment supposedly happened, he's been crap since the callup. I guess one must always assume that a top Cubs pick who isn't performing eventually will perform because the Cubs saw fit to promote him despite a lack of performance. A few is 3-7, I think, or something. He should probably still be at Daytona (where he was doing very well while being young for the league) but the fact that he was aggessively promoted isn't his fault. Also, snide remarks are annoying unless they're funny and/or not completely stupid.
  3. I root for the Pacers by default, but they aren't going to be good for the next 50 years. So I want the Bulls to sign Lebron, Wade, and then have Dirk "accidentally" leave his contract in the pocket of his sweatpants when he washes them...and then sign him. And Dwight Howard. Yeah.
  4. So the person who said "don't Vitter out on us" after a guy goes 0-3 with a BB is the smart one? Noted. Also, to "Vitter out" apparently means to be very young for your league and to struggle at first when promoted aggessively, but then adjust nicely after given a few months to figure things out.
  5. Not necessarily. He's fine to have out there as a cheap player with mediocre to decent production if you're adding an Adrian Gonzalez at first base & such. He's the kind of player where you take advantage of any cheap production he can provide, then if he doesn't grow as a player, you trade him or non-tender him when his price starts to grow. Kinda like Theriot. This is my thinking. If he can provide cheap, adequate production that allows us to spend more elsewhere, then I'm happy with him.
  6. However, I am starting to worry about Jackson. I mean, he only got on base one time last night. You know who else had games where they only got on base once? Corey Patterson. And probably Hitler, too.
  7. I hope this post is suppose to be stupid.
  8. Really glad to see McNutt with a good performance in just his second start.
  9. I'm trying not to sound "anti-Colvin" because I'm not. I like him and think he can be productive, I just think it's better for his development right now to keep him in more limited, favorable matchups instead of playing him every day. Give him a chance to build some confidence while continuing to work on his approach. I wasn't referring to you, you always seem pretty reasonable. I was partly referring to this thread and partly to other posts I've seen over the past couple months. A lot of it seems really over the top and is just as stupid as someone saying he's the next Billy Williams.
  10. Why are some people so oddly obsessed with making sure nobody thinks Colvin is any good? It's very creepy. He's a 25 year old first round draft pick who is having his second consecutive good season. I don't see much hope that he'll be a super star or even an all-star caliber player, but it seems perfectly reasonable that he could provide .800+ OPS for very cheap for a few years. That could be a very valuable asset if we get a GM who can take advantage of the financial flexibility that creates. Apparently the only evidence that he's terrible is that the month he played more, his OPS was only a little bit better than everyone else instead of a lot better. Can't people just be excited that we might have a cheap, serviceable player instead of being wierd?
  11. It's a machine that controls the internet. It edits scouting reports and minor league stats to make the Cubs prospects look good. It even brainwashed poor Billy Beane. It's pretty badass. Word on the street is that it even has racing stripes and a spoiler.
  12. Actually that's very very very far from a fact.
  13. Good day for Jackson, Vitters, and Carpenter. Jackson: 3-4 2 2B, BB, SB Vitters: 2-4 2B, BB Carpenter: 5 scoreless, 5 H, 3/3 BB/SO It's nice having exciting guys in the minors. With Cashner, Castro, Colvin and Stevens already contributing, if a couple of B. Jackson, J. Jackson, Vitters, Archer, McNutt, Carpenter, Lee, Diamond, Flaherty can become solid major leaguers in the next 2-3 years we should have a nice core of players. Mix that with shedding some of our deadweight payroll and the hope for a decent GM that can take advantage of the big budget, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel.
  14. Another 2B for Jackson. Plus 2 more RBI's. This guy seems good at baseball.
  15. You kind of proved my point. I'm glad imb was able to prove your point, because you're not doing a very good job of it.
  16. Me too. I find it hard as a fan to hope that my team loses though. It's a delicate balance for me. When I'm watching a game, I'm hoping they win. But I also like seeing that they're sliding further in the standings instead of hovering around .500. I pretty much just hope that Castro, Colvin, Cashner, Soto, Marmol, Marshall, and any other young guys that are in the bullpen on a given day do good.
  17. Before the season I was trying to convince someone that the White Sox would suck this year. They countered with "They'll be better than the Cubs." I agreed wholeheartedly. But count me on board with "if they're going to be bad, I want them to be really bad" mindset. I want Ricketts to clean house.
  18. Yeah, but now you have us all wondering how this relates to George Bush.
  19. Because if he was hitting reasonably well in Daytona instead, he'd still be ahead of Jackson because of the age difference at the same level. We'll never know, and that's why you scale it that way. But he's not hitting reasonably well at Daytona. I suspect you're mixing up Daytona and Tennessee, but if not: .291/.350/.445/.795 That's definitely reasonably well. He's not at Daytona. So what's your point? His time at Daytona doesn't count? He's a year younger and has already performed well at the level Jackson is currently at (as he has at every level so far after some time to adjust). I definitely like Jackson more and think he has a much better shot at being a productive major leaguer but the argument for Vitters is pretty reasonable.
  20. Haven't the Mets had similar teams?

  22. I completely understand thinking Colvin won't make it as an everyday starter. But if the improvements from 08 to 09 and from 09 to this year really do show that he can be a legit major leaguer, isn't this the perfect year to find out? What's the worst that can happen? We end the season 20 games out instead of 15? And if he does manage to pan out, we have a cheap, solid RF with more money to spend elsewhere.
  23. Are you sure you're thinking of the right Chipper Jones?
  24. Pay heed to things like some players have long term success and some don't? I haven't been clamoring for Colvin to do anything, but what could playing him full time possibly hurt? You either find out if he's truly figured things out and will a productive major leaguer or he ends up falling apart and a crappy team becomes slightly crappier.
  25. They're seriously demoting Russell because of one bad outing? I really just want to see Ricketts completely gut this organization after (or during) the season.
